Dedede and Classic Mode

There are two ways to look at this:

1. Level 5 of Classic Mode is the Kirby level, similar to Zelda Level 1 and Pokemon Level 3. The type of match is you and 2 Kirby characters vs 1 Giant Kirby Character. In this case, Dedede is a starter since you would need 3 Kirby characters for this stage. I suppose you could have 2 Kirby's or 2 Metaknights, but I don't think they would do that.

OR

2. Level 5 of Classic Mode is simply you and two allies vs 1 giant character, and the Kirby characters were just shown in the screenshot. Similar to Melee, unlocked characters appear in the Classic Mode levels. I think the first one makes sense since it was stated that some of the levels are going to be dedicated to a specific franchise.

Was there ever even a debate of whether or not Dedede was unlockable? If all the characters revealed thusfar are starters (with the exception of Snake and maybe Sonic), we are going to have a huge roster.

Hiding in that one place you cant see.
In DeDeDe's case, he might of just been unlocked and then when they start the Classic mode, the Computer randomly gives you a teamate. So, he could still be unlockable, just that when you unlock him he can now be used in classic mode. IDK just speculation

True but with the whole Zelda stage and Pokemon stage, it seems like the picture could be the Kirby stage...

I'm sure the characters are just coincidences... I think the world only makes the stage be from that series, not the characters.

Dedede is a secret character. It wouldn't make sense for him to be a starter, since Sonic and Snake are also unlockable.
??? Are you trying to insinuate that Dedede is a third party character? Because he's not. Dedede can be a starter if Sakurai wants him to be, theres nothing stopping him.

If Sakurai wants to have every single character in the game unlockable (barring 3rd parties) there's nothing stopping him.

I honestly cannot see an entire series with multiple characters have them unlockable at the start of a game. I suppose it could happen but I have my doubts.

Just because something "doesn't make sense" or "doesn't feel right" doesn't bar it from happening. We really have no idea where unlockable characters begin and starters end (except that he claimed 3rd parties to be unlockable). We cant just talk logic, because we can't obviously think in Sakurai's mindset.

No one knows FOR SURE what character's are unlockables and what are starters. IMO I think sakurai is releasing starter's only for updates which may explain why we haven't got Captain Falcon, Luigi, and Jigglypuff.

I don't think it's unrealistic to beleive we could have less starters than ever before this time around. Subspace begins with Mario and Kirby. What if we only have the most important characters from their respective first legs of the journey? I.E. Kirby, D.K., Mario, Diddy, and Pit. There was supposed to be an emphasis on unlocking things this time around, as indicated by several hints including additoinal levels of difficulty not only in adventures but in stadium tests. I'd say expect <10 characters on the screen avaliable from start.

No Internet?!?
It seems highly unlikely that everyone seen on the Dojo so far are starters. Especially Sonic and Snake, as he's already said they're Unlockables. (Well, not Sonic directly, but that 3rd Party thing.)

Could happen but your telling me 23 characters on the site are all starters? Including third party? I think he is just telling what characters are in the game. I have a feeling some of the characters will have to be unlocked.

Rediculous to think that Dedede, sonic, and Ike arent unlockable (I would think snake pit and metaknight are unlockable as well)

Pit, unlockable? I highly doubt it. I would also consider Metaknight a starter. I did not mean that I think all of those revealed are starters, just that if the characters in Classic Mode are predetermined due to each Level being from a specific franchise, Dedede must be unlockable. But it seems like the actual stage is what is predetermined, while the characters are random.

i think that that level is the kirby level since you are fighting a giant kirby character. it was probably just coincidence that king dedede and kirby were mario's allies for that fight. as for the king dedede thing, i think he is unlockable and the dojo is going to post a few easily-guessed unlockables at first. but only the ones that were obvious. i believe that sonic(sakurai pretty much announced sonic when he said only one or two third-parties would make it besides snake) and snake are secrets since they are third-parties and i think it was obvious that king dedede was in if meta knight was in.

I meant that Dedede is a secret character like Sonic and Snake are. Dedede is too epic to be a starter.

I see it to be more like the characters show up in classic mode as you unlock them. Very similar to Classic Mode in SSBM.

Dude...who the crap cares who's unlockable or not. As long as their in the game. Let this stupid debate die, right now.

As for the actual topic of this thread, I'm guessing that it'll either:

A. Every character/franchise in the game has their own level in classic mode, each with different surrounding circumstances.
B. Classic mode is set up like Melee's classic mode in that there are 7 ish (refresh my memory, I don't remember the exact amount) levels each with set parameters, but random characters to fight against. Maybe this time around though, for the team battles and stuff, the randomization will make sense. For example, you fight the Mario Brothers in a team battle, and your partner is Bowser.

Maybe Sakurai already unlocked all the Characters and doesn't give a crap about who's unlockable and who's a starter as long as they're on the Dojo already. EVER TIHNK OF THAT?! You make little children cry.

But we still love you.

In SSB64, Luigi was in Classic Single Player Mode, and yet he was an unlockable.

In your mind!
But in Melee, they entered in Sungle player mode as soon as you unlocked them (unless to fight them to earn them of course)

I don't think this screenshot proves anything, because unlockable characters will show up in Classic and Sakurai won't be shy about putting them in screenshots when they've already been announced.

As for unlockables, there's no way to know for sure unless we're shown the default character select screen or something. It's a pretty pointless argument. But of all the characters announced thus far besides Sonic and Snake, Dedede is IMHO the most likely to be an unlockable. Not only was he announced after the delay when it became clear that the site was going to have to go on a while longer(and thus Sakurai may have decided to compromise on announcing unlockables), but IMHO it seems odd for the Kirby franchise to get 2 new characters that are both unlocked from the start. Then again, it happened with Peach and Bowser in SSB:M so who knows.
