Seems like there's been a lot of these threads lately, but I just recently got some video and would appreciate it if someone can critique my Marth. I just recently started doing tournaments so I'm not very good, but trying to improve.

There's also a lot of random conversation and an annoying phone in the audio lol.

I notice I countered too much in those and tried not doing it so much next time we played.

I felt I did better in these, even though I still kill myself in stupid ways like getting stuck under ledges or chasing people too far offstage, but I'm trying to improve on that as well.

Any other critiques are appreciated.

Watched 1st game against Toon Link. You made a lot of mistakes, but hey, everyone does. Most of these are just times where you could of been better off using something else.

:17- Bad time to use dash attack, you were left very open.

:26- Never fsmash to ledgeguard, always step back and position for a dtilt/fair or shield and grab them after their ledge attack.

I wouldnt get into the habit of countering toon links projectiles, too risky.

:46- Whiffed a fsmash, he was at 39% <<. Use tilts.

1:02- Fsmash ledgeguarding again?

1:22- Overagression got you fsmashed and KO'd.

1:43- You need to ftilt here, or at least spot dodge, you have no defense and toon link is running in.

2:08- You attempted a dair, when there was no chance of it to KO at that position.

3:09- You just stood there and you saw the results.

3:12- SH double fair approach... I mean double fail approach. ^_^

3:37- You used Marths fsmash at 61%, you could of grabbed or tilted. Looks like a up smash would of been better here too.

3:44- Whiffed upsmash= Dead Marth. Make sure your smashes connect, just practice.

4:03- Caught a lucky break here, that miss was easily punished, and the other dsmash didnt ko him, so that means your smashing too early.

I only watched one video so if thats a problem, tell me. Otherwise, basically, space more. I know that toon link can pressure with projectiles, but on Battlefield the ledges should help approach. Use more DB and tilts and less smashes. Dont use SH double fair to approach, ever. NEVER charge fsmash to ledgeguard. Oh and grab/pummel more, it helps your moves regenerate in power and knockback. You have a decent Marth and it has good potential, keep practicing and youll do fine. ^^

Thanks for the indepth criticism, pretty much what I wanted. Even though you only watched one, I think the ones from the 11th are worse than the 13th's, but I don't expect someone to go through with detail on every single match.

Okay, you are playing very offensive. You are running into him with fairs and dash attacks. Like I said before, you gotta keep the pressure on Toon Links and other projectiles users. However, running up to them carelessly isnt the way. You need to stay at a distance thats too close to camp but too far for them to hit you.

This is a safe distance, lets say 5 dashes is a tipper for Marth.
FD EDGE------------------------------MARTH-----TOON LINK----------FD EDGE

This is what it looks like when you get camped...
FD EDGE----MARTH------------------------------------TOON LINK-----FD EDGE

This is what your doing...
FD EDGE-----------------------------------MARTH-TOON LINK---------FD EDGE

You are way to close and your being shieldgrabbed and smashed a ton. Stay at a safe distance at all times. Use fairs and dtilts to trap and wall. Basically keep the opponent at bay.

There are lots of times in the first match posted alone when you definitely could have taken advantage of your opponents mistakes and didn't. I saw many times just in the first few seconds where you could have easily racked up some damage with a few Dtilts or a dancing blade.

i say, dodge less and dont keep urself open. more areials rather than smashes. up-b is a good way to kill at high health. controll the stage better and hold the middle. never stop attacking. side smash leaves u open so done use it as much. uptilt is a good moves to use when they are above u on the platform (bf)

Too many vids to go in depth, so I'll give you pointers, and leave the second by second play to people like ZMT who do stuff like that, lol. I watched only the first three vids from the 11th, I may watch the others later, and post again.

RDing is not a method of transportation. Walking owns. I never saw you walk, learn to do so.

Fastfalling is a good idea.

Invest in perfect shielding. It ***** TL, since his projectiles are so easy to see coming.

Learn spacing and accuracy.

Counter was good in the first match, and too much after. If you want to punish TL for lag in between the first and second slice of his Fsmash when he does it slow, use Dolphin Slash.

Learn to use Dolphin Slash as a defensive move (this is advanced)

Based on your current level of skill, stay away from ShieldBreaker. It's a good move, but you should work on fixing some of your mistakes before you incorperate that into your game.

Follow through on all your Dancing Blades.

Fsmash is better. It tippers, and if the shield, it knocks them from the platform and puts them in tumbling animation. From here, they have to tech off the floor, which most people in Brawl fail at, they're lying on the floor and voila, you get your Fsmash ANYWAY.

Fsmash is not a viable edgeguard.
