Events2Compete will be hosting a Super Smash Bros 64 & Melee tournament fundraiser on Saturday Feb. 1st at EXP Gaming Lounge in Oak Park, IL from 1-9 pm. Part of the proceeds will be used to raise funds for a start-up web company, to cover venue costs, and to pay staff. All ages are welcome. We will be holding a 1v1, 2v2, and four player free for all tournaments for both 64 and Melee. Outside food and drinks are allowed.

Check out the event page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/1376025239327400

Let us know if you will be attending and if you are bringing friends as well. Please bring your own controller. Spaces are limited so register online before the tournament to guarantee placement. 120 people is the limit for both tournaments combined. Buy your tickets at the link below to receive a discount. Online registration is optional and you can pay cash at the venue to register, however it's cheaper to buy them online and spaces may fill up before then so register before it's too late:

this payout system is interesting

i'm curious as to where money goes, care to elaborate on specifics a bit?
for example, how much of the entrance fee is for venue/staff/fundraising/non-tournament pot??

I mean, this is a for-profit venture and they've been up front about that, I don't think that's a bad thing

Obviously a better thing for the community would be semi-volunteer TO's, that's how it's always been done

But if no one is willing to volunteer to do the work that these guys are doing (recruiting noobs, getting venues, running the actual tourney) then I see no reason why they shouldn't make their money.

I would say prices are a little high. i would say 10-15 for singles is good but if they never make cash how can they ever grow to bring bigger tournaments and grow the community because small tournaments will never bring more people because no venue will make a deal with someone who brings 20 a tourney but if try start bringing 100 a tourney then prizes go up and amount of smashers goes up and online u get it for like 17 a tourney if u do all 3 so it's actually not as bad as people think

These tournaments are basically $16-17 for each singles, doubles, and ffa if you take the $50 discount. We're experimenting by offering big prizes with different entry fees to see how many people will show up. This is only our second tournament and there will be many more to come. Our next tournament will probably have a lower entry fee.

We've spent a lot for this tournament advertising, doing flyers, etc. Venue fee is $5 per person. I won't elaborate more on the rest of the expenses but just know that it's not as simple as any dollar we make over prizes is profit like most people are thinking. If 20 or less show up for each tournament, we aren't even making a profit like our first tournament.

Thank you for that. You seem to be the only person that understands that.

I'm surprised battlecow didn't take first. Good job Knite fox.
Combo blaze is the best player of all time and people don't even know it (I mean, and I'm bad, but that goes without saying). He got me twice.

Solo was waiting in GF's and forfeited cuz he had to leave, combo and knite screwed around in LF's (random chars and stages and so forth)
