The Dojo’s about to start up again, and soon we’ll all be reveling in Sakurai’s latest news on everyone’s favourite game. But there are a few things in particular I’d really like to know that I figure I might share with you, since it’s been so lonely here with the Dojo’s doors shut. See if you agree with me, disagree with me, or think I’m a lunatic (or, all of the above)

<!--more-->

I know people are going to agree with me on this one. The thing I want to know, first, most and as soon as possible: a PAL release date.
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/micwant1ab4.png" alt="Why won't someone &lt;em&gt;please&lt;/em&gt; think of the PAL-dren?" /></p>
What’s PAL you may ask?
<blockquote>In the 1950s, when the Western European countries were planning to establish colour television, they were faced with the problem that the already existing American NTSC standard wouldn’t fit the 50 Hz AC frequency of the European power grids. In addition to that NTSC demonstrated several weaknesses, including colour tone shifting under less-than-ideal transmission conditions. For these reasons the development of the SECAM and PAL standards began. The goal was to provide a colour TV standard with a picture frequency of 50 fields per second (50 Hertz), and sporting a better colour picture than NTSC.
<p align="right"><em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL">Wikipedia: PAL</a></em></p>
</blockquote>
These days however the overwhelming majority of TV’s in PAL territories support NTSC’s 60 Hz picture, thus making the need for a PAL system almost obsolete, but region locking is still around, meaning an Aussie Wii can’t play American games (and vice versa).

There are many excuses as to why PAL territories get the games later than our American fellows, and language translation is the main one, since there’s a number of different languages spoken in Europe. Nintendo of Australia (Referred to onwards as NoAus) doesn’t do much localisation, since both Europe and Australia are both PAL, and usually just uses the version worked on by Nintendo of Europe (referred as NoE) Language translation is highly debatable as a reason for delays, mainly due to the sheer inconsistencies between games. Metroid Prime 3 was heavily text based and came out in PAL territories only 2 weeks after it did in the US, yet for Brawl, we’re looking at maybe after July for a fighting game? Ridiculous!

The second thing I’d like to know about is the Smash 64 unlockables, and their appearance in Brawl. Jigglypuff has been traditionally the first unlocked character. Is she still in, or were the naysayers correct in thinking that 3 new Pokemon characters pushed Jiggs out?
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/micwant3iq2.png" alt="When asked if he'd be using his knee in Brawl, he replied by grabbing our reporter close and yelling 'Chk YEHS!'" /></p>
What about Captain Falcon? Ever since Samurai Goroh was shown to be an assist trophy (the first actually) we’ve all been awaiting his arrival, especially as he was promoted to a Starter in Melee. Will he retain his moves? What about his final smash? (The Blue Falcon perhaps?) Curious is Luigi’s moveset. Since Mario’s old Down Special has been moved and replaced with F.L.U.D.D, will Luigi’s be similarly replaced with the Poltergust 3000?

And of course the whole Ness/Lucas thing too.

The third thing I’d like to know about is clones, and if they’re in Brawl. Some people seem against clones, which is a bit of a shame to me, as all of Melee’s clones (with the exception of Luigi of course) were characters that had to be left out due to time constraints (like Ganon) or just quick and easy designs to fit existing movesets (Young Link, Pichu).
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/micwant2bl9.png" alt="Silly Electrode, don't you know they expand Smash, making it better for all?" /></p>
Why do I care about these leftover copycats? Because they give a new character a chance. And the more characters, the deeper the game gets, with more strategies to work out with characters with tweaked and changed movesets. For example, a move might be able to edgeguard Captain Falcon, but might not work on Ganondorf due to his slower fall time and extra jump from his Down Special.

Anywho, that’s what I’m looking forward to hearing on the Dojo in the future. What about you?

How about you all buy 1 american wii and 1 american copy of brawl and put it in the center of australia?

So we can all share it.

Although i guess it'd get awful hot out there...i'd better keep it at my place :p

Im actually very worried about clones as two of my favorite characters(Doc and Falco) are clones. I understand that they are similar to the main characters but the differences are vast enough to give them vastly different strategies. Ok, not Doc/Mario but Falco/Fox, Gannon/CF and Roy/Marth are so different enough to the point where they really are just characters with similar animations rather than clones. And they also manage to advance the games depth as Mic said because more characters equals more strategies. These characters NEED to be in the game, for all of us that took the time out to actually master them. Except Pichu, **** him.

Young Link and Pichu were too close for comfort, I pray they don't return.

Fox and Falco were fine, it would be a terrible decision to not have Falco back, I'm not just saying that because alot of people use him, heck I prefer Fox. It's not like it doesn't make sense for these two to fight like eachother.

Ganondorf is gonna be re-vamped, I really wanna know what went through their heads when they gave he and Falcon such similar moves...

