So...do you like the Brawl wifi mode?

I LOVE it. I know that people think it could have been better, but we should be thankful for having online play at all. But anyway, I think the one we have now is awesome!!!

So what about you? Do you like the wifi?

No. I much rather play either by myself, or have to go through the trouble of getting friends together (whom might I add don't really play games seriously/competitively), just to have a good time with the game.

OF COURSE WE LIKE IT! Regardless of how much is available via WiFi, it is still a GREAT addition that will greatly amplify the entertainment value of the game.

I doubt I'll ever make use of it.
I prefer playing it by myself or with my friend. And we're not SERIOUS about competitions and such.
However I do think there's this indirect, unmentioned battle bewteen us to see who can break each other's records.
It's all good fun.
But back to the topic. The only thin gI though when I saw the game getting online features I was like "You people are really making an effort to make this the best possible game aren't you?" *bows to the team*
I wasn't like "Holy Sh*t!" for online.
I might drop in a few times just for the heck of it, but if I start losing many times, you can forget it!

I hate all the complaining about it on this board, just be thankful we have ANY Wi-Fi people. EDIT: Be POSITIVE, like Gomolka and igloo9, I respect your opinions about it.

Anyway, back to my original post before I saw Jimtopia's lack of reading comprehension.

Well, the question he is asking is "Do you like WiFi mode?"

Really, there is no Yes or No answer. If you don't wish to participate with the WiFi compatibilities, then you would just be playing the game in peace with yourself or friends. Nothing wrong with that, but it's not like you actually "don't like" the WiFi part of the game, you just don't really care for it.

Therefore, this really isn't that good of a thread, sorry. Not trying to speak for all, but in a forum site that is SSB specific, most likely 90% or more people will say that they will happily make use of the WiFi mode. And for those who won't, they don't say that they don't like it, but rather that they won't make use of it because of their own personal decisions. It really won't take away from the game or make someone not like the game because of it.

My fault, I think Jimtopia was trying to point out that both I and Igloo9 are examples of how we should all be thankful that there is any WiFi mode, his sentence structure was just misleading.

My apolgies, Jimtopia.

I'm pretty sure I'll like it
And If I don't? I'll still like it. Unlike Melee, it will have something more interactive. If you're in the middle of no where, you got a partner to play with online.

I rarely go on WiFi on Mario Kart because there are those people who are too good (M2K?). On Jump Ultimate Stars (Japanese Servers), it's too laggy so less visits there.

I'm not worried if it's worth it at all. All that matters is the level of lag and the ocassion people that **** you viturally. If there's like a fourth of a second delay, I might shoot myself.... so I won't be going on WiFi any time soon.

I really LOVE the wi-fi. I think the fact that there is no raking system means less or no D/C'ers, which is great.

On topic:
The wifi is great. Friend Codes aren't as much of a hassle as people think. Also, if you want ranked matches, just grab friend codes off of people on SWF and play a friends match.

the lack of the ability to add friends and such after matches is quite annoying really but I guess it's better then fighting the same lvl 9 computer when you can't play with anyone else over and over again.

I'm hoping online play will not be restricted to several stages like Battalion Wars 2 or Mario Kart DS. Otherwise, online play should be superior to that of today's Nintendo's game online services... for me, anyway.

The best part about Wi-Fi is that you will always have a new challenge. I'm tired of using the same cheep tricks to easily KO a CPU Luigi anyway.

I like the wifi system personaly. the whole freind codes thing was made probably because nintendo knows sites like this exist. If I want a competitive match I come here. a semi competitive-casual play I go everyone or w/e. has anyone considered BTW that nintendo could set it up that you can set yourself a setting like competitive match search or casual match search(just a thought).

Yeah because when Brawl is released I'm pretty sure there's going to be a thread for friend codes. So it's going to be all good in the end.

I was actually thinking that, error_alt_delete , I was hoping that there would be some kind of level system to put you up against people your skill level. Because then you can't really build skill if there are those who just pummel you to the ground. And I doubt there will be casual or competitive because there will always be very skilled players who go into casual just to bash unexpecting gamers to bits.

