Biggest disappointment is that they didn't show the Slytherin house. It could be DLC I guess, but I feel like Slytherin is far more important to Fire Emblem lore than Hufflepuff and should have been there with Gryffindor before Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.

In all seriousness, I agree with the character designs complaint. Felt it since the reveal trailer, but I'm not feeling the artstyle in general, either for the characters or the general detail in the environments. I already miss the map sprites from the 3DS games too. I do appreciate the leap to Renaissance era setting though.

Other than that I really have nothing to say. I was really disappointed with how little they showed considering the Direct was supposed to "focus" on this game and I barely know anymore than I did before. They didn't really show the actual map gameplay much at all, just loads of random shots of the school stuff (which is essentially just a rebranding/recontextualisation of My Castle from Fates). Still not sure on what Formations actually bring to the table. Don't know about other potentially important mechanics like Skills/Arts, etc. Nothing about any online connectivity or even amiibo.

Pretty much all I got from it is that they should have called the game "Fire Emblem: Senpai Simulator" since all they kept repeating was that "the units are your students and you help them grow".

EDIT: Welp, this explains a lot.

There was a problem fetching the tweet

Hey, has anyone else noticed out the shadowed-out, named nations on the edges of the map? No, really, there are named nations on the edges of the map, separate from the main three. I think their names are Albinea, Sreng, Almyra, and Morfic (I may have misspelled those names, as the font the map is written in is barely legible). These four smaller nations are all separated from the main three by either the ocean (Albinea and Morfic) or a mountain range (Sreng and Almyra). Almyra is about the size of the Leicester Alliance, with Morfic being slightly smaller; Sreng is tiny, and Albinea is small-ish (though it looks like it may be a Britain analogue, as it's separated from the main continent by a stretch of water that looks a lot like the English Channel). Sreng and Albinea are less isolated from Fodran than Almyra and Morfic.

As for the roles of these small nations — and, trust me, they will play a role, because they wouldn't be given names if they didn't — I'm guessing that one or more of them start causing trouble for the three major powers at some point in the story (namely, the point where the plot graduates from "skirmishes with bandits" to "ignition of war with a belligerent nation" in other Fire Emblem games). I'm guessing that Albinea and Almyra are just going to be suspicious and standoffish, and after a few skirmishes, Byleth and their students will help them establish a friendly relationship with the three major powers. Sreng, being a really, really small nation, is probably going to be the ruthless nation that does shady crap out of fear of being squashed like a bug, which ends badly for it. Morfic sounds really similar to Mordor and looks like it would be hard for the main three nations to conduct surveillance on or stage an attack on without devoting a lot of manpower and resources to the effort, meaning that it could be plotting and carrying out some world-shattering scheme without the rest of the world being aware of it until it reaches its final stages (which is where the plot reaches its climax). Maybe they're even framing the Church of Seiros for their shenanigans as an additional layer of scheme insurance. Or maybe the Church of Seiros is using Morfic as its patsy.

FE has a track record for putting stuff on maps that ends up being completely inconsequential in the end, so I wouldn't expect too much from them. Not saying they definitely won't be relevant to anything, but it's a bit early to say they definitely will, too.

I'm going with Female Byleth as the male Byleth has a terrible haircut.

I think its really cool that were going to have a lot of customizability in terms of unit growth in this game. Incoming mount emblem strats. (Unless they put a cap on mounts)

The designs are a lot more modern than previous games, one character wearing a trendy hat. Another with eye glasses the only other character I can think of who wore eye glasses is Miriel and Laurent in Awakening.

The cutscene are really choppy, so hopefully they're smoother on release. Speaking of, battle animations are alright though Criticals seem underwhelming as they just look like regular attack animations just with a large cut-in and "Critical" appearing in bold letters.

I'm not disappointed by the delay as I was fearing the worst thinking it might be delayed to Q4 2019 or even 2020.

I think the choppy cutscenes are supposed to have an anime-like effect to them. Personally I think they're fine. What I don't like is how they mixed in these anime cutscenes with some other smooth cutscenes. Thankfully the actual game itself is smooth so yeah

I find the new art style to be interesting and I think it's a nice change that makes the game significantly more light-hearted (although I'm not sure if that's a good thing).

