So there's this tree that's fairly huge that's growing just off our property line. It's so big that its lower branches not only cross the invisible mark on a map at the city office, but it's making a sizable portion of the property inaccessible.

Do I trim away what's necessary to avoid personal injury should someone fail their dex check?

Can I? Should I?

Simple answer: "Just look it up or call a city official."

But I was asking more of general question to stimulate a discussion on whatever pops into your heads.

[COLLAPSE="my thoughts..."]
I was thinking about the tree, cause it's nice, and to trim it is healthy, and it's no effort to do so both professionally and with respect to my land being safe to walk. And the city prolly doesn't give 2 ****s about what I do to that tree (except cutting it down or damaging it severely)
cause it lines a drainage ditch out back behind the house ... yeah a nice little "crick" secluded from man due to a thick wire fence lining the property's back yard ... wolf, snake, not a brawl character list gator, though... ha some crazy **** racoon's so big!!! All fluffy and cute but they'll tear your *** u p

As a question of whether you should or should not trim the tree... my thoughts lean towards avoiding any sort of "middleman" and go directly ask the owner of the property the tree is primarily growing on. Ask for his or her thoughts and opinions regarding the matter and make a request for tree trimming. If you feel the need to further have "your way" you could go look up regulations in the area for such a matter.

In the end, I would agree that the local government would not care at all at such actions. It mostly comes down to resolving any problems with you and the only likely person to complain, the land owners.

I don't think asking whether or not you should trim a tree is going to get you into Debate House Proper.

Post this thread in a different forum.

Anywho, personally, I would just call a city official and let them decide. Heck, they might even trim it for you for all we know.

Except Sucumbio is already a Debater.

In general you can cut anything that protrudes over your property line. Typically you'd get permission if it's a neighbor's tree, and same if it's the city's. We did some research and the whole tree actually IS on the property it's just that he put a fence up a few feet back from the line b/c it was easier than cutting back the tree line. He's cut the same branch like 4 times in the last 20 years, and of course it just grows back, which is why I suggested cutting it at the trunk.

Well, seeing as that's the case, you should go and cut the whole thing down if you have the means to do so, unless someone on your end has a sentimental attachment to the tree.

I was not aware of that. Also, how do you have purple text?
I set it manually by typing in the actual code.

[color="<whatever color you want>"] and end it with [(slash)color].
