Around the start of November, Delzethin released a new episode of his Challenger Approaching series! The challenger this time is Kamek, the Magikoopa second-in-command from the Super Mario series.

A villainous wizard slotting in as a Mario OR Yoshi character, with rising popularity, and more moveset potential than you can shake a broom at! But how could Kamek work as a fighter in Smash Bros.?

Delzethin notes that while Kamek has seen increased prominence during the Switch era, he also has a lot of competition with other Mario characters. Competition that's especially tight when you factor in the base roster only having room for about one or two Mario characters.
Delzethin's concept for Kamek takes full advantage of what the Magikoopa is capable of in his home series. To start off, his alts include a White Mage homage and a color based on SMB1 Magikoopas from Super Mario Maker. Kamek's moveset is designed to be a lockdown zoner who utilizes both projectiles and defensive hitboxes but requires an adequate amount of breathing room to safely do so. Kamek's specials also take advantage of his devious nature, from a teleport that goes further when you hold it, to a a placeable object that Kamek can then interact with in a myriad of ways. The video also ended with a poll featuring the following fighters:

Author’s Note: This is such a delightful moveset, that I’d happily take Kamek as a mage character. How do you feel about Delzethin’s take? As always, let us know in the comments below!
