Don’t you love it when updates in a row are in common? We had 2 days of Final smashes a couple of weeks ago, now we have a couple of Bowser-related entries. Yesterday we had Bowser, and if you couldn’t guess from the title of todays post, today we’re about Bowser’s Final Smash: Giga Bowser!

Not much I can say that isn’t obvious from the pictures Sakurai’s provided. Bowser’s Final Smash lets him transform into Giga Bowser, while your opponents, if smart, get the heck away from him. Pretty hard considering he takes up most of the stage.

Just like in Melee, Bowser takes a really strong attack to stop him. Sakurai says, “What, you think just because he’s huge, you can needle him with lots of little attacks and keep him off balance? Heh heh… Yeah, you keep thinking that.”

“You can only be Giga Bowser for a short time, though, so you’d better take your enemies out while you can. Bear in mind, too, that while escaping from Giga Bowser, fighters might decide it’s a good strategy to pick off the stragglers in his wake…”

Isn’t this a bit too unserious? A character who’s final smash is that he takes up half the stage and just owns everything for a short while, how funny is that?

At least this will make up for his potential sucking.

Hell, I’d play as Bowser on a constant basis just to be Giga Bowser once in a while.

I can see it now, on the Nintendo boards. There were actually some people who were hoping this was Bowser’s final smash. Imagine the shock on the dissenter’s faces.

Does this mean Giga Bowser gets replaced as an Extra Boss though? :(

Spenat: Isn’t a wave of fire covering the stage a bit much too? How about trapping people in the triforce then slashing away at them? How about turning into a ball of electricity and zooming around the stage at high speed ramming people? All final Smashes are rather devestating, just like they’re suposed to be.

Imagine this- Giant Melee [if in brawl], all players have super mushrooms, and all players are Giga Bowser. Man that would be cool.

ummm…..i dunno if i like it. i mean, it has nothing to do with Bowser, its just a monster from melee. All the other smashes so far have been personal to the charecter. Also, like pikachu, you have to actually contoll him. Does this mean you have to controll Links and Marios? That being said,

But it IS Bowser…

He became Giga in Melee and now he becomes Giga in Brawl.
If any Final Smash doesn’t make sense it would be Link’s (b/c he never did that) and Mario’s (never to that degree of power).

But they’re still awesome moves.

That’s flippin’ sweet!!!

Didn’t the normal Bowser replace Ness in the Japanese version of the original Super Smash Bros.? My friends are telling me this is true, and I go to a lot of SSB Classic websites… That apparently have been translanted to English. But then are things that don’t add up… Does anyone know the truth about this???

I don’t know. But Giga Bowser looks awesome. Still he’ll be no match when I use Pit’s Final Smash. Oh wait he’s invincible…

RC Hammer: Bowser was never in any version of Smash 64 and both were in all versions of melee.

@RC Hammer: If my memory holds, Bowser and Peach were originally to be implemented into Super Smash Bros., but due to developmental constraints they had to wait until Melee. Believe it or not, Smash Bros. was not popular at Nintendo during its development, and it was originally intended to be a Japan-only regional release. That, of course, changed when the game exploded in popularity.

As for Giga Bowser, I withdraw my complaints from yesterday: Bowser’s new design is clearly implemented to contrast more starkly with the intimidating Giga Bowser. This seems like something Sakurai and the other designers of Smash have wanted to implement for a while, as word on the street puts Giga Bowser as an initial playable character that was scrapped before the product went gold.

Also, @METROID MAN: At the finale of Paper Mario, Bowser is struck by a bolt of lightning, making him larger and more powerful. Although he does not mutate into Giga Bowser in this title, this bears a striking resemblance to his transformation in Melee, where his defeated trophy is struck by a bolt of lightning and he becomes Giga Bowser. So its not as original to Brawl and Smash as you may think.

I suddenly want to see Giga Bowser on Giant Melee with a Super Mushroom. Anyone know where I can find a screenshot (from Melee?)

I’m… extremely happy with this final smash. It’ll definitely make me start using Bowser more. Though I hope Giga Bowser is still a boss in one of the 1P modes.

Man, that second screenshot (in this blog, not smashbros.com) is freakin’ insane! He looks so wickedly evil!

lol falco****er. maybe it is fair. they changed it from fire to whatever element the charge shot is. maybe. that’d be cool if she can aim it though.

I doubt he’s “invincible”. It’s probably like Melee. In that game, Giga Bowser did not flinch at all when his damage was below 100% or something. No frames to show being hit, not even for a millisecond. This Giga Bowser might be the same way; he won’t flinch before light attacks but can still be KO’d from a combination of heavy blows and large damage.

It the second screen shot, It appears to me that Mario is doing an air dodge. That’s comforting to know.

I noticed seomthing interesting.

Normal Bowser’s shell doesn’t appear to “bend” with his back anymore. This could make his movements a bit more realistic, but it might also impact his mobility even more… But Giga Bowser’s shell seems to still move with his back though, so that’s good for him.

This is pretty sweet. I to would like to see giga bowser in giant melee with a mega mushroom. He would become the stage.
