Ok, so I played probably one of the best luigi mainers and its his god **** approach that freakin messes me up. The thing is, none of snake's tilts can stop his approach, my usual tilt spacing game is just a epic fail because luigi's aerials and approachs are so freakin fast and tricky, he can switch between any aerial in just a second, and they're priority is just so freakin high, and ALL of his aerials lead into combos...

Other than that, I did pretty good, I beat him once out of 3 matches because I predicted his moves perfectly and used amazing spacing, but still, he is very unpredictable cause he switches from rollingg and tilts and combos to aerial approachs, and once I am in the air, i really can't get back down...

How can I counter luigi's approaches?

lugis attacks do lead to combos. and his fsmash is ridiculously fast and strong. O.o but other then that motor to him and have gernades. his up+B sucks and can be predicted.

Being a Luigi main myself, I have to agree that his up+B is fairly predictable, now most Luigis will try to go into the up angled f-smash for the KO at early %'s. Playing in the ground is key against Luigi and try to keep away from fighting in the air. Use your 'nades to keep him far and if he tornadoes you as an approach use your grenade/shield counter. Shield his aerials in approach and then abuse him with your up/side tilt's.

Basically playing Luigi from a camping type game (at least with snake) is a very good way to play against Luigi's.

I second Snake so I think this might help you out.

Predict his up B duh, I find the Jab up B hard to get on him. Stay grounded and USE PROJECTILES FROM AFAR. I think Locuan has it covered.

Lol man, I know you got wooped by VEC but....

Here is the thing, VEC is so predictable once you realize his pattern, I will tell it to you. First he will wait for you to approach, once you fall for that trap utilt utilt utilt repeatedly to an aerial. Then once you have racked up damage, he will jab to up b, or spam fsmash.

Occasionally he will use the hurricane spin to reach over to your area if you do not fall for the utilt trap, and he will grab every now and then.

Point is: VEC is not the best luigi mainer, its as simple as watching what he does. I used to get ***** by him but now I can get him to the 100 point on the last stock more often than before.

I have played Vec but to bad it wasn't him I'm talking about, although your advice did help a lot...lol. Its actually my friend who has pwned with Luigi since with melee. He doesn't go to tournies or anything which is weird, cause he is a amazing Luigi.

Grenade countering the tornado is really awesome, can't believe I never really thought about that, and using the missile to counter his recovery works pretty well to.

Isn't that *wait for approach then utilt to aerials* the same for Mario too? At least that's how the Mario I face plays, and yes it does get predictable. You know that they just wait for you to come and miss an attack through spot dodge, then they utilt spam into multiple aerials. It's easy to read since if they're just standing idle and/or spamming fireballs they expect you to approach. Just don't make any unsafe moves if you do, like spammy ftilt. Try jus doing the first hit of ftilt and stop, and immediately grab. Or run behind him and pivot grab after an empty short hop. Or approach with a cooked nade in hand...just be cautious and use tactics to cover your vulnerability.

Actually, since luigi has no cape, it wouldn't be bad to cook nades and try to outcamp him either.

weird everyone seems to like grenade countering to tornado...I usually just power shield and then use a throw....

As a luigi main, STAY OUR FROM THE AIR!! That's the last thing you'll ever remember before you get destroyed. Keep it ground-game as, as snake is superior in terms of it but still is slow and laggy. Use your gernades, Missle or whatever it's name it is use land mines and C4's to keep control of the ground. Predict where he's gunna recover and edgeguard him and use Bair. Use Ftilt's when possible as Luigi's nado has ending lag. If the luigi goes for the SH dair, nair, fair, bair, powershield it because luigi can fit 2 aerials in one SH. Shield grab him too on the right timing. Use smashboosting to keep him annoyed and occupied.
