To round out the week, we have ourselves another assist trophy, this time from Kirby’s universe. Knuckle Joe is a fighter of some calibur, in the Kirby anime being equal to Fighter Kirby.

His ability is rather straightforward, he lets lose a barrage of punches with his Vulcan Jab….

…then either finishes off with one of two moves: the Smash Punch, which seems to launch a projectile along the ground….

or uses Rising Break, a move that seems to cover a lot of vertical hight.

What a week. 2 Stages, an assist trophy, Yoshi returns and we learn of a new technique that could change the very physics of Smash Bros. Wonder what we’re going to be seeing next week?

I think they tried to make Knuckle Joe playable. Why would he have two specials? Remember, the site calls Assist Trophies the characters that didn’t quite make it.

I doubt Knuckle Joe was ever a playable character. First, if someone like homelessvagrant plays Kirby games and hasn’t heard of this character, chances are that this character isn’t all that important or well-known. Second, there is already a third character of high likelyness from Kirby’s universe, King Dedede will certainly make the cut over any other character from this franchise, and I doubt the Kirby games are big enough to get a fourth representative.

Nice update, though. Hopefully we don’t get a bad follow-up week after a good five days of updates. -crosses fingers-

Homeless - This guy’s name is Knuckle Joe, and he’s possibly one of the most useful characters in the kirby series games. He was in Kirby Super Star, a SNES game that’s kinda hard to find nowadays

As you see, when Kirby asborbs him, he gets this wonderful ability as ‘Kirby Fighter’. The guy goes all Bruce Lee and begins mowing down enemies and mini bosses like lawns XD

In Kirby Super Stars, you could play two players in the series along with Kirby. All they had to do was swallow a enemy with a ability, press select (or some other button) and he’s now a friend of Kirby’s for a two player to play (basically, the character looks exactly like the enemy, but in a different color). Like Kirby, he has a life line.

hmm knuckle joe ? I was hoping today’s update would be about sonic since today is sega’s deadline maybe he didn’t make it or maybe he’ll be in Monday’s update but only time will tell.

Animal: Assist Trophies are the characters that didn’t quite make it. I imagine the Dev Team was programming full-fledged movesets and animations for them, but gave up. Of course they were working on characters, lots of them. They just didn’t make all of the characters they started on playable.

Rockin, what I said was not with respect to any Kirby game out there, it was strictly in terms of Brawl. The only Kirby game I’ve ever played is “Kirby’s Dream Course” so I wouldn’t dare to pretend that I know about the series. However, it’s perfectly valid for me to say that I don’t believe he was ever playable in Brawl.

What I said was purely in reference to Sneaky’s post:

All I did was state that I disagreed. Games in the past have given a single character two special attacks to choose from (IE War of the Monsters), so saying a Nintendaid used to be playable because they have more than 1 special isn’t necessarily true, nor do I believe it to be.

Apparently Knuckle Joe wasn’t cool enough becuse he got replaced with the fighting mole. I think Knuckle joe lloks like a dork. I’m happy he didn’t make it into brawl. Better King Dedede’s in anyway.

Rhyme: I agree with you half way and with sneaky the other half. I believe that MOST of the characters were considered as smashers but probably were put aside because of moveset issues or popularity issues (would you really want to control that ugly thing). The attacks that they do have nothing to do with the characters supposed actuall moveset (think Samurai Gorroh). Plus Dr. Wright, do you think Sakurai considered him an actual character? Maybe.

homeless - I dunno about the popularity part. I mean, remember when Marth and Roy came to Melee?Nearly no one in North America knew who he was, since he was only introduced in Japan. But, after abusing his tip and such, Marth’s fanbase went up high because of their skills. He’s doing this again with Pit in a similar format.

I don’t think Sakurai is aiming for popular characters. He just wants characters that seems like people’s gonna have fun with. I’ll agree, they won’t have too much fun with Knuckle Joe. They might Pick DeDeDe, since he’s nearly just as popular as Kirby and Meta Knight.

Rockin I know what you mean about the whole popular versus hidden gems. but I think it deals with gems from more unknown games, like iceclimbers, Pit, and Fire emblem. What do you guys think of stafy (or starfy) being in brawl? You might have to look him up on Wikipedia (Please don’t ask me).

While I don’t have any problems with Starfy, I just get the feeling he’d make a better Assist Trophy then a PC.

I do agree with you mic but if he ended up a character I wouln’t be mad. I think he would do well as either or. they could put him in for publicity and try to sell like fire Emblem. Who Knows.

Diddy Kong has a very high chance in being in brawl. I’ve heard (in the rumor mill) that he was supposed to be in melee before they decided to put in the clones. That would explain why he didn’t even get a trophy though people highly requested him. I don’t know if they’d replace marth, but i believe Roy has a high chance of being swapped out with Ike.

No I don’t think so. When melee was in its later development the team decided to put in clones. When thinking of good clone characters they thought of the new Fire emblem game coming out. They thought it would be a good sales pitch so they put in Roy. Therefore Roy is a gimmick and nothing more.

Marth got in melee because he starred in the first Fire emblem. So he has a decent chance of staying.

Ike is to be the first Fire Emblem starred character to be in two Fire emblem games. He’s also a fan favorite. Therefore he has a nice chance of replacing Roy.

I don’t think there is any way Banjo Kazooie can be a character. In the DS version of Diddy Kong Racing, Conker and Banjo were taken out.

If a Banjo series character made it as a AT, other NPCs, or a NPC that would rock! Sadly, there is a 0% chance of that happening.

The update was intresting. I didn’t like it as much as the other 4 awsome updates, but it was…diffrent to say the least. Seems like they tried to make him a PC maybe! =D

i hope ike makes it i hope diddy makes it its a shame banjo kazooie wont make it as far as im thinking my preference 4 charachters otherwise maybe wolf if wolf is in u think crystal will be 2 is indiffrent at the moment i do however think there will b a animal crossing charachter in the game only 4 the purpose of having its symbol on the stage nd because it got a stage i no absolutely nothing about the series so idk who it would be…..i just remembered hearing hte possibility of having diddy kong nd dixie be 1 charachter similar to the ice climbers nd wen sakurai heard the idea he loved it so who knowssss wouldnt prefer it but whatever
