Or should that be a thing?

12 character match rules: http://www.ssbwiki.com/Twelve_character_battle

My rules for doubles:

A: A character defeated is taken out for the rest of the event, even if the partner wins the match. Should two players have only one character available for use both players play as that character. This is the only time both players on the same team can play as the same character.
B: No sharing stocks (or alternatively, allow sharing stocks but the character borrowing a life is still ruled out for the rest of the 12 character battle. If after sharing stock the partner gets defeated, both characters are out for the remainder of the event regardless of the results of that match)
C: You can switch controller ports at any time. But to make things less confusing, always stay on the same team color. (Or alternatively, always use the same controller port but feel free to change team colors)
D: Feel free to change characters with your partner at any time. Was your partner using Ness before? Feel free to switch to Ness. He simply can't have been defeated beforehand.
E: Should a sacrifical KO occur that causes a match to end in a draw, all KO'd characters are considered defeated. If the whole event ends in a draw because of this, a sudden death rematch is played until a clear winner can be found. At this point, players are free to use any character they like.

Rules A and B examples:
Example A: Captain Falcon lost all his lives, but Ness won the match for him. Too bad, CF is still out.
Example B: Samus steals a life from Kirby after losing all her lives. Kirby then loses all his lives but Samus wins for her team. Both Kirby and Samus are taken out for the rest of the event.

12 character 1v2 battles sounds good to me. It allows people who don't know how to play all 12 to play 12char battle.
