Hello, all! For those that don't know me, I'm Virg. I moderate things. I'm also in charge of the newly founded Discussion Leader group and I had an idea sprout in my head not too long ago.

Every individual character board is quite different and many are truly contrasting. Seeing as how I'm tasked with encouraging discussion and help throughout the boards, I thought that maybe encouraging some similar layouts on each board would help new people (or board hermits) that eventually strolled into other boards. Not that they would get lost, but just that it would be easier and the process alone would be gratifying.

So with that, I'm here for a proposition (not of that kind!): a reformatting and update of the character guide, if it needs one. I see a lot of good threads...though I have a feeling some are out of date. But I digress.

So for those of you that don't want to read: I would like to try to get every character board to clean up and organize their character board guides/stickies. Some are fine as is. Others...not so much. I'm asking this for a shot of dialogue and cross communication throughout the boards as well as making the stickies less cluttersome.

So, what do you guys say? This is all voluntary. Just wanted to try to spruce the boards up a bit. If you have any opinions or questions, I'd be happy to hear them :)

Are you saying you will make a link guide? In what way can you make a better guide than Nintejoes, I mean we have a pro photograph for the picture, and the guide is stupidous in depth, so in depth that very few links are up there playing like that. I dunno what to say, actually the only thing that comes to my mind is, what exactly can you make better?

Well, I'm not physically writing the guides: I'm here to help any revamping/new ideas you guys want to implement in terms of important threads or formerly important threads.

Sadly, Nintenjoes guide still cover just about everything we know. its well written and LinkSpecialist have taken those awesome pictures. Actually I cant think of any link that actually have mastered all stuff in that guide. Its so much ahead of links metagame in reality.

Actually I dunno what should be added in. We have only found a few highly situational (actually sucky is a better word) ATs since that guide were written. And we havent found much considering his general playstyle. We are still far away from finished with his match ups and stage discussions.

Well, if you guys want any help in bringing another board over to discuss the match up, I can pull whatever strings I can to get the discussion going.

I wish the stage-match up list would be finished, It looks like it died stage 24.
Also maybe finishing the Character match up charts as well. I saw one on the TL boards similar to Kirin's that listed from the hardest to easiest matches with %,Advantadges,disadvantages,counter-pick, and the description on how to win listed(if possible :( - Meta Knight + Rainbow Cruise)

What do other people think about Zane's suggestion?
We do have a Matchup Discussion, a Stage Strat Discussion and a Metagame Discussion. Or wel, not exactly here on SWF, but still there are a lot of work being done sadly there arent that many good links out there and even less that contributes, so its slowpaced. There arent really crawling with link players since it is a none-good campy character that has a steep learning curve. Thats actually our main problem, we have little to no contributors (and Im not talking only SWF).

Isn't that sorta Link's problem altogether? not enough use him and those that do can only do so much alone.
BTW I was saying I wished the stage strat board was finished, I think it died.

Yes, sadly it is his main problem at the moment. The learning curve is to steep and he is at the same time too bad of a character to play at higher levels for anyone to want to use him. But yup you are so correct.

I dunno, we have a very in depth stage discussion, the reason we gave up the old one was cause we wanted a more accurate more helpful one. When it comes to CPs and Bans it often is better to try judge in your own weaknesses and strengths than blindly follow a list. A general tip though is to learn Rainbow cruise, Melee Yoshis Island, Norfair and Luigis Mansion and all the neutrals really well or something noone else plays ever, but for a guide on how to play at these stages you might have to wait longer than you want.

Also I wonder which one you mean cause if you mean blu_links it already have gone through all legal stages I think.

Oh, the only one I saw was on susa's list of important threads for newbies. My bad, I was hoping for all the stages discussed however, now I remember, barely 24 are used anyway.
What about a discussion on Link's best partner ups? I think It'd be cool. Tell how to assist, when to attack, and who works well with Link.

Maybe I could ask a few other character boards to come over and help with the match up discussion?
You could try, but this board is kinda dead. You could tell them to help out at that other place, where the matchup discussion is alive and well, but

1. We've been told explicitly by the moderators in many occasions that we are not allowed to tell other character boards that we would like their input (even for a thread held here at SWF), and

2. I think we're supposed to refer to that other location only in hushed tones and behind curtains or something.

Hmmm...I'll have to investigate point 1. I've helped several boards come over and talk match ups with other boards.

Well, for one...the Link Video Archive is no longer maintained and is still stickied.

I mean, people still post videos; but they aren't added.

I could, but the question is if anyone would submit videos to be added. Only a select few Link mains visit these boards, (I am sure you are aware that the rest are over at AiB) and I personally wouldn't like to go hunting around trying to find videos.

I'd do it if that is what needs to be done, though.

A some other boards have said, it may be best to have a Link Boards Account that only the mod and trusted updaters could login to so that you can all update the threads. This hasn't been finalized yet so just hold on, but it may be a possibility.

Ah, okay. We'll wait on that then, although it's fine by me if marsulas does it.

I really can't think of anything else.

This is odd for me as well, I've done this multiple times, even on occasions for the Lucario boards and haven't been told not to do such.

Ryu and Virg, it's because the Link mains over at AiB were coming over to character boards here and asking for discussion, and the mods must of caught on and told them not to. The only reason is because the character boards at AiB (with the exception of Link boards) absolutely suck, and they know SWF character boards hold much more info/that's where most if not all the good players are.

That's pretty petty.
