Franchise representation

i think its fairly safe to say that the three best selling and well known nintendo franchises, Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon will get at least the same amount of representation, if not more, as in Melee.
Trying to predict what they are is the hard part. I wouldn't be that surprised to see Dr. Mario and pichu gone & replaced, and young Link changed, so even if thats all that happens with their franchises, they will definitely be at least the same amount as in Melee.

I can't find a complete list anywhere of all of Nintendo's games, so I figure this is a good way to go about it.
I can think of several ways to find that out on the internet. Wikipedia, Gamefaqs, Google... and that's if I'm being lazy. However, I think that this is probably the best place. Because...

So, how about, rather than bickering about which characters we think are going to be in Brawl, how about we all band together a bit, and try and make a nice big list of all Nintendo's first and second party franchises
...that's exactly why it was created when Melee was originally announced.

I'd prefer this thread to remain focused around the playable characters.
So...is this like, post your character lists thread disguised as something else? Because that's really what it looks like it's turning into. Franchise Representation extends way beyond who is playable and even ATs. Stages, Music, Trophies, and some non-AT items FTW

Hey, TC again with more revelations, or whatever. I've made a list of all the franchises represented in SSB and SSBM, how many characters there were from each, and what percentage of the character roster that encompassed. I've then gone on to make a third list of predicted representation for SSBB.

SSB

Mario 4 (33.3%)
Pokemon 2 (17.6%)
Zelda 1 (8.3%)
Starfox 1 (8.3%)
Kirby 1 (8.3%)
Metroid 1 (8.3%)
F-Zero 1 (8.3%)
Mother 1 (8.3%)

SSBM

Mario 7 (28%)
Pokemon 4 (16%)
Zelda 4 (16%)
Starfox 2 (8%)
Kirby 1 (4%)
Metroid 1 (4%)
F-Zero 1 (4%)
Mother 1 (4%)
Fire Emblem 2 (8%)
Retro 2 (8%)

SSBB

Mario 8 (20%)
Pokemon 4 (10%)
Zelda 5 (12.5%)
Starfox 3 (7.5%)
Kirby 3 (7.5%)
Metroid 3 (7.5%)
F-Zero 2 (5%)
Mother 2 (5%)
Fire Emblem 2 (5%)
Retro 3 (7.5%)
Third Party 3 (7.5%)
Other 2 (5%)

As you can see, I'm a great big nerd with not much to do.
Considering the number of characters, I wouldn't have thought Sakurai would give any franchise that had been represented before, just one character, so they've all got at least two. I'm confident that no franchise will be given less characters, and most will be given more, although, because of the addition of new franchises, their percentage may be lower than it was.
I've also given Zelda a bit more rep than Pokemon, as I just think that five playable Pokemon would feel like too many.

Fire Emblem has a lot of the same type of characters...So, having many different characters doesn't make them more viable. FE is mostly sword wielders and a few mages.
That may be true, but there's still a lot a variety of sword styles that could be used to make unique movesets. Take Marth and Ike for example. They both use swords, yes, but Marth is an agile yet weak sword fighter noble. Ike on the other hand is a brutish mercenary with strong single strikes, but a tad slow in comparison. Marth and Roy shouldn't have been so similar in melee (Roy's stats were basically the opposite of Marth's in FE) so that's really a bad example of the different styles FE has to offer.

I definately think FE should get at least two, but most likely three reps, so on that part we agree. In melee it got only two representatives because it was only sold in Japan and just couldn't compete with the other franchises. Ever since Marth and Roy's inclusion in Melee, and the localization that followed as a result of their popularity, it's grown quite a bit.

My FE list is:

1.Marth
2.Ike
3.Black Knight or Miciaiah (I'm leaning towards Black Knight, but Miciaiah's got a decent shot because she would be advertisment for the release of FE10 Goddess of the Dawn.

Sorry, I missed your post before, and you raise a good point. I do feel, however, that the playable character roster would be a good representation of everything else in the game as well. For instance, if Mario characters make up 20% of the playable roster, I would expect 20% of the ATs to be from Mario games, as well. I just want to avoid overcomplication.
If anybody disagrees, however, then I'm sure such a disagreement would be covered under the topic. :)
