I think sonic characters are more suited to smash and there's a ton of potentially extremely unique fighters to be found within the sonic universe. (Chaos, Emerl, Bean, etc) Also with a brawl sized roster you would get some of the cooler, obscure sonic characters like Fang the Sniper and frankly speaking Fang is the only reason I picked the sonic option in the first place.

Fire Emblem Roster with guest Link.

I played Sonic Battle. You can regularly play as sonic villains in games. You never play as Fire Emblem bad guys, even ones with cool animations (King of Bern), or just plain cool characters (Alvis). This would open up that chance.

Plus the weapons triangle in a fighting game would be interesting. I beat your spear with a sword. Troll win!.
