So, obviously, it's a lot worse than it was in melee. No DCDS, less reach, less damage, less (none) comboing out of downthrow. But I'm loyal to learning the best of every single move sheik has to offer so I want to learn this one. In this thread I want people to share their best experiences with downsmash and help me define what breakdancing is still the best tool for.

So far it seems like it's a decent trap for someone to roll in to if you're expecting a roll in your direction since the hitbox is so long. Most downsmashes serve as a roll-catcher and the breakdance is less strong and far-reaching than that of most characters, but the hitbox lingers more and is more consistent throughout than dsmashes which attack front then back, which can be nice. I have a vague sense I've used it in other situations when I needed it to be dangerous to be right on top of me but wasn't sure exactly when and where they were going to be, and scored good hits with it.

How about you guys?

Is a good spotdodge punish, better at trapping landings (although super easy now anyway) than usmash because side hit usmash is weak sauce. You basically use it as a high damage punish if they are above easy combo percents and you don't want to risk a missed read off a throw.

Everyone has practically said all the move can do in 4 posts lmfaooo.

I've enjoyed how tighter hit boxes are in the game so, for example, if I am crouching and go into dsmash, I can sometimes dodge certain projectiles and jabs and punish accordingly.

It's stupid funny how low Sheik can get to the ground.

Isn't the side of a usmash still stronger than any dsmash?

Do we still have the ability to jab -> Dsmash?
As far as I can tell, not to any different extent than we can with side smash.

I think dsmash is better damage since it tends to hit twice? Side hit usmash is just 13% damage.

Isn't dsmash 3+6=9 total?

Dsmash: 3+6
Fsmash: 5+8
Usmash: 11 or 15 (or in lucky situations, both)

-Pretty- sure.

But Usmash is also a great kill move if you can land a tipper, and id rather not stale it for a non-stellar punish. Dssmash IMO is mostly there as a damage racker if i must be used.

Does staleness cause knockback to decrease as well as damage?

Yes.

Btw Dsmash can also be used to catch people in ledge regrab vulnerability. I'm not sure if it works for every character but some hits of Dsmash seem to reach below the ledge, which is great as it'll suck them in.
