Final Smashes/Camera Discussion

I have read several times on this board, people seem to believe that when a Final Smash is set loose, apparently the camera adjust to that attack. To me this makes no sense at all. First of all we only seen them in the trailers. The trailers are made to be cinematic and probably adjust the camera to their liking for the best effects.

What sounds even dumber (IMO) is that people think that the camera will adjust for only certain FSes. For example, Mario's Final Smash covers up the whole stage, no need to adjust the camera. Now switch over to Kirby's or even Link's Final Smash and people then think "Final Smash means camera adjust."

Its wierd how people think this, watch the trailers and you can see several times where the camera romes around showing off various scenes, so using this logic "When Snake crawls on the ground, and Wario is Crawling backwards then that must mean camera must adjust."

Your thoughts on the matter?

I don't think thats exactly what the majority of the board thinks.

They/We mean that everytime a character grabs a smash ball, the camera zooms in on them, always in the same fashion, for just a moment, not the duration of the entire move. And yes, this is all based on trailers that could very well just be for cinematic effect.

I do think the 15-second clip we've got could be close to what the real deal would be like.

I don't think it should zoom it, it just looks better for a trailer..

But I agree that the background will turn darker (Like a Mortal Kombat fatality).. Does it turn darker? Too lazy to watch it again.

It might zoom it for a bit so you can see who got the Smash Ball though.. We'll have to wait and see.

If the camera zoomed in it would COMPLETELY screw up every who is trying to avoid the final smash, so we can be SURE that it's out of the question. The only final smashes we've seen ZOOMED is Kirby's and Link's, and IMO I think this is only because we wouldn't be able to see/understand what's happening if the camera didn't zoom in on them (For the Trailer only) .

Nobody is saying that the camera zooms in for the entire duration of the final smash.
That would be stupid.
The idea is, when someone grabs a smash ball, and their eyes glow, the camera switches focus to them for a brief moment pausing gameplay for just a second.

It's somewhat obvious that the camera does zoom when Pikachu starts the Volt Tackle in the 15sec clip.

As for Link's in the same clip, it would obviously be zoomed in like that if Wario was the only opponent.

1v1s I think will zoom in.. but only for FSs like Link's.. But if its like Pikachu's I think it will only zoom in a little if any.

The camera was always an odd thing in the SSB series.. to me anyway.. Some times it zooms in and out a lot. Just some more kinks that "The Studio" will have to work out..

if you watch the new video, you can see that it zooms in on pika for a sec when he activates the FS (probably just to emphasize whats happening, OMG PIKA FINAL SMASH RUN!!!), then immeadiately before he begins to control the attack it zooms back out to the normal camera view. i think most final smashes will be like this. it will make the final smashes look cooler, while still giving others a chance to avoid it.

See the above post.

Also, I pray that the camera in no way shape or form cuts anyone off the screen like it did far too often on stages like Hyrule Temple and Yoshi's Story 64.

Any sort of pause in the gameplay would really **** things up, but now that you guys mention the new trailer, it'll probably happen.

EDIT: Well, no, hold on. In that movie, Mario and DK are moving as it zooms out, so I assume the gameplay wasn't paused. Why would the game zoom in but not pause people? That would be insanely unfair.
