Giant D.K/ Metal Mario Tier Placement

We've all messed around with the two and I'm just curious about where you would put the two on the tier list. Metal Mario has pretty low knockback and it's hard to get him off the stage, but when you do he has bad recovery. It's easy to tech-chase him. Giant D.K doesn't even get hit stun for a lot of attacks (especially drill attacks), although once he's off the stage it's easy to gimp him (like normal D.K.). I would think Metal mario would be fairly low on the tier list, and Giant D.K might deserve a decent placement.

Master hand and the polygon characters don't really apply due to the polygon characters being terrible without all of the moves, and Master hand being so unique.

Metal Mario's recovery actually isn't bad, it's just a matter of timing it better than the dumb CPU, who drops a metre or two before using Up-B (also tornado is almost useless).

It's decent (and pretty quick) vertical recovery but doesn't do much horizontal. If there was a character modifier code for training mode (which would probably be easy to make just no one ever bothered) I'd try his tornado in 1/4th speed, or in TAS with Mupen (although I'm not sure how to use codes in Mupen).

And kirby is counterpick,7 utilts + nair = 0 to death ko

Then again he doesn't need good vertical recovery, nothing knocks him far off the stage, just next to it

Seeing how many people play on the project 64 they have very easy access to Metal Mario and Giant DK, I believe they diverse a placement on the tier list or at least an unofficial one. Please hear me out, I would like to have the fighting polygons on the tier list even we all know well they will make up the complete bottom tier but I am curious to see Which character is the best with out there B moves (all of them being clones and all). I do agree with andrewajt62 on the opinion that master hand should not be included in there tier list do to the aforementioned uniqueness though I am still a little sore on how badly they nerfed him from the original to melee. Thanks for listening.

Pikachu and Kirby would be some of the best polygons. Yoshi would also be good.

Pikachu and Kirby polygon might actually be mid tier lol

wrong...pika becomes average without his grab and comeback...he cant combo the characters going away from the stage, or edgeguard being far of the stage after a grab...wich where one of hese huge advantages...


you are forgeting about fox his only weaknes: his up, if we take up B to all characters he wouldnt had that weaknws

fox is WAY better at combing than pika...pika is better just for his hilarius comeback....there are a lot of good foxes that dont even use grab because he is very good at presuring and stabing the shield at safe distances, so the lack of it wouldnt be a problem...

kirby, jiglypuff and yoshi would be really high too at the polygon tier list...because their comeback would be really good in comparision with the rest of the characters

i think yoshi´s polygon would still have a better match up than normal samus and normal link :p....down b, and grab are important things to sacrify....the egg is good but you could live without it...and neutral b is almost useless

we could make a polygon match up and from that a polygon tier list...it would be fun :)...maybe some polygon turnys could help :p

then about metal mario and giant dk....i dont like to play with them so i wouldnt know...but alpha used to practice a litle with metal mario...and he said it was even better than normal mario...his sh and first jum are shorter, and he falls really fast...wich is better to combo at low%....he is almost imposible to combo at low % (yeah except kirbys uptitl chain).

he is a litle easy to gimp in some situacions...but i think that avoiding kirby he would do better than mario in the match-up chart. he is just more difficult to use, because its wierd he has a very unique weight and aerial speed...so if you are not used to...you are crapp.

G.dk is just a ****ing beast...he is the actual king kong...but again..it would be interesting to evaluate these chars into the real match up chart

Metal mario isnt very good i think. About giant DK, im not sure, his size has several advantages and disadvantages at the same time...

Edit: DK Polygon is the worst char ever. LOL no grabs, no giant punch, and no up+b, what does he have left?

Are polygon hitboxes and hurtboxes the same size as their real character counterparts?
i used to play a lot with polygons to practice combos; and i think they are, but sometimes it seems they are a litle heavier and maybe a litle stronger, but im not sure... the thing with polygon is that you can just play with two buttons... R and Z :p...


and yeah DK sucks...fox with no lasers is still an unstopeable combo wachine....uair, fair, nair, bair, dair, utilt, dtil, tilt, jab....normal and easy combo conectors at low and high %....i think that normal fox without the laser would still be the second best character in the game

Well in a world of just polygons I could see polygon fox possibly being the second best character in the game but In a world of the polygons+the original characters +Giant DK+ Metal Mario I highly doubt that he would be the second best character in the game, but I would love to see a match up chart with all of the polygons, Giant dk, Metal Mario, and finally the original characters.

Edit: I just realized that with all the polygons and Giant dk and metal Mario that equals a total of 26 characters that is the same as melee. (I know I am stating the obvious but I thought that was a cool mishap.)

With polygon only, Kirby is the best character in the game, Kirby's up-tilt is the second best character in the game. Removing bombs, boomerangs, fireballs (YUM!!), eggs, lazers, and all other projectiles, not much beats up-tilt.

What he said, also since Polygon-Pikachu would not be able to recover as well also since no characters have an up B.

Giant DK is still much heavier than normal DK so it it still easy to combo. F-throw to giant punch will instantly kill most characters and i think Down b to B also works as giant DK. Giant DK is top tier, Lasers have no effect so in essence Giant DK counters Fox. the only bad matchup is kirby and possibly Pikachu and possibly Falcon. Just think of Giant DK's grab range, who cares about his other moves and his size.

Metal mario is upper mid, probably just below normal mario due to harder to do combos and succeptability to throws.

his recovery is kinda like a better version of Link's, not nearly as good as Mario's though.

It's interesting, if you go choose master hand as your character with codes in break the target/BTP he is like a normal character who can jump and double jump quite high. Getting to 0 hp from lava burners or bumpers freezes the game. If you fall off into off screen he'll fall forever. He can complete a few platform stages and no target stages (since he cant attack), and if you do, it'll save. Here's the code if anyone is wondering:
