Different grabs from back AND front?

Just a thought, and if its been done before, feel free to delete this. I just feel I should mention it.

With Snake's update, we get an interesting picture:

Now, aside from the fact Ike is doomed, we make a noticeable observation: he is behind Ike. If this was a grab from the front, how would he get behind him so easily? The only thing I can think of contradicting this is his back throw.

Thoughts? Comments?

He could either turn the person around or just slide in behind them. I doubt there is a different grab animation depending on which way his opponent is facing.

Here's my question.

Aren't the three previous "questions" not questions at all?

Either way, that's just Snake's normal grab. That's how he does it. *shrugs*

Actually I was questioning, really, how Snake would perform such a grab on someone whose anatomy was odd, such as Kirby, or Wario whose neck is like a tree trunk...

Although this adds much more hope to my friend's wish that there be a 'neck snap' action while grabbing.

It still wasn't grammatically a question, though. :p

Well, I guess that grab will be a little harder to program than others, but, Kirby, he can just hold him with his gagging hand and kinda grab that little stubby arm with his other hand...

They'll think of something, eh?

I have to admit, I honestly can't see him doing this on someone like Bowser without it looking awkward due to Bowser's size and pointy shell. However, picturing it he's the only one that has any serious issues, the others don't really have any problems, even Kirby. I'm sure they have sorted it out, but I can't stop picturing Snake regretting grabbing the spiky giant turtle from behind.

Picture that grab being done on someone like Zamus. :p
The picture with Ike is already suggestive enough (doesn't help that Ike has such a phallic sword), I can't imagine it'd be long before we get 'Surprise Buttsecks' macros:ohwell:

I wouldn't put it past Sakurai to make unique grabs depending on the character grabbed. I mean, the picture in question is the legit way on grabbing someone using a sword, but what if they were duel-wielders? or the short people like IC's and Mario?

what about different grabs animation for different players?

I know, each player would need a crap load of variations but i think is the only way that this kind of grab (the one on ike) could be done with bowser!

it reminds me on how DK picks people up and walks off with them. It's probably similar, only, snake just drags them off since he couldn't possibly pick some up over his head.

I'm kinda leaning towards unique grab animations for different types of characters. "Realistic" characters like Snake and Ike, in the picture. He might kneel down for lift up smaller characters. Bowser or Ridley? Some how knocks them down and holds back one of their arms, or something. Or maybe Snake will just have to deal with spikes through his chest =P

while it is possible there are diff throws for front or back, it is jusy as possible that he spins them around if he grabs someone facing him

If I were to make a guess, I would say that a possibilty would be that it would be a second grab option much like DK's Cargo. If it were a normal grab, the grab animation would probably be pretty long, or too awkward if it was made as quick as everyone elses', but of course I can't say that until I've seen it. He could grab the person like normal, then twist his/her arm around, get behind him/her and continue with the strangling.

Snake grabs people like that in his games... Expect him to turn around any foe he grabs that is facing him...

As you can see, he will lift up shorter characters. And awkwardness seems to already be shown with Snake's arm going right into Mario's, so expect others to look weird too...

Seriously, It may be possible that there are many different grab animation, one for the front, one for the back, one for shorter characters and one for the just weird ones. That or you may be right and there are only front and back grabs with different ways to attack.

Now that you mention it, different grabs for front and back would make a lot of sense, especially with what we've now seen of Snake. I definitely think you're on to something with that. In terms of adding things to the gameplay, there isn't much to add. Extra grabbing options seems to be a logical step to take.

To answer the question once and for all, snake does that in his games a heck of a lot (CQC anyone?). If he's in front of then, he just grabs their arm, pulls it behind their back and once there, he keeps pulling, as a result the victim turns around (getting some painful shoulder trauma in the process I owuld imagine.), and finishes by putting his head over their mouth, (usualy followed by some throat slashing or neck breaking, but we'll assume that's out in this pandticular case.)

The end.