The last online game I played with a skill level system was more broken then Kirby's back throw. Your was raised depending on the amount a matches you won, and you could just go on a CTF game and hide in the corner while everyone else did the work. Tell me if you can find a way out of this loop-hole.

I know people say that it's missing a lot of things, but the only thing I mind is the lack of a ranking system. It would just be SO much more fun if you could get a fun, even match every time you'd play. It would be excellent practice for those of us who can't make it to a tournament. But instead, I'll probably be crushing newbs half the time and getting destroyed by pros the other half.

HIGHLY doubtful. I understand Mario Kart DS's case.. Since it was wifi on a handheld console. In comparison to what the Wii can handle, and its possibilities, im 100% positive that WON'T happen.

here are some reasons why it isn't so great

1. no headset
2. no online rankings
3. you can't add someone after a random match
4. you have to add #'s to add someone, not just a gamer tag

but online is better than no online

Yes, like I already said, everyone will pretty much just say the same thing.

Not really a good discussion topic except listing the obvious reasons you like, or dislike it.

"I like wifi because you can play online"

" I dislike wifi because it doesn't compare to xbox live".

That kind of thinking os no longer true now that games are getting as advanced as they are. It's like telling people not to complain about how their homes have no toilets when this has been in standard for so long.

And yes, I like Wifi. I wont ever use some of the garbage they put in there, but playing random people is always fun. I just hope it's customizable with 2-4 players, items, and selectable stages. And here's hoping lag wont be that much of a factor.

The wifi is terrible.

If we have a good random match we can't even follow up on it and get their FC, I mean WTF is that. We can't use custom taunts unless we know the people. THERE'S NO RANKING SYSTEM. We can't even pick what match to watch in spectator mode, it's really sad. And I hate that you Nintendo fanboys are in denial, it's barebones terrible.

Praising Brawl's (or even Nintendo's) WiFi for being the best thing ever is about the most fanboy thing one could do.

With every other game Nintendo takes online, players will wuss out and disconnect from matches every time it looks rough. Anonymous matches are going to suck. Hard.

Take into consideration that even the slightest non-ping will mess up a game that requires important timing such as this. Take it from anyone who's played a game of Smash Bros. 64 online, and I have. Frequently.

Brawl's online will be a good time killer, but it won't be for serious players. I'll stick to my local competition.

Wi-fi isn't completely terrible, and im not in denial. Wi-fi let's you play online, it doesn't lag(unless you play someone from across the globe). That's basically all you need. However, since Wi-Fi isn't as good as Xbox Live, I guess that means it's just horrible now, not even worth going on it's so bad, right?

Keep in mind Wi-Fi is new to Nintendo. They haven't had as much experience as other online-play such as xbox live, whom has been around since Xbox or PS2. Nintendo is using wi-fi for the first time on their systems, which means it isn't going to be as good as the top best online-play company in the world yet.

Who knows, maybe it will have downloadable updates that let us have these things later. I know Wi-fi isn't as good as the others, but I'm not going to say it's horrible because of that. As for no ranking system, im not really sure why not. The main reason I believe was that he wanted people to just have fun and not go obssessed over it, basically aiming for the casual players.

We somehow didn't have an online system in melee, yet were fine with that. Yet it doesn't have everything we want so it's terrible?

well no not really. We got online-play, which is good enough. I don't feel the need to ask for more and more. Yes, other games have it such as Halo and what not, but I really don't even enjoy those games so why should I care if it doesn't have everything that online-play system has?

It's mediocre, and this being the first online console is a poor excuse, Mario Kart DS had better online then this. They are a multi-billion dollar company, they can get their **** done if they wanted to, me not knowing who I'm playing against is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Think about that, really think about that.

Yea it is, and I'd hope they have valid reasons for doing this. I doubt they just blindly decided to do it this way, considering Mario Kart DS had rank system, names, and what not.

