Made this hread not long after I first joined, but since it's active again for now I might as well update the OP a bit.

This thread is to discuss your ideas and thoughts on Final Smashes for veteran characters. (characters that have already been in a Smash game)

I look forward to seeing ideas from all of you.

EDIT: So this thread apparently got tons of activity back in November and I didn't notice it (or it might have been fron one of the merged thread). That aside, we're finally starting to see some Final Smashes from veterans and some newcomers too. Feel free to discuss already revealed final smashes here as well, from veterans or one of the newcomers.

Sonic: He turns into Super Sonic or Weresonic ramdomly. As Weresonic he's more avoidable than Super Sonic, but he causes a lot more damage whenever he grabs someone. He might be the only char to have TWO final smashes.

Luigi: The negative zone is given to Tingle (it fits him more IMHO) and repleaced with a dragon punch surrounded by a flaming aura shaped like the dragon of Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Tingle: As said he has now the negative zone, which starts small and enlarge till reaching the height of the screen, to then decrease and disappear.

I suspect there will be a change to how final smashes work. Judging by the demo of Playstation All Stars, that game has the right idea. The final smashes aren't random, but are earned using a meter. Well, there's more to it than that, but the general idea is that anyone can hold out for their final smash instead of it just being awarded to the person who broke the smash ball.

Brawl final smashes are also perhaps kind of dull in the sense that in general all they do is KO all your opponents one time, and maybe a second time depending on the final smash. Ironically I have to wonder if if final smashes should KO only one time, because then there's no waiting for people to respawn while the final smash is still going on, and the respawning players aren't forced to be thrown back in just to be killed off again. Final smashes like Captain Falcon's however will be kept since it's 1) brief, and 2) capable of missing. Not to mention hilarious. Jigglypuff's final smash is another good one since it's exciting and involves everyone in a way other than being killed over and over.

But whether it's related to the above or not, I suspect there will be changes in some form or another to how final smashes are handled. And on 2nd thought maybe the smash ball method has its advantages, but I still would be surprised not to see something about it tweaked.

Personally, i'd like for them to return, unchanged,
......they need to be fixed first. especially sonic and the spacies.

Also can they give me a final smash that can actually do something on larger stages?

About them being unchanged...actually, some characters final smashes are under-powered compared to most. Ness/Lucas' Fsmash (Not Forward Smash) is pretty powerful, and hard to avoid. (Also depends on the stage) Mario's Fsmash, I am not a fan of. I've been in situations where, if I had low %, it would kill me for sure, and if I have high percent, I could get out actually pretty easily. Other than that, it's pretty easy to see coming, and you can just jump over it.

LOL, Tingle with the negative zone? WE'RE DOOMED! I would like to see Sonic is his Werehog form, that would most likely be my favorite final smash. :D

I can relate to that, I can avoid Ness/Lucas's Fsmash on some stages (like Bridge of Eldin) and I don't USUALLY have trouble with Mario's, it's all in the timing for me.

Werehog final smash would be a good idea since it would get around the night aspect. (the final smash would obviously just make it night) But I think I would prefer if Werehog was a playable character (or an alternate form for Sonic, like Sheik/Zelda) instead of just a final smash.

It would be awesome if Kirby got the Ultra Sword in the next game. Either that or Crash Kirby, but that would probably be too much...

For Mario I'd make it so that his final smash was larger(so it's harder to jump over), a little faster and did like 10% more damage. Other than that I like the Mario Finale. For the Star Fox crew, I'd rather have Fox keep the Landmaster, while Falco used and Arwing, or vice versa. Don't know about Wolf though. With Samus I'd rather have so that she didn't lose the power suit after the Final Smash. Seeing as how I personally feel that the two characters should be separate from one another, given that they are so different, much like Jin and Devil Jin from Tekken. Or Sub Zero, and his Cyborg form in MK9. The only problem is figuring out Zero-suit Samus's Final Smash would be. I think Luigi could use the Poltergust for a Final Smash, maybe he could release a bunch of ghost from the vacuum at once.

I would like to see 4 Final Smashes for each character.
Neutral Final, Side Final, Up Final and Down Final.
These attacks would be more like charged up versions of each character's Specials, not unblockable attacks that cover the screen.
You would have to use the Final's skillfully and strike when your opponent isn't guarding, otherwise it would be wasted.

For Example:
KIRBY
Neutral Final: Kirby Sucks up a boulder out of nowhere expanding his size significantly. Spit it out for a star that does major damage.
Side Final: Kirby Slams Hammer Forward onto the ground sending a shockwave through the ground in front of it that will launch opponents.
Up Final (Ok in Air): Kirby performs his up special like normal but with the ULTRA SWORD
Down Special (Air Only): Kirby Becomes a Meteor and Hurdles toward the earth.

Heck you could even have Final Grabs. Kirby's up throw has so much potential.

I want Final Smashes to be incorporated into competitive play. but for that they would need more variety and to be less overpowered.

I love the Smash Ball concept, it should be kept as the main method of obtaining Final Smashes, I also love the idea of only one Final Smash can be used at a time. The Smash Ball basically puts into conflict the two main objectives in Smash Bros., the first one is deal damage on your opponent, and the second is send your opponent flying offscreen.

The improvements that I suggest is, add a color change every time a Smash Ball gets hit and a slight speed increase of its movimentation in the air, a split-second text box on screen when a Smash Ball comes out (just like Daybreak parts in Kid Icarus Uprising), replacing some transformation FSes by giant beams, super massive combos or something, I consider easier to balance a giant super move than a gamebreaking invincible transformation, the button input for activate the Final Smash also should be changed by attack+special or grab+special, whatever, some kind of input that doesn't blocks the standard special move.

