Did anyone else buy a Japanese 3DS 2 play SSB3DS early?

Nah, I'll wait until October 3 for the NA release. Been waiting for a handheld Smash since like 2008 or 2010 so I can still wait.
Yup. I have been waiting for handheld Smash for so long... One extra month is nothing compared to years.

Agreed. Well, for me, 2010 felt really new, and back when the 3DS was revealed I thought ''Smash Bros. would work really well in this.'' And it happened. It's worth the wait.

Say, who here remembers when Japan got Brawl a month before the rest of the world? We didn't really panic or anything. I want to say it wasn't a big deal, but I don't remember that well.

People did make a fuss over it as well, especially when it got an extra month delay.

The PAL and AUS users didn't really even get a release date yet and just had to sit around like a lemon and wait..... They did make enough of a fuss as well to cause Nintendo to release Mario Kart Wii a week earlier to compensate for Brawl's huge delay (if I recall correctly).

(There was that freeloader thing they could use to unblock the Wii's region lock but Nintendo blocked that not too long after if I recall correctly as well....)

I just recently bought one off eBay. I know its not worth it and that I can just wait a month but I got a lot of spare money around so I don't really regret it.

A question tho, does anyone know if its possible to play between two 3ds' from different regions? For example if I want to vs. someone with NA 3ds, would it be possible for them to connect?

Hmm, I don't see why you couldn't, but then again this is Nintendo we're talking about.

If I could just waste $300 or so without any negative consequences, sure. I'd do it.

Unfortunately, I have bills to pay and college to un-debt. So I'll just wait it out.
Pretty much exactly this. Except I see now it's only like 150$. Makes it tempting. Still not happening.

unless maybe my roomates and I all pitch in... maybeeeee

I realize it may be out of your budget, but you can buy them for about $130 ~ $150 on eBay.
Just realized this and edited my post, lol.

Still a bit expensive, and I'm hoping to get a PS4 as Destiny comes out on the 9'th of Sept. It's more the combination of the two that I can't justify, it'd kill me, haha. I've been saving up for the PS4 for awhile now, and I got my 3DS at launch. getting 2 systems that close would be a bit of a financial suicide for me .

I already had one. 3DS really is a gold mine for people like me. When I studied japanese a year or two back I would have Gyakuten games, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Meitantei Conan games, etc to play and that really helped me improve. An added bonus is that I can pay on the japanese eShop with my swedish credit card.

That I'll get Smash a few weeks early is a very nice bonus.

Does anyone know if a Japanese 3DS will be able to play local multiplayer with smash with an English one?

So far my searches have shown me it's really a case by case basis, seemingly random, but maybe someone knows different.

Check if Kid Icarus: Uprising or Tekken 3DS allows it. That's the best educated guess you could get.

The website I saw hadn't tested those ones.

Luigi's Mansion and Pokemon X/Y wireless play worked, Mkart 8 and FE:A didn't.

So no clue, really.

Here's an unproven post on Reddit claiming Kid Icarus works. BUT...

Sakurai says the different versions won't play each other due to stages: I wouldn't expect any regional differences unless there were some region-specific content.... like a Mario Kart 8 Mercedes. Or DLC-riddled Fire Emblem (If DLC makes a game region-locked, then Sakurai has to make a decision between DLC and cross-region local play.)

Well it was kart 7 because 3ds.

I might buy a region locked thing off ebay, and then just sell it back when the game comes here. I could justify that.

While I'm sure that I would be able to afford this by September, I can't think of any way to justify it to myself. I'm already putting 90 bucks into the game (half of the Wii U pre-order bundle and the 3Ds pre-order), spending possibly more then twice that amount just to play the game 20 days early just seems pointless.