Doc should be an alternate costume for Mario, only differences in moves being a white cape instead of the yellow (not a big deal though) and pills over fireballs (big deal)

In terms of "clones" the ones that were least like clones were Mario/Luigi, I expect like everyone else Luigi will keep his old moveset but gain the Pultergeist 3000 as his vB to differ even more from Mario and F.L.U.D.D, think about it, F.L.U.D.D. pushes people away for no damage, the Poltergeist 3000 could suck them in for no damage! While we are on Luigi I would love a "Mr. L" alternate costume. In my opinion these two are the same as Fox and Falco, they SHOULD fight like one another and they have enough differences to the point where they are not clones.

/end vent.

They had run out of time/decided not to use Gannondorf and then when making clones noticed that Gannons Model looked very much like Captain Falcons and so...

Luigi would be Mario's worst enemy.

Mario squirts water at Luigi, Luigi sucks the water up. XD
Lol.

I guessed it was something like that =\.

I pray he finally gets his own unique moves in Brawl, he definately deserves that much. :ohwell:

I want a PAL date noiw plz.

As for Ganon, I'm a lone soldier that wants him to stay a clone, simply because it's what I've come to master and love.
I want my Ganonbaby the same!

What about Falco and Roy? They were my best characters in Melee! At least put Falco in Sakurai!

Actually, clones were put in due to EXTRA time. Ganondorf was put in when the designers noted him being similiar to Falcon in his build. Doctor Mario was put in because Sakurai liked the music. Falco was put in due to an underestimated popularity of the Star Fox franchise. And finally Roy was put in to promote FE6 in Japan.

I personally like clones, but I would rather have a completly different character. Ganondorf was fine since a couple moves were changed and he was too different from Falcon. Pichu and Doc were a little too close to their original counterparts for my taste, not to mention useless characters. Roy was a bit different, though I wouldn't mind seeing him again (albeit with a new moveset). Falco or Wolf seems to be one of the bigger debates on SmashBoards (personally, Wolf for me). Ganondorf should return, though I'd like it if he had a different moveset. I love the way Ganon plays (Ganon main) but also think that he should have a moveset of it's own.

So basically, without clones a multitude of characters (save Luigi) would have been excluded from Melee, so if it's the same with Brawl (which could be because of the delay and Sakurai saying there are more characters than you can imagine), I'd be happy.

And yes. It's really unacceptable to see the game SO close to Japanese release but not even a CLUE of a PAL release date (remember kids, after Q2 was deconfirmed by Nintendo themselves).

Triple ditton on CF. Wouldn't mind a new f-zero playable character either. They've got a wild cast all to themselves, I'm sure it wouldnt be hard to pick one.

Black Shadow would be great.

And no he wouldn't have to be a clone of Falcon (cmon, we all know Falcon is returning)

just think about it

if the game has clones returning I really dont care and neither does my brother I love falco or fox and bowser is good enough for me. and as for my brother ice climbers are uniqe and have already been confirmed, I just hope that falco returns and if not, hey I still got fox, and bowser.

but hey I dont see clones coming back in my opinion so all characters in melee who were cloness (if they get in the game) should have a different move set.

and about the luigi polterguest dilema, in melee the moves mario did were boosted in power by luigi
if so than if he has the vaccum it has to have some way of attack possibly a knock to the ground as if a grab. and also not to get your hopes down anyone but even if Goro is an assist trophy that does not confirm falcon. I do not doubt his conclusion yet there is a slight chance of him out of the game. saying Goro confirms falcon is like saying mr. resseti confirms nook.

sorry but come on think of all the assist trophys that come from games that have no playable character to back up there story.

Here's to you guys getting Brawl ASAP in Europe and Australia. You all know how much this p***es me off!

And clones were confirmed in October. We call it "Lucas". Regardless of Ness' return or not, he's a clone. O and lol...Pichu is actually probably one of the most original clones. I'd honestly say only Luigi and Gdog are more original. Though, that doesn't excuse it from sucking! >_>

I've said it in other threads and I'll say it again here. I know it's not likely, but...

I really want Black Shadow to replace Captain Falcon.

Help me get an e-mail, and I'll tell you
Okay...

C. Falcon is returning, and is solely respenting F-Zero by himself (either that or *shudders* Black Shadow). Luigi is probably be un semi-cloned, and will have the Polgeriust as his Bv.

And I'm against Ness and clones all together. Clones are unoringal and just characters and are just some character with a copied moveset. I'm against Ness, because...I'm a Claus supporter.

Anyway, I like your desire, and I'm hoping for a Character Update soon. I mean, it's been 40 days! Give us something! Even a returning character!

Anyway, good and decent list.

(P.S.: I'm a member, who hasn't been able to get into the Brawl boards since my message that was supossed to make me a full-fledged member wasn't send. If it was, I be on the boards a few months ago.

I'm just waiting for the dojo to send out something brand new and exciting that nobody thinks will happen (ranks, online 2p classic, or something else thats crazy).
