Listing a few other servers.

69.10.53.254:27888

I think Boomfan found this server a short while ago (teams on steam). I get the exact or somewhat lower ping than Galaxy and it seems to have a really good connection

74.208.199.117:27888
On this server I get 45 fps, which means it must be midwest or something similar.

Nah, two servers is a terrible idea, Glowy. Trust us old hands who remember the Universe 64 server or whatever it was.

I like Chicago a lot. Right there in the middle; gets some west coast action in on it.

There's no one in that god**** thing. I swear I've gone on at every conceivable time of day and night and never found a single person to show off my 15-frame fox to.

Totally in support of galaxy move to Chicago

I, in the midwest, can get 3-5 frames on east coast servers, so they should be fine, they can play on LAN or spoof if they cant stand 5

west coast, and people in boom's area (i assume there are more?) will be able to play at 5 frames too, which will be nice for the all-to-frequent times of day, including weekends, where the server is almost empty

I get 9 on galaxy exc right now

so I only do p2p, unless I go "3 more for teams at <IP>" but people rarely come. haven't done that in a while

looks like SURRI is going to get 3000 posts

Galaxy in Chicago helps:
western states(pacific/mountain), midwest, south, western canada, mexico

Galaxy in Chicago hurts:
Surri-Sama

If Galaxy moves to Chicago and there are EC Exc players wanting the lowest frame play possible, LAN and p2p play will increase.

In case anyone forgot what North America looks like

Moving Galaxy to Chicago (shown in red on the map) is the best move

Definition of helps:
letting someone 7 frames and above play on 5 or less

Definition of hurts:
making someone 5 frames and below play on 7 or more

7 frames and above is what hurts people. Thus, the east coast is not being hurt. Having Galaxy move to Chicago helps more people than it hurts.

However, the server moving to Chicago would be a bad idea if the majority of the people it's supposed to help cannot get at least 66 ping, the highest ping possible for 5 frames Exc unless I'm mistaken.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Chicago server would be even better if it does well in supporting LAN play.

If there's a good Chicago server that let's me play LAN, I would get 4 frames. What does that say about the amount of frames the East Coast would get on LAN? Sounds like 3 and below, the amount of frames already played by the East Coast in the current Galaxy.

Moving it to Texas doesn't help enough people because people in Canada like BOOM might get 7 there. That would be even worse for you.

my ping is really random for texas servers, it's like the routing changes there every few hours for me, I range about 70-110 in texas servers.

Chicago is 56 ping for me ^^

Chicago might, in the long run, pull in more people from the west... you know, people who can't get good delay as it is (lol @ "good" delay.)

From what I've seen, Chicago helps more people than it hurts. Is it on or should we take it to the Backroom (LolBackroom)?

The east coasters can even stick around in WWL if they reaaaaaaally need to play a match with other east coasters. Chicago would just be the Go-to.

Moving from NY to chicago is a complete ERROR:

1) If you only run ONE server, place it on the most populated areas... So its fine in NY.

2) If you do want a good solution, run TWO servers as one server is obviously not enough for the whole USA, especially for WC.

3) If it ain't broken and it works, dont fix it. NY has always been a good place with a lot of population therefore the most people can play and get a very low ping

Chicago is A LOT smaller than NY and has less big cities near it, like NY with philadelphia, washington, boston...

It doesn't matter how many big cities are close. The only thing that matters in this discussion is the amount of frames players would get in Chicago or any server.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right now, in Galaxy, I counted 18 players between 35 and 66 ping, on 5 frames Exc (though some on good). About 11 players counted between 0 and 31 ping, on 3 frames Exc (though some on LAN)

Assuming those 18 5 frame Exc players are all from the East Coast, there's no way many of them will get more than 5 frames in Chicago, unless East Coast has horrible internet. So there's a high chance these 18 players would be playing with the same frames.

As for the 10 players on 3 frames Exc, they could potentially have to play on 5 frames in Chicago. However, west coast will be able to go from 7-9 frames to potentially 5-7 frames Exc and midwest players could go from 5 frames to 3 Exc.

Therefore, players who go from 3 frames to 5 would be offset by the amount of midwest players going from 5 frames to 3 and the amount of west coast players going from 7-9 frames to 5-7, and a lot of the players' frames would be unchanged as noted above. There would be a much fairer distribution of delay.

Since this is isn't going to solve it self...(and i know im on the losing end of this one D: ) i'll just point out the fact that i am willing to host a server myself...i have the financial situation to do it...just need the support to get it going i suppose lol

what would be the two best server locations to have in conjunction with each other (so that the most people all over NA can get > or = 5 frames on EXC)?

The problem is the ping paths, I'm in michigan and I normally get 27-31 ping to ny at all times. But as of now I'm getting jacked up ping (in upwards to 50 or 60 sometimes) to NY, Virginia and most of the east unless its through p2p.

So what I'm saying is, unlike the old days, you can't really judge distance by ping size anymore. Something is happening to the packets before they reach the server that none of us can prevent. So in moving it to chicago we're hoping that it'll evenly distribute fair paths to everyone, west coast, midwest, and east coast, and some of canada. Even mexican players will have more fair of a time.

and @ nixxon and kuz, stop butthurting because its moving further from you. Nixxxon you never play on NY servers neway from what I seen, and at the delay you're @ its already unplayable neway, and @ kuz directly, no johns son. You'll still have 1(3 frames) or better. XD

The point is to make it fairer for players further off from the server who are in contending ranges. This doesn't include euro players (sorry kiddos you have your own servers). East coast and around that area will be able to perform in teams and ffas a hell of a lot better with the frame difference they get. Any frame delay is gay really but hell 5 frames is better than 7-9.

imo everyone should also just switch to lan, then the discussion won't be from 7-9 to 5-7 but to 3-5.

What about Europe.

Even if its in the US, Europeans have the right to play there dont you think? With the server in NY,western europeans still can kinda play but its pretty much on the "playable" limit. I know we have an online community and stuff but some people enjoy entering a server with a lot of ssb games going on. And our euro servers are empty :/
Having said this, add that the new york area is the most populated and moving to chicago will affect all that big popluation, so thats why there should really be a 2nd server for the west coast + mexico and stuff. I think the whole thing is just too much for a single server. Our community deserves more than just 1 big server.

I get 7 frames on LAN in galaxy, which is horrible.

So what are you talking about going to 3-5 with LAN dandan? lol

How much would it cost to get a server in a good midwest position and test out the pings?

I dunno where these servers are but I get the ideal non-west coast ping there

74.208.145.9:27888
74.208.199.117:27888

5 frames Exc on both, and 4 frame on LAN if they have good LAN support

What I do know is that there's no point in paying for a server that won't have a lot of ssb players playing

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Europe is a whole different continent; you guys should take care of yourselves like South America and Japan. You say your euro servers are empty NixxxoN, so you want to take away better frame play from the west side of North America for your nonexistent players in your empty servers?

Quick check, anyone else having trouble connecting to ANY servers atm? Checking if its just my client needing a new download.
Yeah mine freaked out for a bit just then....but it seems normal again now...

Moving it to Chicago would be great. NY is only a "good" place because it was there in the first place, there are much better locations than NY anyway (Florida, Virginia, Chicago, Penn etc)

Ever wonder why GW > Anti3d?
GW was just better then Anti when it came to pings/delay

Since this is isn't going to solve it self...(and i know im on the losing end of this one D: ) i'll just point out the fact that i am willing to host a server myself...i have the financial situation to do it...just need the support to get it going i suppose lol

I dont think we need to do this but if you were my vote would go for Chicago + Texas.
