Frate's little list of yay's and nay's in photoshop and GIMP

1. Lens flares. Don't use them. There's very few exceptions to this rule (but they exist)

2. Bewel + emboss - Don't use it in tags

3. Gradient maps are nice. Use them

4. ...But quality gets lowered if you overuse them

5. Learn to use layer masks. That way, you keep the original layer.

6. ADVANCED ( like in, recommended for MODERATES and above )
Learn to use textures. They'll benefit you greatly in scene tags, and they work well to do lightning on.

Thank GOD you said not to use lens flares. They make your images cheap-looking INSTANTLY.
