Did anyone else buy a Japanese 3DS 2 play SSB3DS early?

I was debating it, since I wouldn't mind only being able to play Smash Bros on it (since any game I buy/import would be in japanese but SSB4 would be fine not being in english)

But even playing other games is possible as I do know some japanese and it would force me to learn more.

*shrugs* I've waited since 2010 at least for the next great competitive smash bros game after Brawl left a very very sour taste in plenty of mouths mine included and have also been waiting in roughly the same time span for the day that a handheld version of my favorite fighting game may come to be. I pre-ordered the 3DS version last month at Best Buy and have been patiently waiting until October 3rd rolls around counting down the days till I can make a trip to the Best Buy where I preordered and have a fresh new copy of Sm4sh in my hands. I reckon since I've waited this long, I can wait eleven more weeks.

*Stares at stack of games piling up that I've been meaning to play and really sink my teeth into for weeks if not months now*

If I could just waste $300 or so without any negative consequences, sure. I'd do it.

Unfortunately, I have bills to pay and college to un-debt. So I'll just wait it out.

20 days is not worth buying a second 3DS with a language barrier and being forced to buy/play only games not sold in my country.

Nintendo has been releasing games with different international release dates since forever so I'm use to it.

The only way I'd play the game in Japanese if it's cancelled in North America.

Hm... nah, it's really only a few weeks wait between the Japanese and western release, I've already been waiting this long, I can wait a few more weeks.

But hey, if you have enough money to spare and afford a Japanese 3DS as well as the game and if you wish to buy some Japanese only games alongside it then hey. More power to you. :)

Yup. 3DS is taking awhile to get here though.
Well, tbh I sort of did it for Project Mirai and a few others...but I can say I wouldn't have done it without a push from Smash Bros. Plus Japan-exclusive mint LL is cute.
Here's hoping they don't offer Japanese language and VA in the NA release. Because that'll make having two versions twice as awesome

Guess you were pretty upset Project Mirai Remix is coming here now lol.
I will be getting the US version only, but one thing I missed in Brawl was mixing up the game announcer with Japanese so I hope dual audio is back but it's no reason to get a game early.

Oh no, I'm happy it is. So I only ordered the first Mirai game :)

I dislike the term hearing the term "western", because non-Westerners often use the term interchangeably with "white" or "European".

But I agree. People should wait for the release in their region.

Nope. I have waited for more than one year for Smash, waiting one more month is not going to kill me.

Luckily for me, I already have one for Monster Hunter 4 purposes.
So getting to play SSB4 early is a nice bonus.

I recently upgraded to an XL (replacing my original launch 3DS), so I definitely couldn't justify the expense of a third 3DS that I'll only use for one game or so.

Oh really? Do you have a better term for me to include both the European and United States release then? Because that's kinda the way I've been using it....

Meh, it's only a few weeks I'd have to wait, so I will just do the right thing and wait.

I'd buy a japanese 3DS and Smash, but I won't really have money until the day Smash 3DS comes out anyway, so yeah.

In the world map I use, the one where Japan isn't the center of the world, Europe is smack-dab between western America and eastern Japan.

Call the Americas Westerners, Europe Middlers, and both of them together may be called America and Europe World Leaders :rotfl:

Hmm... I think I'll probably just stick with Western for both of them for now. Seems shorter and from what a few dictionaries I've read online, still seems to include both America and Europe to some extend.... But I guess that's a debate for another thread.... ^^;

I tend to distinguish the two, since the US is NTSC, while the EU is PAL.

Plus, there's different release dates for "Western" regions: the US and Europe will get it a day before Australia (3DS version).

So you want me to just refer to them as NTSC and PAL? I can do that if you like.

I'll just wait the month. I've waited 4 years, a month is nothing. :)

I think I can wait for it. I don't think spending $200+ isn't worth an early 20 days (especially in a language that I don't speak)

Oh, I'm not saying that you shouldn't use the term Western, as I'm not you. All I'm saying is that I dislike the term "Western", and I use the specific terms "Europe", "North America", and "Australia".

Oh, I got it! If Japan is Eastern, Israel is Middle East, and America is Western, then Europe should logically be Middle West, right? Especially since it's literally touching the Middle East, and there's an ocean between it and America?

But to keep to the thread conversation: If I always bought a japanese console for this purpose, then what should one do with a japanese DS, Wii, Gamecube, etc.?...

I used to change the language in Melee and Brawl to Japanese cause I thought it looked cooler..

Uh, in the Japanese version do you think you can you change the language to English? Could you do it in the Japanese versions of Melee and Brawl? lol

No. Because I can wait a month and then use that money to buy a Wii U in time for that version. It must be cool to have a disposable income.

There is a board for the Wii U version. I am still not sure why people who aren't interested in the 3DS game post in this board.

I am interested in the 3ds and I've mentioned that I'll be getting both. I already have the 3ds version preordered at Best Buy even.
I was just saying that instead of buying a Japanese 3ds and game, and getting the American version a month later, I'll use that money towards buying a Wii U. Just saying.

Hmmmm I have some extra cash right now but... I have to get over that bump of it being useless after that first month :p. Really, I'd use it for probably nothing else... but it's smash bros... oh gawd what do I do?!

Wait one month and buy the localized version. Trust me, buying a system for one game is not worth. 99% chances of you regretting it later.

You're not dumb, although you should've bought a 3DS that's English.

Nah, I'll wait until October 3 for the NA release. Been waiting for a handheld Smash since like 2008 or 2010 so I can still wait.
