I don't know what did it, but I finally snapped. I am done with RPGs for a very, very long time. I took all of the RPGs I own (including my MMORPGs) and put them all in a stack aside from my other games to say that I'm done with them for a while. Although I noticed that my lines of games sitting on my shelf (they're lined up like books on a bookshelf) suddenly halved in many places. Especially my PS1 and PS2 sections, showing me that I own far too many RPGs. So I guess that's why I'm so sick of them... anyway, so I'm done with RPGs and plan on sticking to fighters and shooters for a long while. I'd show you my huge stack of RPGs that I won't be playing anymore if I had an SD card and if the DSi camera wasn't when it came to taking pictures of PS1 games (and there's a lot of them). But if I've learned anything so far from my drought of the RPG genre, it's that I own way to much Final Fantasies.

Because I know someone is going to say this, I'll say it first, "cool story, bro."

Cool story bro

Anyway, I get pretty sick of a genre if I've been playing only it for a few days straight.

Of course, I just come back to it a few days later, and the cycle starts again. :bee:

And, yeah, too much Final Fantasy is bad for EVERYONE, even the most "hardcore" fanboy.

Wow you're like the opposite of me. I have about 10 RPG's out of the 200+ games I own. I hope you get back to them soon, I love reading your reviews for them.

Silent Hill.

Play it bro.
I'm planning on taking a trip to Play N Trade today. After I turn in Final Fantasy Tactics I might pick one up. Seriously, your SH4 blog-thing has me interested. I'd be a nice break from "a bunch of twenty-something-year-olds with poor fashion sense and weird hair styles have to save the world!"

Or I might just stick to Okami, because I'm still on the fence of if that's an RPG or not.

A majority of the games I own are RPGs. And I've been playing mostly that for what feels like forever now. I'm just sick of the genres now, and I'm think about getting more into Fighters...

Anyone have any good fighters to suggest? Other than the Soul Caliburs (already a fan) or Street Fighters (not sure if I like these games or not)?

Not a very smart choice. When I was a kid I would get in these stages and sell my best games, seriously, don't do it. You will probably regret it in a few years.

And I don't understand. You don't have to play the RPG's right now, why not just wait to get in the mood, and of course Okami is considered an RPG.

Also if you haven't finished FF8, DO IT!!!!!! some of the beginning may be kind of slow, but once it gets to the 3rd, it is like my favorite RPG of all time. if you could make the beginning of FF8 better, I think it would surpass 9. You just have to make yourself trudge through Balamb Garden for the so many times you have to at the beginning lol.

Actually I've been meaning to sell Tactics for months now, never got around to (and I was never fond of FFT either).

I'm not in the mood for any RPGs, at all. And I probably wont be for a long while due to "RPG overload" but I'll probably start playing RPGs again in a few months, or maybe weeks if I get bored of fighters too quickly.

I own FFVII. played it for about an hour then decided to go to bed because of how late it was. Never touched it again...

I would actually classify Okami as an adventure game, more than an RPG, but hey, that's just me. It feels kind of like Zelda in that regard, and I certainly don't classify Zelda as an RPG.

And I'm sure that I'm going to get a lot of flak for this, but Final Fantasy games are not fun. Don't get me wrong; they have great story and characters, and I've played a fair few of them. But they're not actually fun to play. I don't know what it is, but when I'm playing them, I don't enjoy them. If you're ever looking to get back into the RPG genre, I'd recommend Persona 3. There is nothing quite like a Persona game.

But anyway, if you're looking for a fighting game, I'd recommend Blazblue. If you can find a copy, that is. And for a shooter, Fallout.

Ugh, I've been trying to get my hands on a copy of Blazblue but cannot find it anywhere. And Fallout is another game that I've been meaning to play yet haven't. But thanks for the recommendations.

Blazblue looks amazing and Fallout 3 is really a RPG shooter...which can end up with surprising results. BUT its really a nice game Shooter, RPG what not.

I wouldn't be able to stand not being able to play RPG's, especially with the new Golden Sun coming out for DS.

But untill then, I have beaten all my RPG's except for Chrono Trigger. So after that, I will be looking for other types of games.

If you like Soul Caliber games, the one for PSP coming out looks good, if you have a PSP, and if you don't call KH exactly an RPG, the two new ones are coming out in a few months . But what I really recommend is Monster Hunter games. I just bought Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, and it is amazing. It is incredibly challenging at first, but it is really rewarding and satisfying.

Chrono Trigger was great, one of my favorites to be honest. You should go play it some more, because it's good for you.

That new SC game looks too much like an SCIV port to me, I hate to say. Yes, KH is indeed an RPG. And I could never get into Monster Hunter, also, I don't own a PSP but thanks anyway.

What consoles do you have?
PS1, PS2, PS3 (I'm not a Sony Fanboy, I swear!), Wii, Game Cube, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, DSi, and that's it.

Also: Games I have recently started playing: Infamous, the original Crash trilogy, Okami (I know, it's an RPG, but I'm putting it aside too), and I'm always on Resistance 2.

Haha, okay, I'll give you a few recommendations on the consoles that you have.

PS3:
- Assassin's Creed
- Condemned 2 (Scary as heck!)
- Fallout 3
- Mirror's Edge (This game is worth the play. I don't necessarily recommend buying it, but it's worth a rental, at least.)
- The Orange Box (Any and all games on this collection are great.)
- Resident Evil 5 (But only if you like RE games.)
- Street Fighter IV (Same thing as RE. Not casual-friendly.)

