Edgehogging with Turn-around Shine

So typically, when I have to run across the stage to edgehog, I shine and turn around right at the edge so that I slide off and grab it. I'm noticing, though, that a lot of people talk about turning around in shine and wavedashing to grab. Or falling off the edge and firefoxing to grab. Or adding yet another step with shining to turn around and then illusioning/firefoxing to grab.

So all i'm wondering is: what's the point? There something wrong with my approach or are these just tricks to look fancy?

Shine stalls you in the air a bit usually so it takes a little longer to grab the edge. Most of it is to be flashy though.

Some are just easier to do consistently, faster, or can protect you better as you're trying to get to the ledge.

Ah. Firefoxing to protect yourself seems kinda situational, but I guess I see the advantage.

Some of the alternatives just seemed slower to me (or about the same, with more effort). I haven't even bothered learning to waveshine, though, so no wonder.

Those maneuvers can be situationally useful.

shine->turnaround->wavedash backwards. This is best used near an edge, when the shine doesn't knock them off the stage. If it does, forget the turnaround and run off and shine again. If not, this helps you quickly get your back turned and lets you zone them with bair. It has enough priority and range to rack up damage and/or knock them off. Shine/buffer rolls to protect you if you miss any of your spaced bairs.
Quite the kill, I'd say.

You really have to learn to waveshine, or just consider using a different character. His shine is the definition of his brokeness.

Yeah, I just started getting into advanced play a couple weeks ago (when I learned Pound would only be a couple hours away). It's not that i'm opposed to waveshining or anything, I just haven't practiced. Took me a while just to wavedash without holding in L, and twice as long to fast fall an approaching Nair (used to Fair like a b***h).

I'm gettin' there. =p

Get used to the right control scheme early. Don't learn to wavedash with just the control stick and a trigger button. It really holds you back.

I find containing all the movement to one hand easier. All I have to do is click X and R at almost the exact same time and I wavedash. Using L seems unnecessarily complicated to me.

Eh, just seems easier for me to use my left hand for L and joystick. I do enough with my right. If I switched i'd get OCD about it.

what do ppl think about shine turnaround SH>FF>ledgegrab?

I like it as opposed to the WD. I mean I think the turnaround waveshine >FF ledge grab is the absolute fastest but I feel like I cant rely on myself to do that in tourney successfully at a high enough rate so I do the former. instead i need to grab the ledge fast. sometimes i also do turnaround,SHL(ledge cancelled) > FF >ledgegrab as well

Using R to WD sounds just as strange to me as SHFFRing.
Lol I SHFFR and WD with X+R >.<

I can't seem to get the timing down for the shine->turn around->wavedash back edgehog. I mean, I can waveshine fine, I think I have the timing wrong for the analog stick for the turning around part. Any tips?

i think shine turnaround wd is the absolute fastest and isnt that hard to do, just learn it..
its not learning but more like, executing it successfully and PERFECTLY at a high rate under tourney conditions. Its quite diff than learning, but i suppose ur right, if I had perfect tech skill theres no question as to what i'd choose to do

You can just start the shine facing the other direction, just press down only 15 degrees off in the direction u want

I also had some trouble waveshining backwards at first because I was sliding the ctrl stick from the shine position to the WD angle rather than resetting it to a neutral position before WDing. This usually caused the laggy turnaround for me which was annoying for following up combos.

Not sure which part ur having trouble with, sorry if i couldnt help.
