yeah, but like i said servers are cheap, so it really wouldnt be a burden for me to have a spare server running in the west for specific matches people might want to have.

i was thinking Virginia and Texas but ...everyone already knows why that is xD

Virginia acts a much better server for east coast and Euro as well...so its not only me Mr.Isaiah

I get 7 frames on LAN in galaxy, which is horrible.

So what are you talking about going to 3-5 with LAN dandan? lol
i was talking about your example if the server would be in chicago, you said west coasters will get 5-7 on exc, so i said you should switch to lan and get 3-5.

i would say nix has a point about euros, but i myself being from israel do not care, as i get too much anyhow. i would say it is not a big thing because if euros want to do teams with americans we can do them on wwl anyhow, and for 1v1s p2p is better.

Yes, except that you gotta have msn of anyone that you will want to play or go to server to find people so it will be always less practical and slow to get a game going on p2p. Servers are better if you want some quick games with random people

wait a sec, you mean going to a server and making a game is faster than going to a server and asking for p2p, in my book it takes the same time/effort.

Moving to Chicago would result in not any frame increase for europeans assuming LAN play, maybe one at most for those far east.

That being said, if the move were to happen (which it looks like it might), I would need the help of the people here to play on LAN from the getgo. Connections will be better and the belief that the server won't be able to handle it is simply not true (from what I've seen).

saying it will not result in increase is false, europeans are mainly routed to the us via the cross atlantic optic fiber that runs from the uk to new york. thus europeans will get the least frames to new york and the surrounding area.
the extra ms it will take to get from ny to chicago will be added, so if it is 20-30 ms it will add a frame or two at least.

Nixxon had tested his ping - 156 in Galaxy, and 165 in Chicago. 20 ms more would not result in an increase if the shift from exc to LAN is made.

I encourage everyone to try pining here:

72.51.60.2

which is one of team fortress servers the company runs in Chicago (doesn't work with kaillera, use 'ping 72.51.60.2' command in windows cmd.exe) and see what the ping is compared to galaxy.

for me it adds about 20-30 ms which is what i expected to be added from ny to chicago.

......

1) join a server - join game
2) join a server - ask for someone to p2p - wait 30 seconds to 5 minutes for someone to reply - open a chat - give IP or receive IP - open a second PJ - host a game or write IP

also, what about 4 player matches

server and p2p both have advantages and disadvantages to me

1)join a server - play on server - get 7-10 frames on lan.
2)join a server - search for p2p (usually can weed out a log of beginners who do not know how to p2p) - get 5-6 frames.

and lol about opening a chat and another pj as being taxing, come one. i agree that you can sometimes wait until someone p2ps, but being to lazy to open a chat and another pj...

server is still faster to get a game going. If I had like 3 frames on galaxy i would rarely ever p2p.

Yes I know you usually get more delay than p2p, thats why i said that both have advantages and disadvantages.

you have over 150 on galaxy, that means 10 frames, that is one serious disadvantage.

I would prefer it if the server didn't move, but that's just me being selfish. ;)

I'd be okay with a chicago server, it would make teams more enjoyable for west coasters! My ping would probably be around the same anyway.

Just so everyone knows, a Chicago server has been purchased for a month and will go up on a few days. It will act as a test server until we can confirm that the situation is better in Chicago than New York. The NY server will stay up for atleast another month. I will post the Chicago IP when it is ready.

Yeah-eah!

And seriously, LAN from the get-go guys. I'm gonna be all about it. When the nubs finally show up, if they see a bunch of people playing on LAN, lightbulbs will go off in their heads.

on european servers we play only on lan and we can go teams for a long long time without a ds.
there was a thing about the emulinker sf server thinking you dsed even though you have not on lan, like it would say someone is out of sync even when he is not then it will ds the game, but that is server side and might have been fixed by agent/firo and whatnot.

Does LAN desync more with teams or is that just a myth?
According to our glorious techleader Firo, LAN sends twice as many packets, and therefore desynchs around twice as often :(

Still, I think it's a fair trade for less delay. Honestly, two frames fewer? **** is off the hizook. A DS is inconvenient, but like a minute max and you're back to playing.

With me, on average, LAN desynchs maybe once every 4-5 games, which is very bearable.

will this new server lag less than it does right now?
Since packets are being dropped like mad going to new york, the hopefully the path our connections take to chicago will be carried better so to speak. At least I think thats the general plan. xD In english: Yes most likely there will be less lag.

though dropped packets do not affect lag, they affect dses.
as kaillera uses udp and does not use confirmations and the such.

Who ever hosted Galaxy in Chicago pulled a ***** move on us New Yorkers. Now I get 4 frames instead of 2 or 3, and it feels wierd playing at 4 frames.....I'm tight ._______.

Bad for you NY'ers, but better for the scene as a whole. You had it too good before, now I have it too good and a bunch of people have just the right amount of good.

Wow, I knew some east coasters would complain but I never thought it would be this much.

Grow some ****ing balls and man up you *****es.

Waah you don't have 3 less frames than people not on east coast! Instead you'd rather be selfish pricks and have the best for yourself. Learn to deal with your 4/5 frames. West coasters have been playing with 7/9 frames this entire time.

This sounds a lot like those rich republicans that go ape**** when obama raises taxes on the rich by 3% and whatnot.

^^That's a pretty simplistic view of the tax cut situation, Fire. I'm not saying I agree with the bush cuts, but there's a little more to it than that.
