Do you think 1player mode helps you with human competitive play?

If so, please, explain. If not, then discuss as to why it doesn't help. I myself am one who started playing the game first, and then playing some of 1player. I never really cared about completing the game, although if I get bored I could.

I am thinking if things like target tests and such can help you, with your speed or something... I don't know.

Please shed some light.

Hehe I'm glad. I feared me neglecting 1player mode could had resulted in me MISSING some smash bros essence... Because isn't that how everyone started? looool.

Should this thread be in the one player section of melee discussion, not that I blame you for posting it here there is some serious lag time on getting a response to a question there.

doesnt help. no c stick
I feel it's worthwhile to point out distraction making a good post.

My bit to add: I have to try really hard to try not to abuse the AI. For example, the fact that AI never attacks when falling downwards towards you. It's so easy to just wait and charge an upsmash...but I try to make myself not do things like that. Starts happening subconsciously sometimes, though.

I thought so as well, but I just put it here because I'd want it to be more about 1player mode helping competitive play. Bold being the important part. : D

And I probably wouldn't get a quick response either way haha.

Yeah true, sometimes I can forget that I'm trying to get a good score and not improve my techniques for actual competitive play haha.

That reminds me, I used Fox's target test to practice ledge-teching, using the right side of the burners (using the left side is bad because the burners always hit you to the right so you automatocally bounce off and don't need to Smash DI, which is bad for practice).

Yes jigglypuffs' target tested I just sit up there teching and keep floating forever and get better at teching.

Both good ideas, hehe neat. : D I haven't actually thought of these, haha.

I did HRC before I became active in the tourney scene and I think it's part of why I improved faster than most other people who started around the same time; it helped me become very familiar with all of the characters' movesets and physics.

Wow lots of people think it's useless.. I think that things like target test and homerun contest do help in getting used to general physics of the game / physics of each character... Switching back over to c stick afterwards isn't that bad.