PS2:
- Katamari Damacy (So addictive.)
- Shadow of the Colossus (EPIC.)
Eh, everything else I own for the PS2 is pretty much RPG material. Moving on...

Wii:
- Pikmin...?
Sorry, I haven't really been keeping up with the Wii lately.

GBA:
- Metroid Fusion (Short, but sweet.)
- Kirby and the Amazing Mirror (Pretty darn easy, though.)

DS:
- Advance Wars (But only if you like tactics games.)
- Big Bang Mini
- Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
- Elite Beat Agents (Rhythm game based on Ouendan.)
- Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure
- New Super Mario Bros.
- Yoshi's Island

I have others, but I omitted quite a few for the sake of the RPG. I hope that helps. :)

Sorry, I just couldn't get into Mirror's Edge.

- The Orange Box (Any and all games on this collection are great.)
I really wish that more people played TF2 on the PS3 version. But oh well, I'm still lovin' HL2 and Portal.

- Resident Evil 5 (But only if you like RE games.)
Hate to say this, but I never really liked Resident Evil.

- Street Fighter IV (Same thing as RE. Not casual-friendly.)
I have mixed feelings toward Street Fighter. I was never very good at them, but I think I'll hold out for Super Street Fighter IV Turbo: The World Warrior Championship Edition HD Remix.

- Shadow of the Colossus (EPIC.)
If you own a PS2, buy this game. If you don't own a PS2, then go buy one so you can buy this game.

I have others, but I omitted quite a few for the sake of the RPG. I hope that helps. :)
Thanks. The one's I didn't comment on are the ones I'm planning to look into. The ones I did, well, I either already own them or... well, what I said about them. Thanks for the help, I'll be sure to look into those.

I think this is what I'm going to do: Every week I'm going to start playing a non-RPG and see how long it takes until I want to pick up an RPG again. I started playing through Crash 2: Cortex Strikes back yesterday. so that's my game for this week.

So current score right now: Two days without RPGs.

I find the Ratchet games to be fun, and the Sly Cooper games if you don't have all of them. If you don't have all the Metroid games, you might like those.

The Godfather games? Little Big Planet, Metal Gear games, like any of those?

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You just gained two-thousand awesomeness points!

I liked the Primes, never played any of the other ones, though.

Haven't play Godfather, never interested me. I'm not a fan of Metal Gear, but Little Big Planet looks interesting...

You hated....that's impossible! Did you play Tooie? Or for that matter DK64?
Never played Tooie. Or DK64. My reasons for not liking it is because there really wasn't much to the game play that we haven't already seen before, that and the sheer childishness of the whole **** game was just hair-ripping annoying. And it isn't even the charming kind of childishness, it's the annoying kind.

Do note in terms of 'good-ness'

SH2
SH3
SH5
SH Homecoming

That being said 2 and 3 are basically tied, they are just two different takes on what's scary really, SH4 tried something new in ways that didn't completely work, SH5 is not scary and the plot could've been told soooooooooooooo much better.

Banjo... I'm sorry, but I hated that game.
I am sorry. While the shedding of the poison of RPGs was an admirable endeavor, I have become aware with this statement that you are beyond help. I henceforth declare you a lost cause.

I wasn't a giant banjo fan either, now excuse us while we scale Mount Givea****.
I'm not gonna lie, I laughed.

But seriously, what was so good about Banjo that I should make a cult devoted to it? If someone can give me ten valid reasons for why I should like Banjo, I will drop the whole "I hated Banjo" thing and will join your sick, juvenile cult.

Banjo isn't deserving of a cult fanbase (no game is), and it certainly had annoying flaws, but it is an example of an objectively good game, from a gameplay standpoint, and what platformers should be like. Hating it is kind of like hating happiness. I mean, maybe you don't like excessively happy people and smiling too much makes your cheeks hurt, but happiness is still a good thing, and hating it would discolor your opinions of other, also good things.

To sum this all up into one sentence:

"Banjo Kazooie is a love-it-or-hate-it game."

Isn't Banjo Tooie supposed to be 10 times better than Kazooie? I have heard that the first wasn't even that good compared to Tooie.

Also, I agree completely with Bobson.

And I disagree when you say Kazooie is a "Love it or Hate it" I like it, but don't think it is great, just like everyone I know that has played it, you are giving it too much credit, I have never heard anyone call it perfect.

Bango is not love or hate, it is not that crazy different or weird to where you cant be on the fence. Silent hill is kinda love or hate, where you love it if you don't suck, and you hate it if you suck.

Uh, no? That's not what I said at all. Banjo Kazooie is a love-it-or-think-it's-okay-but-not-really-amazing-for-you game.

So you're saying that Banjo is a game that is unhateable?

I smell fanboy...
I'm saying Banjo is a game that is, from a strict gameplay perspective, objectively good, and if you outright hate it, then you are wrong. ("In the minority" if you want to be PC)

Isn't Banjo Tooie supposed to be 10 times better than Kazooie? I have heard that the first wasn't even that good compared to Tooie.
Tooie took the basic Banjo gameplay in a different direction. It was a lot bigger and more exploratory than the original and wasn't focused so much on platforming as it was minigames and finding stuff. It was also darker than the original, so the people who were too manly to play silly kids games before took a shine to it.
Which is better is largely a coin toss depending on who you ask.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

Finalark, is the only real reason you dislike it because it is in the shadow of games like Mario 64 or DK64? Just because it is not as good as them?
