Howdy all, I've been brushing up on my marth skills and I realized that I'm still unable to do a double fair, so I was wondering, does it matter whether i use the C-stick or forward A?

Thanks in Advance,

I'd recommend using the A button, as its easier to slide your thumb over to it after you short hop, regardless of whether you use X or Y to jump.
Also, try using the search engine to find answers to your questions before posting a new thread about it.

I personally use the C stick which is easier, but you can use forward + A. But i claw though, it makes using the C stick faster and easier.

I use A for the first fair and the c-stick for the second, but a lot of people find this inconvenient for their fingers. A lot of people use the Z button for the first hit.

*sigh* Smash Childs and Smash n00bs are the same thing...

I use C-Stick for all aerials but Nair. You shouldn't even have to post this topic. The way your do Double Fair is based purely on your on preference and how comfortable you feel with one way. I use C-stick for the infinite control I have, but you use your own way.

I use "X"," Z" (like a JC grab but different timing) for first fair and "A" for the second.

I tried using the C-Stick for a long *** time because everyone on the board used to say it was the best. Then I switched to A and found it to be much much easier. It's all up to you. Hell, I know some people who do it with Z ;D

i've actually gotten a little accustomed to short hopping with the control stick. Timing the double fair is really easy that way. I don't pride myself for having fast hands, and i have no trouble when i sh with the stick and use A for both fairs. Unfortunately, you have to press the control stick pretty lightly, and in a pressuring situation that's not gonna happen.

I use the Control Stick, because the C Stick on my controller's a bit broken (only detects up and down). If you get the timing on the control stick down first, you can time the C-Sticking more effectively. However, you can't hit with the tipper as often if you Control Stick it(which is integral, because it keeps the opponent up in the air).

On a side note, didn't Ayra from FE4 Seisen no Keifu invent the Ken Combo with her Ryuuseiken/Astra Skill which allows her to hit up to 5 times in a row? Both the SSB combo and the FE skill seem awfully similar...

all comes down to whatever you find lets your fingers get where they need to be faster, but for me it's c-stick all the way

I find that using the X button to jump and the A button to use both of the Fairs works great for me. The C-stick is a bit too much of a gap for my thumb to make from the X button without messing up the timing, or making a mistake because I'm trying to move too fast. The X and A button are nice and close, so my lazy fingers don't have to move very far.

Of course, if you claw, than that's a totally different story...

... That was pretty rude.
He did answer the question.. He stated his preference and how he does the double fair. People like you detract from any productive thread discussion. (Aka if we still had rep, this post would deserve some neg repping.)

And seriously, this topic has been posted so many times.. i don't think ANYONE read's fastfox's EYE'M NOT DAT DUM rules for posting intelligently. Seriously search function =[[

Not trying to hate anyone or act moderator, i just dislike kajitora's post, and i think topics like these should really be closed.. since it's all preference and the question is so redundant (this is like threads asking "HOW DO I MOONWALK? I DON'T USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION SO TELL ME!")

And while i'm here, the question Cstick or forward-A is purely preference. Some people are more used to flicking the c stick after jump, some are used to sliding the control stick and a after the jump. I personally use the A for the first, cstick for the second, because double fair can change into sh fair-uair or sh fair-bair easily with the cstick. Your choice.

edit: I must be a noob too for not reading through the entire topic ><
So i realized that kajitora already apologized somewhat, and smash G O D has already made my point on preference, and the guy that had 5 posts had my preference too :p
Still, this just shows the utter uselessness of a topic like this.

ps to thread maker: don't type (noob question), it makes you look silly

I love how people are like "use the search function." blah blah.. of course the search engine on this site is quite horrible & I can rarely find the thread I'm looking for (I'm probably a bad searcher).

Anyways I use to have a lot of trouble with this tech. The main problem for a majority of people is that they don't attack fast enough after there initial jump. (the first swipe must be a rising Fair)

I am in a habit of actually tapping or pushing the buttons on the controller. An easy way to attack right out of the jump is to slide off of the corner of Y or X. Here are the two ways to do a 2x SH Fair:

1) Slide off the bottom of X, tap Forward Z twice. This way is useful bc/ using the Z auto l-cancels the 2nd landing Fair.

2) Slide your thumb off of Y and tap Forward A twice.

Once the first Fair comes out succesfully, it is reletively easy for executing the 2nd one. Hope this helps.

Choosing A/Z/C-stick for the first and/or second fair is not just a matter of preference. The C-stick is the better choice overall because it gives 100% control over spacing and timing. An important aspect of the double fair is to get as many tippered fairs as possible. The tippered fair hits the opponent slightly upwards and slows down their fall slightly so that marth can get in more fairs and eventually end with a dair.

It is important not to move forward as much if the opponent is at a low percentage, while at higher percentages marth will need to even run before doing the short hop fair.

It's not a matter of preference. C-stick is the most accurate, consistent way to do the SHDF with marth.

yeah, i used to have issues with it but i decided on the a button. just hit a as fast possible after short hopping then then next A is almost at your leisure

it is not preference!!!!!!!!!

UMBC Super Smasher was right

USE C-STICK FOR YOUR LAST AIR!!!!!!!

it helps your spacing (you can do a fair while falling backwards.........) this spacing can help keep combos going and set up for sweet spots (tipper)

does anyone not agree?
(please explain why...)

Some people can do them both with C-stick, especially if you use the claw method, but in my experience, use A for the first one then go to the C-Stick (or just hit A again if you're comfortable doing that) but definitely start off using A for the first one until you get the rhythm down, then you can see if you're fast enough to move to the C-stick.

I always use A for the first hit and I will change between Z and the C-stick on the second hit. If I'm comboing them with the second fair I use the c-stick. If they're shielding or I just need to stall them long enough to land (with me on the defensive) I use the Z button so I have I can hit them with the first hit of the nair and get a free grab. It varries a little (and I mean very little) on the situation you're in. Stick with the c-stick and you'll be fine, I just like that L-Canceled Nair.

Using C stick for both is the best way and not as entirely hopeless as some people make it out to be. It just takes practice like anything, eventually your muscle memory will get so used to the route from the y/x button to the c stick that it will feel like second nature. I play falco as my main and alternate with fox a lot (yeah space animals go figure) so I might have found the transition to marth a bit easier (in terms of technical skill his grab game spacing etc are a whole nother skill set to learn) but it still took me some time to learn how to c stick double fair but it is doable and by far the best method, when I do it with A I feel sloppy and aprehensive that I'm going to get grabbed.

The harder of the 2 directions IMO is trying to go from jumping with Y to C sticking right since your thumb doesn't have any momentum in that direction because you move at a diagonal to reach the C stick, getting down double fairs on the left is much easier with the C stick so that will take some time.

Also the suggestion that you use the control stick to jump for it is interesting and would make C sticking your fairs easier most likely though I've never tried it myself just because I'm not comfortable jumping with the control stick. All in all I highly suggest you force yourself to learn to double fair with the C stick, but until then maybe you shouldn't worry that much about this technique since there is plenty in just remember training yourself to have fast thumbs will improve your game with all characters.