If they can make it to where disconnectors lose points for disconnecting, i'd be all for it. However, in mario kart ds they didnt, so basically because people were so obsessed with winning they would just disconnect.

Considering how big of a industry they are, they could of easily hired someone to add all of this. Rather, I doubt it's because they didn't know how, or didn't know of it.

I really want to know their reason behind this.

I really LOVE the wi-fi. I think the fact that there is no raking system means less or no D/C'ers, which is great.
First off, whether or not there is a ranking system has yet to be confirmed so dont jump to conclusions on that matter. Second I SERIOUSLY doubt ranking systems take such a toll on the online infrastructure that it would cause additional disconnections.

Now on the matter at hand. I love the idea of WiFi with smash brothers but what we've seen so far is lackluster at best. I realize that no Wii games at this time have voice chat so I'm not going to completely harp on the lack of that one feature, HOWEVER Nintendo's "Anti-Pedo" campaign seems to be limiting the potential that this game really has a WiFi expierience. We can't even see the NAMES of the people that we face and aren't on our friend list? Seriously? We can't use our pre-determined taunt messages on matches with people who we don't know? Seriously? Yes I can see it now, 10 year olds putting down their address, phone number, and social security numb ers in taunt form. GIVE ME A BREAK! It's like I'll be playing a Computer when I'm on Wifi. I've learned to deal with the limitations that Nintendo has set but this is taking it way too far. Mario Kart DS was one of the first titles to take advantage of Nintendo WFC and already its limitations seem less imposing then Smash Brothers.

Though don't get me wrong, these are more pet peeves then anything else and there will always be ways around the unnecessary limitations set on the game. It just seems to me that Nintendo is not going far enough in what they could do with the franchise and their entire online network. I'm not asking for Xbox live but I would like to see Nintendo atleast try to surprise me. Spectator Mode (Though spectator mode suffers yet again in the names department...), the sharing of 3 minute videos, and stage building are all steps in the right direction and I can't wait to see what Sakurai still has underneath his sleeves in the online department.

Edit: Oh, and Tobi. The losing points for disconnection thing was implemented in Metroid Prime Hunters (as I'm sure you knew) and Metroid also had the option to add rivals (individuals you didn't know and had fun playing with) which you'd think would be a feature fleshed out and perfected in Smash Brothers. Shame really...

Edit2: I may come off as pessimistic but I really am excited for Smash Bros. Brawl :D

When they made the wifi it doesn't seem like they cared at all or looked to past games to see what worked or what didn't. I know headsets would be great and this whole no names and no custom taunts thing is just ******** but my main concern is disconnects. Anybody who has played strikers charged will know what im talking about. Once you get up by 2 goals 80% of people will disconnect. I can tell that they tried to combat this problem. They made the assumption that people disconnect to protect their record and thought they could solve that by removing the record. The problem is that people disconnect because they hate losing not to protect thier record. The best solution is to have a ranking system with massive penalties for disconnects but they seem to be anti record system so i have an alternative solution. Have a catagory in player profiles that counts disconnects then display that with ther connection speed (like in strikers). if the number is high you know they are poor losers and you can select not to play them. The number would have to be based on the system not on the profile so that players could not simply make a new profile every time the number got too high. This would even solve the power outage problem because you wouldn't lose rank in a power outage and if somebody has a low number you bcan assume they were power outages.

What do you think?

I hate Wi-Fi and the fact that now I can easily up my competitiveness and ability to play the game well against friends and other people here at SWF. I hate the fact that now I have no excuse to be at least mediocre at the game. I hate the fact that now, if one of my friends got the game, that we wouldn't have to go through the extreme hassle of trying to get him to my side of town so we could play for a few hours.

This is a waste of a thread. Who in their right mind DOESN'T like the ability to play the game online?

I just hate the fact that so far no voice communication has been announced :p

pretty much what I said. Basically, people will say the same two arguments:

• Yes, I'm glad we have Wi-fi.

• Wi-Fi is mediocre compared to Xbox Live, But I still will play it and glad we have it.

I doubt people will say wi-fi completely sucks and wont get online at all.
