I've heard conflicting arguments on how to make Link's dtilt spike. I want to know for sure, I know it's hard to sweetspot it right. The two most common things I've heard are;

Tip of the sword
Must hit the opponets feet (head if he's falling)

I can make it spike from time to time, but I'm never really sure what causes it. I've been able to execute the reverse spike once (while the opponet rolls onto the stage and you face away from the ledge) but those conditions are insane.

The spike hitbox is an outline of Link's sword and his entire body. If you ever hit beyond the hitbox (with the exception of Links' body) it won't work.

lol It's our fault sasook. @_@ We brought this upon our selves. We brought this upon ourselves and the Link boards! We shall feel the fiery wrath of spam and flame, molding our post count, repeating the same thing over and over again. I blame YouTube.

don't be so happy about this. the dtilt is a terrible move in general and it almost never connects correctly T_T

it doesn't spike at the tip -_________-
it has NOTHING TO DO WITH THEIR HEAD OR FEET. THAT IS JUST SILLY.
You have to hit with the right hitbox of the d-tilt which is Link's body, not his sword.
THE HITBOX OF THE ATTACK IS WHAT MATTERS. NOT THE PART OF THE OPPONENTS BODY.
Like, Luigi would use his damaging taunt, kick you in the balls and you would be sent flying off the stage? no.

You know guys I might not be a *cough"pro"cough* but you don't have to bash that I was asking a simple question. I know that Link's meteor smash is incredibly situational, and that it's a helluva lot easier to kill by alternative means. For Christ's sake people knew that Link's dtilt could meteor before it was ever showcased on YouTube, get over yourselves.

Calm down. I don't see how you were getting bashed.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's just whenever I've tested it (which is a lot) it's always been at those points. I know it sounds ridiculous, it's probably because the spiking hitbox and the.....upwards hitbox?....both hit the opponent, and the upwards overrides the spike whenever it's not the "head and feet" or whatever.

As for it not being the tip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlGbz-Me0Rs at 1:00 (thanks Arkive, you're the man, as usual)

I'm guessing you have to hit with the underside of the sword?
I've had stuff like that happen before, but I could never be sure.
The head/feet thing is a good way to teach you how to hit them relatively to the spiking hitbox, but that isn't the reason why it spikes. It wouldn't work for every character either, like Kirby.. who's all head and no feet lol
