Don't expect announcements to just flood in

Remember when the Brawl trailer was revealed in 2006? We got 9 characters Mario, Link Kirby, Pikachu, Meta Knight, Pit, Zamus, Wario and Solid Freaking Snake. The Dojo as a blog didn't exist until May the next year and Ike wasn't announced until the first of August.

I know we're working on a smaller timescale here but keep this in mind.

Well, in comparison SSB4 has been in development longer than Brawl had at its reveal. On the other hand, SSB4 is going to have less newcomers. I'm on the Nintendo Direct train, I'm only expecting character trailers from there, most likely one per Direct, the rest is just gonna be these random couple of images that Sakurai has tossed our way.

Sakurai is really reaching out and answering questions this time AND he's giving us plenty of screenshots. Todays photo even shows off a new attack for Bowser.

I don't think it's new attack since it should be end animation of Bowser's Grab (Side B) but I could be wrong.

Sakurai said something like...he wouldnt release certain content because people were spoiled by the subspace cutscenes being uploaded on youtube, I think he was talking about Wolf, TLink and Jiggs, so he could be talking about just unlockables...or he wants to keep alot of stuff secret? Who knows.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Wikipedia isn't that bad of a source. In fact, if it doesn't know, we probably don't either.

That lists all known Nintendo Directs including ones that have been announced but haven't happened yet (which currently is 0). Just check that page whenever you want to find out. I'd recommend only paying attention to the directs that happen in Japan, North America, and Europe. They aren't going to announce new information to Japan only. Also, regardless of when the next direct is, I'm not convinced we'll get new information at all of them. But I would be surprised if they didn't throw us a bone every few months or so... even if it is just veterans. We want to know about them too darn it!

Sakurai said that they will not be using cutscenes in the new single player mode because people can simply go online and watch them there instead. I agree with Sakurai on most things, but this is the stupidest thing I have ever heard any developer say. It's not the exact same thing, but it's like saying "We wrote a book, but we removed all the pages that you could preview on Amazon and Google." I personally hope he's just looking for an excuse for him and his staff to not waste a lot of time developing a story for Super Smash Bros. and also not put the 3DS version in risk of being over storage capacity.

Anyway, I am curious as to when the next update is going to be. They already went through the effort of putting a website up that obviously is designed to hold more content. The website looks like it's part of a timely schedule, so to me it would not make much sense If they threw it up but didn't plan to add significant content until a whole year had passed.

I am inclined to agree with you, however, I can't remember what the pre-dojo site looked like last time? Did it, or did it not have a similar layout, including the updates thing?

Looking at the chart I'm actually having a hard time finding a regular cadence for the worldwide directs. It seems like sometimes they do one the next month, sometimes they skip a month, and sometimes they skip two months. Honestly, from what I'm seeing every other month might be more accurate, but there definitely is precedent for once every three months. Regardless I wouldn't expect on until at least August.

EDIT: I just realized Wikipedia chart doesn't list months where no directs happened. Thus it is worth noting that they have skipped 3 months before. That mostly seemed to happen when the Direct was newer though, so I'm inclined to think those are outliers.

It had a page for the characters and a kind of, history of the development (for lack of better words). It didn't barely any info on it.

As for the next announcement, I don't expect one until September/October.
