Doc's cape isn't as useful as Mario's but it still helps. Doc's DownB doesn't give him as much height, but it doesn't make him lose any either, so it works ok as a stall and to get the little extra DI when recovering.

If you do it fast enough, and push the control stick towards the edge you get a lil horizontal height!

The horizontal is what is important. Cape is mainly for stalling or to avoid edgeguarding. It is useful against hoggers. Cape -> nado near the edge can sometimes force a hogger back onto the stage where you can then sweetspot.

yes it helps alot but only if you know how to use it

1. first application you get hit by lets say an f.smash doesnt matter who but it hits you far your at high damage and your di is good so you dont go further then you have to heres where you do it while di ing it towards the stage after you start you will gain horizontal movement as well as vertical if u do it perfect which cause your higher you will now get even more horizontal movement now u have pretty much one cape , dj, and up b or air dodge
dont waste your double jump u can get hit on your way back to the stage and still make it back if u save your dj

2. rare but say someone comes jumps off the stage to finish you off falcon, sometimes you can go from under then and get a bair in behind them but sometime your down b stall will knock them away too your no a sitting duck if your far enough away from the ledge obviously this has alot of exceptions

3. you make it too the edge but theres someone holding it down b can stall to where if your close enough u can hit them off, scare them to get on the stage once again very situational against good players cause most will be using some kinda ledge stall and with that they might be able to let go and hit you cause they keep regrabbing and have invincibility

other then that id say never use it on the stage but definetly get it into your game cause a perfect one can save that stock you have and may win you the game with the help of everything else doc can live a very very long time with good di and though his get back to the stage game isnt the best you should have all you oponents saying "why wont you die"

to help this i also suggest being able to ledge tech, droppping down or air dodge if you do the wall jump you have to do up b again in which in both cases you should be dead from the other player

oh and pilling on your way back is good too dont spam it though alot of moves just go through pills

Doesn't get much height? If you tap it fast enough, he can go pretty high...about 1/2-2/3 the height of his ^B. Mind you, you have to tap it very fast, but I've seen some Doc players get up there with the tornado.

The lag after the nado makes you lose pretty much all of it, unlike Luigi's.

If you can mash B fast enough you'll be able to gain a fair vertical distance, all horizontal distance will be the same no matter how much you mash. Practice mashing B on a flat surface and then jump after you start to fall, if you do it fast enough you'll be able to jump before landing again.

Well to start the point of the down b in Doc mario's recovery is that it is the start to the four part jump back onto the stage

Once your done flying back from a smash attack or w/e the combo goes like this
Down b (mash b as much as you can to get all the height)
Cape (which is interchangeable with the down b you can do either first)
Second jump (if you have it)
Up B ( obviously always last step)

The second jump coming after the cape and down b is the super important part it will make you get alot closer than if you do the down b after you use ur second jump.

If this was already obtained knowledge then im sorry for my unnecsary restatement
