Exploring ways to better use the dtaunt spike

Note:
I realize this is situational, but with luigi's momentum and crawl walking, it should be semi-useful. (additional testing needs to be done to see just how strong of a spike it is and how much priority it has. [it didn't KO the Kirby i tested it on, but the strength of the spike might change with the percentage. {like falco's side b} Also, it might KO a char with recovery that is not as good as Kirby's.] Feel free to test any of this and post the results so we can see just how useful this is.)


When to use:
Whenever a character is coming up from underneath a stage like Delfino Plaza or Distant Planet.


The hitbox:
it is in his front foot.
(facing > before the kick)

It doesn't seem to reach too far under the stage, but i haven't tested just how far it reaches.


Ending Remarks:
Not sure how useful this will be until more testing has been done, especially on it's priority and range. (it may be able to hit some characters out of their vertical recoveries) I will edit this post as the possibilities and usefulness of this move become more clear.

This seems really interesting, I'm also going to test it out.

I have a few ideas:

In the stage were with go through floor, like Delfino etc. It'd be good to test the D-tilt spike against Meta-Knight's Shuttle Loop for priority, and against Fox's vertical recovery for gimping potential. Also, against Snake's cypher.

If this turns out to be good, Delfino and stages with floors like it could be a good stage to counter pick.

Lol I didn't betray the Luigi Boards :psycho:, like I explained to cmxpr, Wario and Luigi are my favorite characters in the game, don't fret lol. I use both and their style's (The DI part) are really similar.

I like both char's!

Lol I know, just bored and messing with ya :p I use Mario as well since he's similar in a way to Luigi, and i'm big fan of the mario brothers :p They both are aerial demons :D

im stil thinking that down taunt is better.
I thought of that too. I tested it, and it seems as if it can be used in the same way. there are 3 main differences.
1. dtaunt seems to have a bigger hitbox.
2. dtaunt has much more startup lag, as only the second swing spikes.
3. dtaunt is a MUCH stronger spike.

yes, but only in the foot that is planted during the entire kick, the foot used to trip people does not.

I have yet to test out the priority of both the dtaunt and the dtilt becuase I cant manipulate 2 controllers at the same time very well.


Still needs testing:
Priority of both.
More detailed analysis of the hitboxes of both.
Just how much faster dtilt is.
Can dtilt be done while sliding? [dtaunt can- but does it still spike?]

i somtimes get hit aswell, but if the dtaunt connects, nothing is stropping it.

nothing.

ive taunt spike almost every characetr during their up b. and unless they have super armour. they die.

including metaknight.



edit: yes dtaunt still spikes if you sldie taunt, just like in melee wavetauntspiking(my favourite)

any otehr questions about the infamous taunt spike? i know all =P

With this information, it seems that dtaunt is vastly better than the dtilt spike, with possibly a few exceptions. I'll edit the topic name to better fit how the discussion will change. "Exploring ways to better use the dtaunt spike"

we've got the spike through the special stages (as discussed earlier), let's see if there are any other practical uses.

I know it spikes through platforms, so this could be used on stages like Smashville or Delfino Plaza that have platforms hanging over open air (aka- no stage=spike from platform). I think smashville will be less situational, and could possibly be used as a super stylish edgeguard. But in general i think the uses on the platform are less than on the stage (that lets you spike through)

anywho. other uses for the taunt spike?

LOl when facing pple with crappy or predictable recovery. stand at the edge and spamm d-taunt then they get scared and move away from the ledge, and eitehr die, or make it esy to fair or dair spike.

uhmm what else...i d-taunted>firepunch once...
team combos like dedede luigi spike combo thinger
anotehr cool place to platform spike with it is on frigat orpheon.
i uno tehres a whole bunch of random crap.

i spiked with d-tilt today too. the vid was to logn to record but what i did was i stood ON the edge, turn my back and then used it and it spiked. but it was weak. but the lack of ending lag makes it easier to spam if you miss lol.

thats pretty cool. i never got to test the dtaunt on anybody. it seems like it woulnt hit at all. any pointers on what situatiouns its good for?

well, for starts, using on on certain chars is less usefull beacuse of how they recover

people like meta and kirby can (if the survive the spike sumhow,) just float back up.

Others, like link ike are really hard to hit becasue their upb moves have big hitboxes and you can't connect with them very well if there coming up from underneath.

pple liek yoshi, is VERY situational, most of his jump has super armour,a nd im assuming this will apply to the taunt aswell.

so it is situational, but be creative, and throw it in when they don't expect it, or cannot do a thing about it.(ie, when there falling after the up b is used anbd their trying to reach the ledge)

i find people with predictable, or crappy recoverys alot ewasier to taunt spike.

heres my list of people i recomend trying it on ion battle
1. cap falcon
ganondorf
fox+falco (only for their up b. generaly press dtaunt after they charge it[depends on location of course]
luigi
mario
zero suit samus
diddykong
pit
snake
peach(especialy if shes just floating
ice climbers( hitting both is SO LULZ but doens't usualy happen. aim for the real one)
ness
sonic
lucas
rob
jiggs



thos are the esier ones id say, witch is alot, and although it is posible and ive done it on almost every char during a match (lest for bowser DK ike....yeah..eventually)
OH BTW. taunt spike has NO effect on giga bowser and i don't think on warioman either.