Another great thing is that this game is fully voiced like Echoes and it really adds that extra emotion and depth to the characters. Crit animations are fine, nothing spectacular or anything. I'm also excited for the new armor/cavalry/flier ranks. I'm guessing that's supposed to impact movement and maybe all other stats as well.

The whole gambits/formations stuff makes no sense to me, but I guess you could say it adds a nice touch and makes the battles a lot more large-scale and realistic.

Also, supports. Can't wait to read them. Oh and the child units have to be better than Fates. (In fact removing them altogether might not be a bad idea)

Finally, DLC and amiibo stuff. I can't wait to see how my favorite Fire Emblem characters from Smash and how they look and play in Three Houses. Hopefully you can actually add them to your army too permanently (none of that stupid ghost stuff from Echoes).

I didn't talk about Three Houses in detail, and now that I have some time why not post my overall thoughts and speculation about the game in this thread. We don't have that much to go by, only a 5 minute trailer, but I'll take it. So, let's begin.

First thing to say, I'm still incredibly excited for this game as I was during the last E3. I'm really eager to play a new Fire Emblem game and I'm really looking forward to it. I like the idea behind the school setting, because it allows lots of freedom for builiding the units you command, giving each of them the weapon type you like, it seems like we're back to the original Shadow Dragon. However, it does have it's consequences, as many people have stated, now all characters design seem a bit bland as all of them need to have the uniform of the school, and that is indeed a big letdown, as desings are no longer made freely but have to take a handicap incorporating the uniform to every character... I personally like the art-style, but I have to agree that desings are a bit boring due to that limitation.

They did focus on the school part a lot, so I'm guessing we'll spend even more time roaming through the place and interacting with characters than fighting on the battlefield, which it's also something I'm not sure how to feel. I'm open to this renewed "My Castle", hoping it has lots of interesting stuff, but the thing I love the most is obviously using my units on the battlefield, so I'm hoping it has more importance that the HQ. But combat for the little shown seems neat, arts seem to use the durability of a weapon rather than HP like in Echoes and doesn't seem to be attached to a weapon but rather to a character. I'm a huge fan of this change to be honest, managing the durability of weapons was something that I've missed in the last 2 FE games (Fates and SoV), and now they not only come back, but make them even more important with the arts. I'm just hoping there's some kind of armsmith that can repair weapons, and please don't make legendary weapon with uses, just no... Aside from that, I don't see anything really special in combat, there doesn't seem to be any kind of support abilities like rescue, nor pair ups at all, we just got that brigand boost or whatever it was called, but I wonder how common that would be in the first place. I have yet to see how much of an impact do the attached battalions on the battlefield, because it could be interesting. And the best thing, the new weapon type, PUNCHES!

As for the story, I'm really struggling to make any sense out of it lol. You are a child of a mercenary but suddenly you have special powers... I'm guessing Geralt banged with a dragon or some **** so you have that kind of powers. Then there's the new manakete, Sothis (Who sounds exactly like Lissa by the way), and makes it seem like an "isekai" anime, as Byleth seems to meet her when he gets the axe in the back, and somehow returns back in time or something like that... Then there's the rest of the people, which I thought would be rivals, but on the cinematics we see them chilling with each other. Either it's the beginning of the story and that's why you have all of them with you, to expose them so they can try convince you to join their house, or they will be friends the whole story. Which by the way, since almost all the continent belongs to the main houses, if they don't fight each other I don't know what kind of conflict would make the students have to travel to fight... At least Byleth seems silent at the moment, which is good in my opinion, but if you are going to make it silent I would have worked better as a secondary character, but still, we'll see how this new avatar goes.

