Who here has played it?

Talk to me about your best character setups, battle style, little tricks you've learned.

And has anyone here completed the 300 missions AND unlocked the Corrupt Judge's Arc?

it's from 2004, it's probably fine to leave it though.
I love this game, but have never beaten it. I have never read any guide or anything, and am completely stuck on where to go to advance the story, so I just battle random people until I have some uber team.

Reg advance?

I had something like:

Pally/Hunter, Red Mage/Summoner, Time Mage/Black Mage, Templar/Gladiator, Gunner/Juggler, Juggler/Thief

Simple and nooby.

2nd playthrough with:

Thief/Blue Mage, Pally/Hunter, Juggler/Item, Assassin/Summoner, Templar/Bishop, Gunner/Juggler

Or something of that mix. I really should've gotten another Assassin, but didn't really want to and the names of my party was pretty cool.

Lets see the one for the GBA right?

Personally I found that Humans and Viera were all you needed in that game since Humans had all the usefull classes and NINJA (double swords makes learning incredibly easy) And with the viera you took three paths normally.
1: Assassin (Extremely agile, suprising attack strength, pretty broken abilities) Use Turbo MP
2: Summoner (Combine with double cast and Magic power + to see things die)
3: AKA Green Mage (Not a real class but Red Mage combined with Elementalist makes multi-Element spells that inflict status ailments)

I never got all the missions done since for whatever reason I could never get I think White Thread or Black thread (its from a mission that just never showed up again)

The best Nu Mou class is the Sage. Excellent stat growth + Turbo MP + Giga Flare + Raise = Amazing.

BTW, If you have two Jugglers that know smile, you can level them up as much as you want(although it will take time).

I played this game for forever and a day. Lots of good times.

lol I used mirrored armor/buff and used quicken. I got montblanc to his max level before I beat the first totema xD

I remember my main character had doublesword and strikeback, as well as a mirror buff, so it was only possible to hit him with arrows, non-elemental magic or greased bolt.
He was a paladin, so naturally he held excalibur 2 and nagrarok.

The second tactics is even more win.

I liked BM/whatever. Leveled as either Sage or Time Mage.

-aga spell + Turbo MP + Black Robe thing = awesome.

I liked the second tactics because Bangaa weren't complete trash. And that the battle system was overall better. However, I do like the other parts less (i.e. map stuff, the general interface.ettc)

Hm...you mean the DS one right?

I was a little sad that the viera got a slight nerf while the bangaa got an incredible buff and became the tanks they should've been on the GBA.

The one big annoyance on the DS is that MP works differently since you start with zero on the first round and regenerate a certain amount each turn of the character. That messed up my strat in the GBA with my summoner with double cast having either teleport or high movement entrap all the enemies in damaging summons.

Yeah, the DS one. I just kind of felt it didn't have the speed of the first where I could go in and just OHKO everything off the bat with proper team management. And the names are suckier.

I felt that the DS version pretty much screwed over Nu Mou, but Viera weren't necessarily nerfed. Red Mage/Summoner with blood price is amazing.

What's with the slight Bangaa hate?

I ALWAYS had either a templar or gladiator as one of my 6 thqat always went out, and they always owned the field.

Actually, mine was usually :

Hunter/Pally ; Alchemist (It was the alchemist right? with the frog/meteor and such?) ; Assasin; Templar; Juggler

Worked pretty well for me, and when something was frogged, it was more difficult for them to avoid the assassin's Stone, hooray for combos!

(Wish I knew where my cartridge was..I need to give it another play-through :( )

<_<

The PSX/PSP FFT is way better than both its Advance predecessors.

You guys should play them.
I dunno. I tried playing FFT once, but I still enjoyed FFTA's battle system more. I'll go borrow a PS1 and FFT again since you rbought that up.

Bangaa lacked Concentrate. Lack of Concentrate means it takes longer to beat the crap out of people, which is pretty bad when Assassins and Pallidan/Hunters can just Last Breath/Rock Seal or Sonic Boom everything to death. Then Jugglers to repeat it over and over again. The game can be beat with about any team; I just go for a no chance of response type of team.

I've played through it. I love sRPGs, but I absolutely hated playing through FFTA.

I blame the law system.
*spoiler about law system*
Once you get antilaws, it's bearable. Until then, doing a story mission against animals with a law against damage to animals is ********. Please try to tell me otherwise

And then the game has FF9's ability system. I still dont understand why it's a good idea to make it so you magically learn and forget skills as you equip/unequip items. I know it's a game so I can look past the logic, but when you want somebody to learn a good skill from a terrible sword or something, it's kind of ********.

__
I could go on and on about my gripes, but I didnt give the game much of a chance once I got into it. I just curb stomped it and went about my business.

I actually need to give it a "Then and Now" review and give it a second chance, cause it's probably nowhere near as bad as I made it out to be.

__
edit, i just saw the post above me.
[bias]FFT ***** the everlasting **** out of FFTA. FFTA2 can put up a fight, but not a good one. That is all.[/bias]

why did you throw ;) it away? I never beat the game because it was my brother's and he wouldn't let me play, but I got pretty far. I'd definitely play it again if I still had it. I bought my brother FFTA2 for his birthday, I never played it though Anyone know if it's good?

And yes. Laws are ********. I had to turn off and turn on the game so many times because of ******** laws

I never beat the game, the screwed up mission system stopped me a good few missions short.
