Do you think the new L-cancel is stupid?

Did everyone whine like this when Melee came out with new mechanics that took forever to master and work into you game? Not really. That may be because it became "deeper," but if you consider a deep game to be one that you have to mash buttons insanely to get to a competitive level of play, you've got some thinking to do. They shifted the competitive focus away from master techs and toward master mindgames. You'll get used to it after a while, or you'll complain that you wasted $50 and go back to playing Melee, while the rest of us enjoy the new game. The series isn't losing its depth, things just changed. Your brother is needlessly whining.

Could someone explain the new version in detail?

All you have to do is FF an aerial attack and its automatically L-Cancelled? The first thing that comes to mind is that this was a diversion and Sakurai will be changing it, because that just doesn't make sense.
You're almost right, but there are two specifics:
1: All lag is removed, rather than just part (as in the Melee L-cancel)
2: You must start fast-falling before doing the move for the L-cancel to happen.

To me it actually makes a lot of sense and fits will into the increased aerial combat that Sakurai had intended. It allows you to still SHFFLC weak moves, but if you want to drop killing attacks like Link's d-air or C. Falcon's knee, you need to either use full jumps or accept a bit more lag.

This is why i'm glad i never touched melee until 2 weeks ago. This way i can train for what's in the future of brawl, of course thanks to the people who went to E for everyone. I learned wave dashing for kicks though, i does has it's uses.

Anyway i'm confident new advanced techniques will be found for brawl, so it's exciting to wait and see what gets figured out.

Tell your brother to stop complaining. Omg you no longer have to press L, R or Z = less skillful. A lag cancel is a lag cancel. It's a brand new game, either he'll adapt or he'll just keep on playing melee. I honestly don't know why people jump to conclusions about something they know almost nothing about, let your brother reserve his full judgment until brawl comes out.

Your brother is a real crybaby ;_;

It just sounds like its going to make the game a bit easier in my opinion. Which is what they are going for. But ultimately the good players are going to find new ways to out maneuver the casual player.

Yea. Peach can still float cancel too so she's still going to be ahead of the rest of the casual bwahaha. The thing I like about the pro mentality is our desire to be efficient killers. We needed to move faster and we discovered and utilized L-canceling and other forms of cancels. Brawl's slew of new mechanics is going to be like a playground of new things to explore.

That's all good for me. Oh, and I'll be more than willing to defeat your Peach, Mama. :)

Then you'll have to face the omnipotent Ganondorf if she falls. Lol. If theres one character I'm super juiced to see (aside dawg Sonic) its Ganondorf. He was so bad @$$ is TP with his beastly ways. I want to see that translate well into Brawl. I use Ganon as my second now and while I'm used to how he plays Ganondorf with a glowing sword of light > what I'm used to now.

Did I hear Ganondorf? Hah, I'll be glad to take that on.

I play Ganondorf as my second as well, and I hope he translates well with a sword, because he better have one.

Well, a quick update...

My brother still complains about the new L-cancel. It figures since he mained Fox, Falco, and C. Falcon in Melee...

He said he wants to make an account here... So if you see a bunch of noob posts from a new guy, I'm sorry.

Lol. Well Fox plays different in Melee so if anyone character adapts well to the new L-cancel I'd say it would be the new Fox. Likr it or not he'll adapt.

I kept on telling him that, I mean all of Fox's moves come out super quick, so the new L-Cancel would help him. But he saying, "No, new L-Cancel nerfs Fox. Blah, blah, blah, fox sucks with nerfed shine, blah, blah"

It's quite annoying.
