I guess the cartoonish characters are my preference though I generally doing separate them into categories my head.
I still play Link, Snake, Samus, Little Mac, and Captain Falcon plenty, and I'm definitely going to try out Simon.
Cartoonish characters are just have the more interesting designs and are usually capable of more interesting moves than the "realistic" characters. "Realistic" characters also fall into this trap that they always have to look really serious doing whatever it is they are doing at all times and it's kind of dull. Especially when they're not even like that in their source games. Little Mac is like an excitable little child in Punch-Out Wii but he doesn't ever so much as crack a smile in Smash 4. It's bogus.
