So after watching the new character trailer of Robin and Lucina, I've noticed something that Sakurai should've done for each character's final smashes. At the end of the trauiler, when Robin activates his final smash, Chrom appears and right before he strikes there is an image cut in of him, similar to the mystic artes of the Tales series. why couldn't Sakurai implement this for everyone's final smash? That would've been so epic and make the final smashes more dramatic. what do you guys think?

I like that idea but at the same time it would remind me of tales too much! I guess that's a good thing considering tales is on of my favorite series!

In a way, you sorta answered your own question. The cut-in's fit the RPG (and fighter) archetype, such as with the Tales series.
As much as I'd love fighter-esque hyper portraits, it wouldn't work out with every character.
Robin's works because the cut-in happens on hit-confirm. Mario's for example, would just block the screen during his close up.

It would be awesome, but it would be very distracting wouldn't it? I can see many people messing up their game because of the cut-in images.

I really want them for every character too.

Xermo's logic makes no sense, even though it only happens on hit confirm, it still blocks the view for the other 2 players, though since most of us play 1v1 it shouldn't matter, the portrait is only on the screen briefly and you should be able to keep track of your position during that time, even if it was 4 players.

All Final Smashes disrupt the games view, they zoom in on the character who uses the final smash, a portrait that flashes for 1 second is less disorienting then a camera zoom. Also the portrait appears after the zoom effect, not during it.

It's very specifically a reference to FE:A. So... that's probably why?

I agree it'd be cool though.

but Bandai Namco makes the tales series and they're working on this game too right? it would make sense for them to implement some elements from some of the games they made in the past. would love to see a Megaman cut in image.

edit- 500th post. took me long enough, lol.

Okay I'll go ahead and respond directly cause you missed my first post.

That cut-in happens in FE:A, so as cool as it would be for everyone, it's only meant to be a reference to that game with those characters.

Lying about my country.
It's more of a "special attack cliche" than anything, didn't even think of the Tales of Whatever series. =P

Wouldn't mind it happening, it's pretty cool and always a good way to know that some cool ****'s coming. But we already got the dark screen + zoom in for that, so there's not much need to add something else, this work fine as a unique character quirk.

Obstruction of other players isn't why I say it works with Robin, activation on hit-confirm is the basis of my logic.
It'd look stupid for a mario cut-in to appear during the close up of his animation. It'd block mario himself and detract attention. Same goes for Peach or Jiggs, or Ganon. Waste of good animation if it's being blocked.
Chrom, on the other hand, looks natural because his actual attack didn't begin until after the portrait leaves.

Though none of this really matters.

Because halfway through Awakening you already grow sick enough seeing this as is. I rather not exhaust it in Smash Bros while it still has novelty.

Kind of reminds me of the original Marvel vs. Capcom. That was happening every few seconds in that game.

But then that game was was sheer chaos, so it fit. I mean, you think four-player free-for-alls in Smash are nuts, then play just one round of Marvel vs. Capcom. That game is highly organized madness. In Smash, it wouldn't fit at all if every single character did that.

The cut in is just a FE:A reference. A bit backwards, since it means Chrom is using an ability or a critical instead of a Dual Strike (and I'm convinced the Final Smash is called Dual Strike), but whatever. It's a neat touch and something I loved in Awakening, but not something that would fit for everyone.

Incidentally, I hope Chrom gets his quotes from the game when he gets warped in.

Well, Chrom could be critting the enemy when he Dual Strikes. :)

Me as well. Maybe they'll both get another cut-in for the final strike.

Remember the part of the original trailer where they revealed the FSes for the first time, that Mario cut-in mini cutscene could work, something to make it a little more cinematic, I'll admit that the Chrom thing looks amazing, it'd be even more amazing if he shouts ANYTHING CAN CHANGE!

I disagree, "time to tip the scales!" never gets old.
