I personally use L for everything; I don't like my right hand doing everything. As well, I have R set to attack for DACUS (even though I rarely use it), what about you guys? Discuss advantages or disadvantages to both.

I primarily wavedash and shield with R and L-cancel with L, but I can do them all with either.

I think I originally started focusing on R to wavedash because I found it easier to time the input with alongside the jump button using the same hand, which I found easier than inputting jump with my right and airdodge with my left, for whatever reason. I don't know if that could count as an advantage / disadvantage, it's probably more like personal preference. It makes it so I have one motion on one hand to wavedash and then I just let my left thumb worry about the angle/distance.

I've also now taken the spring out of my R button which I find makes it a lot easier to time wavedashing precisely.

R for wavedashing, optimizes grip on the left side for best control of the control stick short of relearning using a left handed claw
I used to L-cancel with L but switched to R for the above reason. Only time I ever use L now is to hover/float as m2/peach without sacrificing might right thumb and thus instant availability of the c-stick for FC/HC aerials.

@ Y-L Y-L , z is actually easier to learn since it's a click and not an analog press. No need to get a feel for the degree to which the button must be pushed to register. That said, Z also unfortunately triggers full press shield in PM and thus wastes techs, so in practice, in PM, it's actually better to use a trigger until they fix that.

R for absolutely everything, I know it will mess me up eventually, but it's what I know.

I feel the opposite, where you're possibly detrimenting your button pressing more so than the control stick

I use X to Wavedash, and L-cancel. :L

But that isn't a option. So I'll answer in what I use in Melee, which is L, though I use Z to L-cancel. :L

R, for wave tech, for L-cancelling, for whatever. R is for winners. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

I use R for wavedashing unless it's out of Shield in which case I use X, L for L-cancelling, unless it's part of a SHFFL in which case I hit up on the right analog stick, this all means I'm forced to used Z for shielding, , however if I want to spot dodge I hold the right stick left, and if I want to roll I hold it right,I also re-map Y to throws, and this setup forces me to move all of the right analogue stick attacking to the D-pad.

But seriously I use R for everything, just comes more naturally because I'm right-handed I guess.

I alternate between R and L pretty evenly. There should be a both option in the poll. :^(

I use both also! L for slower wavedash characters, and R for faster wavedashers!

Console ban tho
I always use R for everything except for wavedash out of shield. However, to balance my hands, I always keep my left index finger on L.

L for everything. How else can I play all three(four) Smash games
reasonably smoothly?

L for shield and Lcancel

R for wavedash because if you want to shield wavdash its easier
also platform dropping is easier with R so you can Lcancel with L

I also find it stupid in PM we have to release one of the L or R to shield wavedash

I currently use L for l-cancels and R for shielding and wavedashing. But for djc/wd out of shield I should switch to have l-cancel and wavedash on the same trigger for consistency. Or I can switch it around so L is for l-cancel and shield and R is for wavedashing, which only means I have to use full press L or any R for djc l-cancelling. L-cancelling with L feels better than with R because in a SHFFL'd aerial each hand is using two digits, and wavedashing feels easier with R for the same reason (1 digit per hand).
