Alright Ladies & Gentlemen :),

With the Japanese version of Smash 4 3DS coming out this Friday, my question is... Will you get the game early, by getting the Japanese version or do you have the patients to wait for US version?

For me, I'll wait for the US version. Mainly because it wouldn't feel right (Plus, I'm getting the digital download of it so... :ohwell:).

Now it's time to hear from you guys.

(Hopefully there's not a similar thread like this one.)

Waiting 20 more days doesn't hurt, especially for Europeans like me who got Brawl 5 months after Japan.

Plus, I prefer having the game on a language I can understand well and I'm more familiar with the characters' English names.

If I had a Japanese 3DS I'd probably just get that version rather than wait. But I don't, so I'm not paying an extra $200+ just to not wait 3 weeks.

I'd love to get the Japanese version but I don't have a Japanese 3DS. (And don't want to mess around with softmodding mine to play Region Free)

Also, since I live in the US, I imagine the online will be smoother with other US residents, and I'm interested in playing online.

So while I'd love to get the Japanese version, I'm content with waiting the extra 3 weeks and watching videos and all I the unveils via YouTube.

I will add though that I hope the Wii U version has a World Wide release date.

@Frostwraith After the US version of Smash 4 3DS comes out, can you lock this thread? Because, it really shouldn't matter what version of the game you buy once 10/3 comes.

It's 20 days! If you're gonna get a version of Smash, in a language that you don't understand.. just because it comes 20 days before everywhere else.. I feel rather sorry for you ^^ We're all hyped like hell, but it's better than with brawl. 5 Damn months!
It's a fighting game, not a JRPG. It takes like 2 minutes to learn the menus. Calm down.

It's still silly to be that impatient. If you already have a 3DS and don't mind spending more money for something you could get cheaper by waiting with everyone else, then obviously it makes sense to go for it.

But people who go out and buy a Japanese 3DS and the game solely because they can't wait 20 days are silly.

To each their own though.

I am waiting because I really wanna know how the characters feel and if they are bad or not. (Yes I know it is only 21 days to test characters and early metagame) Lucina and Rosalina please be good!

I don't have the money to buy a Japanese 3DS and a Japanese copy of the game. Plus, waiting three weeks is not a big deal. It is ;-:

I'd rather wait 20 days than spend £££s on the same console and a new game when you can use that money to buy other great titles to hold you over :/

If there are bugs or kinks to be worked out then I'd rather wait.

No, all/most are buying both, i'm holding out for the version that will poop all over the previous.
Sigh, there always has to be this type of guy in every thread. They are both the SAME game but it depends if you want portability or HD. IMO Portable smash>HD smash

I don't bring a portable gaming device with me everywhere I go because when I leave my house I don't intend to play something that I already have waiting for me back at home.

I can see why someone that sits on buses all day(due to having to commute to a job) would want the 3ds version.
And I can also see why a kid would want one in the backseat of a car during being dropped off to their separated parents' houses on weekends.

Paying for a 3DS and a Capture Card along with Shipping + Game would be to much for me since I just got a capture card. I can wait for Smash 4, 20 days doesn't hurt.

I would get the Japanese version, as it would probably help with my Japanese, but I don't own a Japan-region 3DS.
Plus, I don't know how comfortable I'd feel with the majority of the text being in Japanese lol

True, but why did you have to call the 3ds version out. if anything, more people own 3ds's and it will sell more copies.

The Wii U version is going to be a console saver, the 3ds one is going to be sakurai using you guys as beta testers, at a fee.

It's their money. They can do what they want. No one asked you your opinions on how they spend their money.

If the 3DS wasn't region locked (glares at Nintendo for their most obvious remaining bad habit) I'd totally have gotten the Japanese version (at least if people can confirm cross-region local multiplayer). But, since it IS locked, I'm gonna chill and wait for the US version, since I can't afford to import a J3DS.

I think that region locking is really really dumb, and so is the reasoning for doing so; "Attempting to secure more sales within that region"--what the ****? That does not work in practice.

Take a game like Jump Super Stars for example, a game that only was released in japan, but had a huge cult following and became popular amongst some foreign consumers. Those foreign consumers netted Nintendo additional revenue, as well as other obscure games that some players may have wanted.

Now with smash, the average consumer will not know when the Japanese version is going to release, those that will know are those of us who are devoted fans to the franchise. Knowing that, we are more than willing to buy a Japanese version of the game to play as well as an American / European version when it finally releases. Since we are so small, our impact on the market won't be enough to affect the American / European consumer base, but in the end they will still gain a greater profit. So why is this region lock a thing? Greed. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / Nintendo 3DS is a huge money grab by Nintendo, with the release of Amiibo, GC Adaptor, GC Controllers, a new 3DS system, they are trying to milk this for what it's worth. I bet Nintendo expected people to even try and buy the new 3DS from japan and a Japanese copy of smash just to make more money, when they could have just as easily enabled circle pad function for the game since it works in the exact same way.

If out of region sales were such an issue why can't Nintendo just push for releasing their games simultaneously world wide, especially for their AAA titles that clearly attract world wide attention. This region lock **** feels like an excuse to pick on the minority again.

While I generally agree, it's also quite possibly because of licensing and whatnot. For instance, re-releasing Earthbound in America took years. While they could easily just make things like that not show up in the given region's eShop, making them incompatible by a software check (it's not even a hardware-based restriction any more) is just annoying to the fans willing to go an extra mile. That extra mile has to become an extra marathon, which most aren't financially able to manage (importing just a game is SO much cheaper than importing the system as well, and also doesn't lead to nearly as many complications as playing an entire system in an unfamiliar language).

Or you could just be even more patient and get the superior version on Wii U.
Aww.. How cute how you think your actually right! I almost feel so sad for you because your so wrong I'm almost crying!
Almost. Can't wait till Wii U version comes out. I wonder how hard I'll laugh my ass off when we all know you were wrong and that the 3ds version sold alot better. Hope I don't break something =)

License issues are understandable. However, something as simple allowing the circle pad to be compatible with smash feels like an act of deliberation. I mean, it really wouldn't hurt the sales of the new 3DS given that it offers so much more. The fact that it offers all the functionality of the circle pad in a smaller package is enough to sell the system, as most people like sleek and compact things even if they are virtually the same. Apple has been exploiting this type of marketing for years

Wow. You don't need to be such a fanboy about personal preference. But if it's any consolation, Sakurai said that the 3DS version is essentially a beta for the Wii U version. Take that as you will.

Also, more sells doesn't mean it's a superior game. Look at Call of Duty.

I was going to get the Japanese version, but instead, I found it preferable to purchase Destiny and Hyrule Warriors to help me wait and just play the game in English so that I can understand what it is that I am supposed to be doing in regards to unlockables and whatnot.
