Ebay Controller-Buying

Without going into too much detail, I recently loaned all three my controllers to the friend of a friend, who's now denying that they were ever mine and refusing to give them back. After my first plan (turning into Kirby and Utilting him seven or eight times) failed, I decided to buy some new ones.

Ebay seems like the way to go, but, N64 joysticks being what they are, I'm a little nervous about buying from people who might not have a great understanding of what constitutes a mint condition controller; I obviously don't want to end up with messed-up pads. I mostly play KB online, so it's not urgent, but having controllers is nice, and I keep telling myself that one of these days I'm going to make the switch. Any advice? Any people I shouldn't buy from? What's a good price?

Also, This guy has more than 10 "new" controllers for a pretty cheap price, but he says not to connect them to any adapters. Why? Is he talking out of his hat? Also, he's from China, so I'm automatically suspicious =p

that controller is a third party reproduction.
might not work with adapters same way hori minipad does not.
maybe it does not use the pcb of a genuine n64 pad and then it will not work with adapters.
i would not recommned getting one of these if you are planning on connecting it to the pc.

It looks like those aren't Nintendo brand. I didn't know they produced knockoffs for the N64 controller, that's the first time I've seen one.

I'm not going to say anything against it, it might work exactly like a Nintendo N64 controller.

Why are u suspicious of china? chinese are plain crazy, every slave employee work 30 hours a day producing over 10 times the amount that a normal human would do, and they earn much less. No wonder everything is hella cheap

I am not being racist in any way, but just quoting something someone told me (don't remember where from), which may help you.

Some people (especially Chinese sellers) raise their satisfaction rating so that people think buying stuff from them is safe, when it is not. Looking at that, he has a 99% rating, which means he must have had a very high number of positive feedbacks, with very few negatives. However, if almost all of the positive feedbacks were rigged, then his actual rating may be a significant amount lower.

Just a warning... I heard it from someone... and it's basically why I never trust Ebay or any online shopping site. I'd rather see what I'm buying before I buy it.

Just so you know, I've bought some n64 controllers of non-nintendo brand (eaxus if anyone know it) and they were terrible.

1. It can't connect to my usb adapter.

2. They don't seem to have a deadzone and the joystick is not precise at all. So when I crouched, the char jumped for example.

3. Out of the three, the only one whose joystick seemed correct had the z button broken after a few games.

Conclusion: I was pissed and now I still don't have any new controller. =)

So be careful when you want to buy new controllers of non generic brand.

edit: Blue Yoshi you racist what are you talking about????? >=(

As far as EBay feedback ratings are concerned, I'd say <98.7% positive is bad, any higher is good.

Sample size is important too.

How would you suggest I do that? Beating the **** out of him was my first reaction, but he'd probably phone the police or some god**** thing. I yelled at him for about 15 minutes and that's pretty much all I can do.

edit: also, stop flaming me. It's not nice.

I actually ordered the exact controller linked a few days ago mostly for kicks just to see if it works with an adapter, and if not, then, hey, I have another controller (which hopefully plays like a genuine controller) since the rest of mine are getting a bit crummy.

I'll be sure to let you all know when it (hopefully) comes in on Monday!

But as for buying genuine controllers, does nobody have any idea? I heard Nintendo used to continue selling them up until a couple years ago... Might be worth a shot to try contacting them; who knows, maybe they've still got a few left in stock!

And if not controllers, then what about genuine joysticks? Something like that would be just as good, since I'm sure that's the main reason any of you would want a new controller.

I sure as hell am not buying a used controller.

I strongly suggest that you do not buy a knockoff nintendo controller.
I bought one online and there was no way i could play smash with it..I had
the same problem as sangoku.
By the way..Make The Switch!! I didnt think i would ever get off keyboard either.
but if you really commit to it and deal with being a nub fora week or two..youll be
playing better than you do now on kb with controller. Plus theres things you can do on
controller that are impossible on kb

They're still made in Japan, so you could probably try an import website and buy some legit ones through them.

buy from local thrift shops or electronics stores. a reasonable price for a controller with a decent stick is 20 dollars. if the stick is bad you can buy a replacement online for less than ten dollars.

I bought one on eBay who was claimed new and cost like nothing. It was a total disaster and the joystick lived its own life. But I know a guy who bought a bit expensive, from a top rated seller, who was unopened, still in the box, so it was never used. And it worked on any adapter. So that's what I'm going to do. Just pay a little extra to be on the safe side. It might work with a cheap one also, but its gambling.

i bought all of mine through ebay. they were almost like new and i think i paid like 15-20 bux for each. but if u have a controller already, i would suggest just buying the joystick replacement. i would also try thrift shops, flea markets, gameshops, etc. if ur not confident with online shopping.

I got lucky and bought 3 n64 trollers, 2 oem gc troller, 2 ko gc trollers and a ps2 troller for 25 shipped. The 64 trollers are all great, except one of them is coming apart at the hinges LOL. avoid ko trollers, check local used/vintage game stores, thrift stores, goodwill, pawn shops. I've seen them at all of those places. 10-20 $ usually

Thing is, I have no way of proving they're mine. I could get some friends to vouch for me, I guess, but if the fuzz get involved, they'll call up the Illegal Emulation Task Force and I'll get sent to prison for the next 500 years.

The IETF exists. You know it does.

Thanks for the advice, guys, I'm pretty close to sealing a deal controller-wise for 3 like-new controllers at a very reasonable price.

Here's hoping you find some new controllers, and while you're at it, find some new friends. I mean what kind of friend lends something they borrowed and doesn't get it back to them because some other friend took them?

If it doesn't work out, you could always, as said, buy a little more expensive one. A great controller is worth some of your lunch money. But if your deal works, ofc its better.
