Escaping combos

Hey, just a quick introduction, my friends and I play this every once in a while, we're not that good, but we're not bad either.

Usually as it went, we would all win fairly equally, except I usually won more (They held down their shields too much, and I played as kirby, and he has plenty of shield breaking combos :D). Things were going well. Then one of my friends picked up jigglypuff, and he 0 to deaths me every stock, and I can't beat him. I'm getting pretty frustrated, as anyone knows, losing every match loses its fun after a while.

His combo consists of d-air to the ground, up tilt (repeat as necessary), jump and rest. I can't find anything to do about it either. I can't DI out of it (unless I'm doing it wrong), and the hitstun from the up tilt usually gives me no chance to escape (some times, he'll mess up, but I wouldn't plan on it).

How can I escape or counter this combo, usually, if he is above me at any point, I have to get out ASAP, or else I get combo'd to death. (If character choice change is necessary, who should I play as?)

Thanks for all the help, and maybe I won't lose every match :D

Learn to properly slide DI the Dair so that you end up in front of Jiggs, in order to avoid Utilt. Before even doing that, you should avoid AT ALL COST being underneath a Jigglypuff.

disproving determinism
1) Don't get hit by that. Haven't tested but I'd think kirby's utilt would beat jiggly's dair. Otherwise dodge.

2) Read the stickies and stuff about DIing because you can definitely DI the drill

Matches against Jigglypuff are an exercise in not getting hit by the ****ing drill. So as others have said, don't get hit by the ****ing drill. Utilt should help a lot with this, although you should be aware that it does not form a comprehensive shield of protection around Kirby. Also keep in mind that I can imagine little more boring in this game than a utilt camping Kirby vs a dair camping Jiggly.

For now you can probably DI out of it, but at some point your opponent will figure out how to follow your DI and then you will be back to square one.

That usually happens >_<

Thanks for the help though, I'll try it out next time we play.

What are you doing being drilled? Kirby has twice as many drills as Jigglypuff and you should be using them on him rather than the other way around. Work on movement and positioning so that you're the one above jiggly

When I play Kirby vs. Jigglypuff I use bair when I know Jiggs will try to drill me. That or I avoid it and maybe follow it with a counterattack.
Also, learning both to DI and to combo Jigglypuff will help a lot. Now, I'm just trying to guess your level of play, therefore I might be wrong, but if you find so much trouble against 0-to-death combos it might mean you were not used to them before. Therefore, you might not be used to z-canceling consistently, which will really change the whole game for you.
Again, I'm just guessing, but most Jigglypuffs I play try to drill me after their recovery. If that's your case, then learn to space it: it's very easy to punish (b-air or fsmash for example) leaving Jigglypuff with few jumps for their next recovery.

Pick Luigi, he pwns jiggly easily. Do a dair to up+b and uair to up+b and she is dead in nothing.

I don't think that is actually true... Kirby should try to get above Jiggz and air camp her.
It is true. If Kirby is on the ground and Puff attacks from above then utilt. If she attacks you on the ground with her silly weak ground game you can fair, dtilt, bair heck even a well spaced fsmash. She sucks against Kirby. Kirby has no reason to camp against Puff.

Going above her when she is in the air IS an option though. But when that happens good Puffs likes to fast fall and land asap lol.

Don't get hit by the dair in the first place. If you know a dair is coming (and you should, why else would jiggs fly high) just run away and attack when jiggs lands. If the jiggs dairs in shorthops she is less predictable, but then you can easily counter with any random attack. Just try to avoid getting hit rather than escape combo's, 0-to-death combo's are jigglypuffs main strength.

Jake is definitely dropping Yoshi
You can use mario and Luigi's upsmash. A well-timed up-smash out-prioritizes puff's Dair, so he gets hit instead. If puff is at mid to high damage, it's the loss of a stock.

You can pick DK and shield the Dair, then grab puff and throw her. Up-tilt, up-air, and up-smash all have more range than puff's Dair.

You can pick Link and use up-air. As a puff player myself, this used to be one of the most annoying moves a Link player could use against me (still annoying now, but I know how to get around it).

As Samus, just do up-B. You are invincible during your up-B, so you will hit puff.

As Captain Falcon, just run out of the way, then punish her landing lag (grab, up-smash, F-smash... Falcon Punch?) Also up-air can defeat puff's down air.

As ness... up-air does beat puff's Dair, but it is not the most reliable move (unless you're against a very predictable puff). Up-tilt can also beat Dair, but once again, it's not the most reliable move. Both, if overused, can make you very predictable.

As Yoshi... eggs.

As Kirby... up-tilt does out-prioritize... but it would be better to move out of the way and punish her missed Dair.

As Fox... just run away and lazer spam lol

As Pikachu... up-air.

As Puff... well...

Do the same s*** to him.
With any character, you can shield to block the Down-air.

There are many ways around the down-air. It may look annoying at first, but if that's the only attack he uses, then just use one of these strategies. Some are much better than others... while some he could find a way around and beat you (especially if you become predictable with how you play against him.
