Fox vs. Shiek: Strategy, Tactics, and General Advice

My little brother's main character is Shiek; and whenever he uses her, he almost always wins. Is there any way to prevent Shiek from getting me into her deadly combos?

how does he usually set them up? dash attack? you can shield that and grab her into an upthrow upair

Ftilt? does he wavedash into it? again you can shield grab

you really juss have to slow your gameplay down a bit and try to understand what he's going to do, and then you can counter accordingly.

Fox is fast, use it to your advantage, move around the stage, dash dance, keep him guessing, and when he makes a mistake get him into one of YOUR combo's.

If you do get into a combo, DI accordingly, and save your tech for when you actually will get to use it, don't start spamming it, know when you're gonna hit the ground (like if he always can get two Ftilts off, or an Ftilt into a Fair, wait for the 2nd Ftilt or the Fair before you attempt to tech) and don't spam your jump either, save that for when you know it'll save you.
Cause if you lose that and end up off the stage you're pretty much a sitting duck for shiek.

Don't hesitate to use shield, and if he starts grabbing you, spot dodge
Just be aware of what's going on in the match, and what you're getting hit by

Good advice

He usually uses dash attack, but occasionally uses dash grab. I have had some success against Shiek's ground attacks by attacking him with Fox's Nair and Bair. Thanks for the advice. Also, one more thing, neither me or my brother can wavedash.

just learn to edge guard them and be really technical.

a technical fox is really annoying cuz they can follow up their shines really easy

falco is generally accepted as a counter.

falco v sheik is an even matchup.

fox is sheik's worst matchup. sheik can CG 15 or so characters, so i'd avoid those. she can't CG DK and someone else (if you DI away, she can't regrab).

she can CG Dk after like.. 10% and up to like.. 70% (some where around that region)

also, Falco is Sheik's worst match up. Fox is a very close second, but i think it's closer to even than 'counter.' Falco counters.

also, i'm fairly confident that sheik actually can't CG DK. if you DI away you get outside of her grab range.

^This somewhat recent thread thinks the Falco Shiek matchup is even.

I think the best advice we can give the guy is to watch the advanced how to play vids if you haven't already and just get more technical.

If you're having problems versus Sheik.

1. Pick Zelda
2. Hold A
3. Wait for match to begin
4. Run at your opponent and press Z
5. Press down on the control stick
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until your opponent is at 80 or higher

At first I didn't believe it either....

But Vanz actually did show me that Sheik can CG DK....

Although its not THAT useful knowledge, with decent DI you can get out of it fairly early. Its not sheik's cg against bowser bad at least

vanz, are you basing your opinion on you vs mango matches? i watched them, and it wasn't character imbalance, that was mango imbalance. one could easy take m2k v shiz to show shiek counters falco.

the match up goes both ways, and like every match up, it is based on who understands it better.

and i meant that stuff as a joke man, didn't realize you'd flip top.

Honestly, Sheik is one of my least favorite matchups by far as Falco. If I didn't have a Fox, I'd probably never beat Sheiks =/

And I agree with Binx. I think at the highest levels, Sheik counters Falco if anything. Tech chases / anti falco shield pressure / gimps etc... make Sheik really good against Falco imo.

I think its pretty even for both Fox/Falco vs. Sheik. If anything, Fox does better. Higher mobility, better hit and run game, better laser game (for easy waveshine usmash ****), better recovery, easy/efficient combos. I'd even go as far as saying that in this match-up, Fox can edge-guard and punish Sheik better. Shine knocks her off, when she comes back on she takes huge damage from waveshines, usmash or uthrow->uair. Falco needs platforms to even come close to that kind of consistent damage per hit.
