Fsmash vs Ftilt

I was wondering about the possible advantages of using ftilt instead of fsmash for Marth. Obviously fsmash, while having more lag, is a stronger attack. But I think the way the paths differ is very important in beating other attacks in a match.

Fsmash goes from up-to-down while ftilt goes from down-to-up. Keeping mindful of the paths of each move may be helpful in challenging an opponent's approach. For example, if a Falcon approaches with nair at just the right height and spacing, it will hit you out of your fsmash, but an ftilt will hit from under him and beat out the nair when the fsmash could not due to its up-to-down path which puts your hitbox in the way of Falcon's nair.

Ftilt could also maybe be used to kill Falco's approach if he shoots high lasers.

ftilt comes out at frame 7. iirc it has a lower hitbox so it can be used to cover spacies that fwd b to sweetspot the ledge. although its techable so its a better idea to jab then imo.

Does ftilt hit lower than dtilt? I've been having this issue with spacies sweetspotting the ledge even past my dtilt and it sucks. If ftilt can cover it completely (I think you can side-b sweetspot jab also) then I may have to switch up my edgeguarding tactics.

Falco can't sweetspot. Jab, dtilt, ftilt, and (tip) fsmash will all hit, no matter what (though sometimes they clink, which is probably just my bad timing).

Fox can sweetspot, so I'm not sure which moves (if any) can hit him out of his side-B if he does so.

Not with side-B. Try it. Fox insta-grabs the ledge when you sweetspot, while Falco pushes into the ledge until his phantasm ends.
I actually gave it a try just to be sure, and Falco sweetspots exactly like Fox does, it's just a bit slower, but talking about Marth's edgeguarding it doesn't change anything, Marth can hit Falco/Fox sweetspotting with side-b just with DTilt or Neutral-B or Fair

^yep. the auto grab thing is only for fox at the starting part of the sideb. They both run into the stage until the animation is over, just like their upbs.

Jab hits below the ledge....I use that to edgueguard. I like Ftilt, Ftilt destroys doc's pills and a lot of approaches IMO, I am also pro at throwing out Fsmash, maybe I should turn that into a Ftilt, see where it gets me.

if spacies sweetspot the ledge with illusion its best to jab. any move that can knock you down is techable. it puts them under the stage where they have to up b
