EDIT: Typo in the thread topic, I meant "Ariel Down+A" spamming. -_- Oopsie doodles.
============================================================

Hey folks. Long time player of Smash Bros, new to the whole online Brawl community. I've gotten pretty good at playing Smash Brothers against common players, and even some pretty advanced players, but I've never played at the expert level, where people rely of broken and cheap tactics like infinites and obnoxious chain grabs and other such things, but that's not the point of this thread. All personal feelings aside on the ethical ambiguity of said tactics, I'm currently playing someone who I otherwise am pretty evenly matched with, if not mildly better than, but he always defeats me with one of these tactics. He hits one move out of nowhere, and before I know it I've gone from 0% damage to 60%+ before I regain control of my character. The thing is, I know it's coming. I can always predict by his bashfulness and by his positioning when he's getting ready to start doing them. I just can't stop him. By the end of his mad campaign, he's caused me 60+% damage! From 0%! Enough that, if he hits me ONCE with this cheap combo, he can potentially take me from 0% to one good hit away from death. In a Ganondorf vs Ganondorf match, you can't take 60% at the drop of a hat and expect to win any matches.

The move in question is what he called a T-Storm. I don't know what the "technical" term for this garbage is, but it's where Ganondorf leaps around the screen like a frog spamming his ariel Down+A attack. I'm not going to even go into all of the strategies I've tried... I've been playing this guy for a week now and he hits this freaking move on me at least once or twice every match. In most matches, this move comprises the majority of his offense at close range when I am at lower levels. I can come up with no consistent way to counterattack him, as I do not know the intracicies of the attack and it's range. Half of the time his body is nowhere near me and imy Ganondorf will flop into the air, prime to take another one or two ariel down B attacks.

I'm sure that after people came up with this tactic, somebody else figured out how to lay the smackdown on it, so that is the knowledge I seek from you, my fellow Ganondorf players. Someone please tell me everything I need to know about the spamming of this attack and how what tactics I should employ to consistently overcome it.

Don't get hit. Grab him or Murder Choke, or just plain outrange him with moves like Usmash and Ftilt.

Or, spam it back! See what he does, and do it back to him when he tries it.

If you can actually see it coming, find out when he's vulnerable, and attack then.

The technical term for the thunderstorm is an auto-canceled down air. Basically, by doing the attack at a certain time, ganondorf will not suffer the normal resulting lag, and is able to attack as soon as he lands again. If someone can better explain how auto-canceling works, please do.

The best time to attack ganon is right after the feet fully extend and before he lands. it's a small window, but if you really do see it coming as you claim, then punishing it shouldn't be a problem.

However, you may want to just retreat when your opponent starts this and wait for the "storm to pass". They may stop when the see you retreating and choose to pursue instead.

Thunderstorming has a gigantic weakspot: you're vulnerable from the moment you finish the attack until you hit the ground. Enough to get a jab or dash attack or even an ftilt in. Also, if you're playing as Ganondorf, it's suggested that you learn this technique as well, as it is pretty much the most important one out there.