It would be cool if they added a character's theme song when they use their Final Smash. In Brawl, I think Peach is the only one who has music playing in the background when she uses her FS. I don't think anyone else had any, but it would be a nice little feature to add in the next game. They could also have it to where we can use any song from a certain character's franchise. For example, I'd have Fountain of Dreams play for Kirby, who hopefully has an awesome FS in SSB4. :bee:

Wolf: Back-up (Wolf's Star Wolf teammates appear in the background as start blasting the stage)
Mario: Mega Mushroom (Mario becomes ridiculously big allowing you to trample anyone who gets in your way, will fail if your in an area too small for Mario to transform such as the lower part of The Temple)
Link: Great Spin (Link does a huge spin attack with massive range and power which lasts for several seconds leaving Link invulnerable during that time. You can move Link during the attack)

Falco's and Wolf's I've changed for obvious reasons. Mario's and Link's I've changed since I was never too fond of their Brawl final smashes since they don't really look like anything they perform in their games.

Donkey Kong and Dedede also have a BGM playing during their FSes, but I'm with you, a BGM sounds great for transformation FSes.

Good Lord, NO!!!

Keep the Mario Finale, I love that Final Smash too much, it's pure style and power, and also, Mario Finale is based on the Ultra Flame attack from Super Mario RPG.

And keep the Triforce Slash too, I miss massive combos as FSes in many characters like Snake and Lucario (which his FS should be Close Combat).

Sonic one's is OP like ****, but it's the right one.
DK's is useless. Funny but useless.
The others are OK I guess.

In my honest opinion, I think that every Final Smash created until now should be kept, except for the Landmasters.

Useles?! DK's Final Smash is absurd! If performed correctly, which is much easy to do, it can be a thorn, it's able to reach the two ledges of Final Destination at the same time.

On Final Destination basically everything works fine. Try using it on the DK level lol.

I do not think clown car would be a cool final smash, would rather keep Giga Bowser.

Also think Empress peach could be a much more awesome final smash than what Peach has at the moment, both cooler and would most likely be more useful.

What the... Where is that from? Super Princess Peach? How would it work?

For Giga I don't know, he's just so bland. I would keep him as a boss, but I find the Clown Car much more significant to Bowser's character and history. It could work like Diddy's but a little easier to control.

Its from Mario Strikers Charged. I think it could work somewhat similar to yoshi's, but with her flying around using attacks with heart effect. In my opinion it would fit her. Other ideas for final smash for her would be something based on the Emotion powers from Super Princess Peach.

I agree that the clown car is more significant to his history, but i don't think it fits as his final smash since he almost never use it for fighting. It would fit more on Bowser jr. since he actually uses it for Fighting.
Giga Bowser on the other hand I feel is a variation "Giant bowser" which is used multiple games. examples:Super Princess Peach, Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Bowser's Inside Story. Giga Bowser just change more than just the size.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Dedede's abysmal FS. If any of them need to be changed, it's Dedede's. The Ice Climbers, too, though I don't know what we have to choose from.

Ice Climbers' FS is already pretty cool (no pun intended), and DeDeDe's fit him. Sure it's not a giant beam of death or a grenade launcher but my only problem with it is diversity. There's only Waddle Dees, Waddle Doos and Gordos, what a pitiful army...

Even assuming Final Smashes will be included with the exact same mechanics, I think absolutely every character should get a new Final Smash. Also, they should be designed with greater emphasis on how they function in gameplay. Particularly how they affect the battle's pace. I don't want any more "Oh no, it's time to stop the whole battle so we can run a way from a flying Yoshi for thirty seconds."

As for new FS ideas, just one: Mic Kirby. HEEYAAAAAA! ...eyaaaa ...eyaaaa.

Yeah they should make different final smashes too. It gets repetitive. Kirby could have tons of them.

And yeah Dedede final is pretty bad too. Pit's wasn't that bad but now with Uprising out it should be changed with his golden armor.

True, they fit, but when stacked up against Final Smashes like Super Sonic, Triple Finish, and even ones like Octopus, they really show how bad they are.

That's why I said "What a pitiful army". It could be far better. Also, the IC's FS is already pretty powerful.

On small stages. On stages like the Bridge of Eldin, human players can simply walk away and avoid damage. Any opponent can also hit the Iceberg to make it smaller.

Didn't know that. I don't play the IC often and that's a pity... They should make it proportional to the stage then. However big the stage is, the iceberg should still take a very large place.

I just think it shouldn't be avoidable by simply walking away, so I agree. I did think of a new one, but it isn't all that great. :chuckle:

They could just add avalanches, or hail. I mean, I can't find something cooler than creating a whole iceberg out of nowhere, except adding avalanches and/or hail.

I think this should be Mario's new Final Smash, because his current one sucks, and controllable ones tend to be the best, and I like Mario. He'd basically just be invincible, really fast, and destroy everything in his path for a few seconds, like in his games.

I expect a few characters, like Mario to get revamped Final Smashes. Especially Luigi; what the hell even is his supposed to be? I get the "Brother's shadow" joke, but what? Where did that even come from? Just give him something LM:DM based. Jeez. Characters like Link might get some new ones as well, but I guess we'll see.

I just want all Final Smashes to be good. Basically guaranteed, or damn near guaranteed KOs.

I think instead of hitting smash balls, each character have a meter which fills every time they deal damage. Once the meter is full, then final smash is utilized.

Just balance them. They're ridiculously unbalanced in Brawl.
Not that I care that much since I don't expect I'll ever have them turned on either way.
