EA is getting rid of online passes

It looks like publishes are finally cutting this "war on used games" **** out. EA is apparently ditching the "online pass" model for all future games. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the nature of online passes, the basic gist is that if you buy a game new you get a little slip of paper with a code on it that allows you to access all of the online features of the game, however if you buy the game used then you're not able to access any of the online features it may have.

EA still doesn't want to admit they did it to try and do away with used games by saying that online passes were to "package a full menu of online content and services." But hey, at least they've wizened up.

At least EA is listening to customers. Took them awhile, but hey, a new gen is coming up, might as well start fresh.

They got rid of online passes because the XBO is an online pass. :/

It all makes sense now!

Poor GameStop . . . the Xbone really screwed them over. I wouldn't be surprised if GameStop decides to not even sell Xbone games.

Or maybe EA pursuaded MS and Sony to go hard on DRM. I cannot see EA abandoning it. And I really have nothing much against the company. I just know something doesn't add up with that decision.

EA is in no position to bargain with the likes of Sony and Microsoft about DRM. EA has been getting ripped on by the gaming community for awhile now, so maybe they want to start making themselves look good for the new generation.

If people start trusting them more, more people will support them.

Well, if you think about it, Microsoft has yet to give a straight answer about DRM and used games. You would think Sony would jump in and attack Microsoft about DRM. They've been very very quiet about it. I would hope that isn't the case but it certainly is concerning. Publishers, not only EA, must have persuaded Sony and MS to have some type of DRM for their consoles.

I guess we'll find out in two weeks.

I think Sony not jumping in and attack Microsoft on all the bad XboxONE choices has to do with a bit of how it'd be beating a dead horse, and how well...they're probably busy counting their future money.

Sony could make a whole marketing campaign about how the PS4 actually play games, and how MS is so hyper competitive that they NEED TO COMPETE WITH OUR OWN TELEVISIONS!