Last, speaking of the Houses and their characters, which house would each of you choose at the moment? We know little to nothing about most of the cast, so a decision this early on will be obviously be based of trivial things. I want to go with the Black Eagles, mainly because there's girl Jotaro (Dorothea) and I want to make a meme build with her using magic and punches for the maximun Stand experience (watch her have a 20% strength growth or some **** lol) . I also dig Petra's design, and I have to make Linhardt basically Lyn+Reinhardt, so it's a bunch of memes flowing together on the Black Eagles group lol. After that the Golden Deer seems to be my next choice, I really like Claude's design, and I think that house was different from the other two in the sense that it's only nobles, with no king or emperor, so maybe that will be interesting. I'm hoping that each house will have a completely different story rather than the same told through a different house, and with the biggest wishful thinking ever... I'm hoping that there's a 4th campaing that you can unlock after playing with each of the three houses, and that will let you use every single unit from every house (Basically Radiant Dawn Part 4). But I'm going to keep expectations low on this one and think that every house will have the same story.

That's my opinion and some speculation about the game, I'm going to try snag a limited edition, but we'll see if I'm able to. I'm going to play the hell out of this game, that's for sure.

I don't know how widely known this is, but the Japanese version of Awakening had the option to make Robin silent, altering the dialogue of scenes involving them to account for it (it got dropped in the localisation and they've never explained why). I'd be cool with them bringing that back if they actually include it in the localisation this time.

I haven't said much about the game here so far, mostly because I've been too lazy to do a proper write-up. :p But the short of it is that I'm not too keen on how the Direct basically made it look like High School Emblem; it kind of feels lazy that they went with the high school analogy instead of coming up with something more unique or fitting for the FE universe (I have similar criticisms with how the Gardens in Final Fantasy VIII are just mercenary high schools, to give another example), and in general high school themes don't really appeal to me. It could be just the way the Direct presented it in the short space of time the game got, though, so I'll wait to see more first.

Seeing how (male) Byleth was in a pre-rendered cutscene, I don't think Byleth is going to be a customizable Avatar aside from picking gender. I could be wrong though.

Definitely not. Can't exactly do a hunched over axed in the back pose if you're a 4 foot tall loli.

This week's issue of Famitsu is going to have new info on Three Houses, including the story, world, main characters, and new mechanics relating to battles and the Officer's Academy. Plus the promise of more new info over the weeks to come.

Also some new screenshots and art:

Sothis: "Other than that, I don't know. I cannot remember anything but my name."

Claude's art makes the choice between him and Edelgard even harder tbh

I'm still waiting to see what the rest of the characters of each house are like, but based on just the main characters, it's between those two for me as well. Dimitri needs to wash his damn hair before I'll ever consider him.

I don't get why they don't just cut those off and leave him with some proper hair.

Why's he gotta have those pasta bangs.

"Claude is the House Leader of the Golden Deer"

hey kiddos

"Close Counter (Bow) – Enables counter-attacks when attacked at 1 range"

I actually would have preferred if they just gave bows 2-3/4 range like in Gaiden/Echoes, instead of giving them close range. Bows having close range is pretty powerful, since they usually don't have the fragility or other drawbacks that magic users have. That's probably just me, though.

Who knows they might add a skill that increases bow range as well. Not to mention Combat arts.

Still is hard to decide between Claude and Edelgard, but I'm leaning towards Edelgard cause she was the first shown as well as axes. Though Claude has the best design of the 3 imo.

So... Thoughts on Three Houses Anna?

I think the hair is too pink, should have been a darker red, otherwise it would have been fine.

By the way, this pic is from the official Twitter account. They also uploaded a video to see F!Byleth in action during a cutscene.

I think it's fine. I mean, with all the different Annas, I don't see an issue with a different artstyle being used as a way to differentiate an Anna from the others.

As for the rather pink-ish hair.......I mean, we've seen Anna with Blue hair. Not to mention Anna did start with rather pink-ish hair. Than later went to bright red hair, than to dark red hair.

So I don't see an issue with Three Houses Anna having lighter hair.

Eh, looks different from the previous incarnations but pretty much all the characters in Three Houses looks different from what I expect a Fire Emblem character to look like. Really just small nitpicks like her having a slightly longer ponytail and her hair not having a darker red color. It's still Anna at the end of the day so I will probably get used to the design over time.

