Fixed periodical item spawn locations

If you've played Quake or Unreal Tournament, you should know why I'm asking for this.

Is it possible to assign 2/3 points to each stage to spawn items every x seconds? They would still be random.

That would be pretty cool. I didn't even think of that one. I'm a big Unreal fan too and I don't think 25 health popping up at a set location every 30 seconds would ruin a competition. It would be nice to know where items are going to pop up and when. If they can get items to fire from pokeballs, there must be some way to do this.

I think if properly made, this could have some applications in a competitive standard.

If items were on a fixed time period, and at a fixed location, there would be significantly less luck involved. Around the time of an item spawn, map control would become more important.

You'd still have to limit the items very significantly, and make the timer very infrequent (maybe around once a minute), but I think this has applications.

That said I lack the necessary knowledge involved.

Items already spawn at fixed points, so what would this actually be changing?
