Hello! I return with another task which needs your assistance!

This time the subject is media studies, and, as the title says, it is to do with women and film

if you could just answer a few questions please

1. When the word villain is said, what do you associate it with, a male or a female?(when answering, please say the first thing that comes to your head, as this is crutial to my research)

2. who is your favourite female villain?

3. what makes a good female villain?

4. what makes a good male villain?

after you have answered these questions, can you please state whether you are male or female.

thank you for your time, cookies for everyone!

1. Male (actually, neither one, but if I had to choose, it would be male)
2. Whoever the female villain was in Kill Bill (I forget the name--sorry)
3. Female: Sexy, confident, vicious; capable of extreme villainy (but you wouldn't know by looking at her)
4. Male: Smart, suave; cruel, yet complex

I'm a guy.

Sounds like a cool paper/project, Whyt_Diablos.

thanks guys

the general idea for our media exam was private studies. we could study anything as long as it was based on women and film. I chose how media portrays women as villains. :)

When I think of a villan I think of a female because they tend to hold grudges longer.

Fav female villian=Poison Ivy, Batman and Robin
Fav male villian: Frodo, Hunchback of Notre Dame (Video game version.)
What makes a good female villian: has to be seductive and just evil.
Good male villian...they have to know what cards to play so they can push the hero's buttons.

I'm a guy!

Off topic: Hey, Diablos, when're you putting up the rest of that fanfic!

I'm expecting there was alot of jokes about this? (specifically the ladies of the nekid persuasion?)

1. Male
2. Xenia from goldeneye. Duel wielding a Machine gun AND a grenade launcher? Score.
3. Evilness, intelligent ruthlessness, a grudge is always something handy, not to mention the steriotypical tight/skimpy clothing.
4. Intelligent, quick witted, good at dishing off one liners (I exxpect you to die and have a very cheap funeral!) some sort of large underground lair with hordes of minions and maybe some sort of mutant animal, like a legged whale, with a pistol for eyes so he shoots to see. That'd be AWESOME.

What was I writing about again?

suprisingly there wasn't any jokes. everyone picked a clean topic (probably because our teacher can be scary) I didn't really pick mine either. I did a kick *** presentation on the same subject earlier this year and it was suggested that I do this, so technically, I had a head start

Notftomearth7: I'm trying, but unfourtunatley, coursework + machinima practice + school production + concert + carol service = 1 minute of free time, maximum. I have an hour in the morning, but at that time its worrying about 2 things.

1. how to get through the day
2. what's going on the dojo today.

thanks for doing the survey guys :)

Someone with direct bad intentions usually for self-benefit. A binary opposite of the 'hero' providing one exists. Easily identified as 'the bad guy'. Gender-wise as you specifically ask I would assume male from the top of my head and nothing else.

2. who is your favourite female villain?

My favourite female villain, takes me back there I say. Had a hard think and the only female villain that I particuarly like that I can think of is Jessica Rabbit. Perhaps you could comment that many films, especially top ones, lack a female villain, perhaps women are considered weak?

3. what makes a good female villain?

Manipulation. Seductry. Mystery. A Femme Fatale.

4. what makes a good male villain?

Power. Wit. 'Cool' (not in the streetwise sense) and Intelligent.

I'm male.

Why you didn't just do "the role of women in film" is beyond me. It opens you up to just about everything on the subject. Male Gaze, Character traits, perhaps even sneak in audience viewing position (heterosexual male) though this ties in with the male gaze. There is opposing theories on everything complete with examples. Easiest question I ever did for film studies. You could mention Basic Instinct, and how it was recieved, it's filming style, what it's characters represented (post modern woman, out for power, used her sexuality), Pretty women's opening sequence with Julia Roberts, fragmentation of the body, tracking, slow-mo, Rear Window, with characters such as Ms. Torso, pfft, right there a gold mine, the voyeuristic filming style, the way Lisa (I think) is introduced. Oh and Thelma & Louise, how they transcend from weak (one of them is walked all over by their husband, who is later to be shown as incompetent) to strong, bearing this with the acquisition of a phallic item, and that's all just from the top of my head! There so much more in my notes (which unfortunately are no longer with us).

Anyway, I'm obviously suffering from a lack of full stops and correct punctuation at the moment, so give yourself a pat on the back if you got through all that in one breath.

EDIT:

There were a number. Most popular choice seems to be Lucy Liu's character, O-ren Ishii, but there is also her sidekick, Go-Go Yubari (Chiaki Kuriyama). There was Copperhead (Vivicia Fox)and Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah), as well as the french chick Sophie (Julie Dreyfus).

Yeah, Sporkman, Lucy Liu's character. O-ren Ishii, you say? That's her. I think she won an award for best villain or something.

1. Female
2. Yubaba from Spirited Away
3. Being mean, but also having likable qualities and doing good every once in a while. A good villain makes it hard to tell if she's on your side or not. The villain should be against you, but not completely. Yubaba I think does a great job of this, because on the one hand, she stole 3 of the characters in Chihiro's name and turned her parents into pigs, but on the other hand she congratulated and hugged Chihiro, telling the other workers they should learn from her after cleansing the river spirit.
4. Same traits as 3.

O-> I'm a male