More Three Houses info translated courtesy of the folks at Serenes Forest.
https://serenesforest.net/2019/05/1...tsu-article-skills-crests-battalions-academy/

Lots of interesting stuff covered. From skills and gambits, to individual features of classes. Cavaliers have canto again. Crests seem to remind me of Holy Blood from FE4.

Rip to those wanting to do Gauntlet-mount emblem.

Also please keep Leak discussion in spoiler tags.

I wish I could pick Three Houses.

But I sadly have many other games I'm waiting for on line, alongside others that I owe to many people.

Some of those persons are even from Smashboards.

Hopefully I get Three Houses at least during the next year or after that.

Well, I did it.

I managed to beat the game in roughly two days (Black Eagles route), and now I'm suffering from post-game depression. I've felt this way before about FE12 and FE13, and I've gotten over them, and I'm most likely to get over this too, but... man, this pain just hurts. I kinda wanna overcome getting too emotionally attached to fictional characters so that I don't ever feel this pain again, but I don't really think I would enjoy an RPG again.

In any case, feel free to ask me any questions about the Black Eagles route. I'll be sure to mark some answers as spoilers for those interested.

1. Nothing out of the ordinary. You'll be encountering foot soldiers (swords, lances, axes), some magic users, and cavalry more than anything else.
2. Caspar can be pretty good if you give him gauntlets. Very great damage output usually letting him x4 enemies. His high HP lets him tank a few hits too.
3. Once again, Caspar.
4. Bernadetta can become a pretty good unit if you turn her into a Bow Knight. It might take a while.
5. I'm 50/50 on this one. Linhardt is very good as a support magic user since he can use Physic and Warp very well. Hubert is pretty good as a magic user damage output wise, but he can learn Rally Magic to give Linhardt a little more healing power/range and give Rally Resistance to characters like Caspar who desperately need it.

So I finally got Three Houses. Starting from the top, I joined Black Eagles. So without spoilers, I wanted to ask:

1: Regarding the weapon/movement skills for students, should I switch from the default skills early on, especially regarding the Budding Talents?
2: Regarding quests/etc, should I be doing them as early as possible? Or are there some where I should wait on?
3: Are certain stats like Charm important for later events? And which ones should I focus on at the beginning?

What you develop a student in depends entirely on the class you want them to end up in. You could look up a list of all the different classes and plan out your path. As for development of the skills, you should probably be doing it as much as you can in certain instances like flying. This holds especially true for male students that you want to promote into Wyvern classes, since they don't have access to Pegasus Knight as an intermediate class for passive flying exp. Since Wyvern Rider needs C in flying, you have to be pretty vigilant about pumping the stat to get it where it needs to be.

Charm won't really mean much early on, although since growths are RNG in this game you won't really be "focusing" on much of anything anyway. If you want to increase a specific unit's charm with tea parties and golden apples, do it for your potential dancer.

I've been posting my impressions in the Ultimate Social Thread, but I just started playing this game! I don't know how often I'll post my thoughts in here (I'm concerned that this thread is going to be a spoiler minefield, since most of you have likely beaten all three stories by now), but so far, I don't really trust Seteth (who strikes me as someone who's going to commit some kind of horrible deed for "the greater good") or Jeritz (he's wearing a mask in a JRPG, which usually means that he's up to something) as far as the faculty is concerned. (also Rhea, seeing as Jeralt outright said that she's likely up to something)

I chose the Black Eagles (based on the little character descriptions that I got, I like them the most, or at least feel like they'll be the most entertaining), and I've encountered my arch-nemesis for video games - extremely strict time management! (that sort of thing kept me from playing Pikmin 1 for years, made the start of my Persona 5 playthrough more stressful than it needed to be, and prevented me from making any progress in Dead Rising 2 because I was late for a story moment by a handful of seconds)

Admittedly, I don't know how strict the time management is supposed to be - maybe it's not as bad as I think, but I'm worried that I'm going to have to consistently follow guides to make sure that all of my students' classes, training sessions, and tea breaks (I know that tea time is supposed to be serious business in this game) work out the way that they should.
