Escaping Ganondorf's first dsmash hit

I just played around with the Ganon CPU, and when he once downsmashed me (I think I had not more than 50% - I was playing either Falcon or Marth), I somehow escaped it magically. After the setup-hit, it almost seemed like I wavedashed out of it, but about 2x as far as my normal wavedash. Yet it didn't seem like a techroll.

I tried to do it again, but I failed. I think that when I got hit, I DIed to the left with the Control Stick and hit R.
Does anyone know something about this?

I believe it's a crouch cancel. The sliding you saw was just momentum from the first hit.

Crouch cancel, but hold away as well (down and away). It's been a long time since i've tested it but it definitely works at low%

 

[Oracle]

You can also survival DI and it will almost always miss. Try and d smash a level 9 with ganon. They always survival DI and it never works on them.
