Could whatever Mario's doing here replace wavedashing

Good catch! That's definitely a dashdance. Watched it in 0.25x and Pikachu goes dash -> 1 frame of standing -> dash. Yay!
I can't tell you how happy I am. Also, it's weird that no one had noticed that before.

LOL if wavedashing were actually back I'm pretty sure 75% of this board would **** their pants and immediately brush the game off for being "too technical."

Ahhh if only...

Nice catch on the dash dancing. As far as what the OP was discussing, I've been looking it over and I gotta agree with Amazing Ampharos' opinion that it's not an addition so much as a change to the way dashes work. The first frame still looks a tiny bit like Mario's walking animation, but even at highest settings in the vid it's hard to tell for sure, which leaves me open to believing that he's coming out of a dash into a skid, which just now happens to have more options.

Either way; exciting things being found in that vid if you ask me.

Wavedashing can't return because in the Little Mac trailer we see Wii Fit Trainer using the Brawl air dodge.

@ Mighty_Guy100 Mighty_Guy100 , please don't double post. Just edit your previous post.

Keep things simple folks. Don't use this as a way to express your hatred of wave dashing/of casuals and "Melee vs Brawl vs SSB4" debates.

It never really left, it just got a bit harder (and would usually end in a trip) in Brawl.
So yeah, it left.

Either way, having a functional dashdance is bound to be beneficial to the pace of the game. Also, does it seem like Pika runs a farther distance before turning without the pivot animation?

I thought so. Kinda made it hard for me to see anything out of the ordinary at first.

Iiiiinteresting. I'm not exactly sure what's going on there, but let's hope it wasn't just a technical error and might have some use.

Hmm.
Mario was running, stopped, and instead of wavedashing or tripping, he slid.

Seems like another way of making momentum be more important, since I think the running speeds will be faster than maybe Melee this time around.

I think if Mario merely clicked left on the control stick it would either:
1. Make Mario stop moving entirely.
2. Cause dash dancing (more so than Brawl's wanna be dash dancing), which IMO is a bigger deal (returning) than wavedashing and it isn't even close IMO.

I don't really want wavedashing back, but rather, some sort of quick momentum causing/changing mechanic or movement option of some sorts.

Maybe a quick dash command or something would suffice.

What is the point of dash dancing? It lets you do pivot grabs while standing, sure, but I never found it to be that useful, even for mind games.

Dash dancing is a baiting tool.
It makes the opponent jittery because you could go in at any time, and it allows you to react to the opponent if THEY go in, so you can dash away for a longer period of time to punish the whiffed approach.

It's entirely possible that your play style/level doesn't really benefit from it (I'm in the same boat) but I definitely see it's importance when watching others play.

Personally it's not something I missed too much, but I'm glad others will welcome it returning and I may even try to beef up on it.

Yeah, that actually makes a lot more sense than most other explanations I've been given :p

It's not that I wouldn't benefit from it, but that I haven't benefited from it. My play level is competitive for sure... But not professional :chuckle:

Haha, that's what I figured, that's why I felt safe in saying I'm in the same boat.
Guess I've just never been up against people that required I take advantage of Dash Dashing in order to come out on top.

Yeah, exactly. My only competition is my friend who uses pikachu and wolf. And Meta Knight... He's good, but it's not challenging enough to require mind games to a large extent.

In Brawl, dash-dancing isn't very good because the initial dash animation is short, making dash-dances very small.
In Melee/PM it's MUCH better because the dashes are longer, allowing more flexibility.

Yeah, watching the Mango video I noticed that it was waaaay faster than brawl dash dances.
