The stages, they could do a better job on the stages.

Hell since I am a little bit you know what, I am just going to type beyond the lines for my fellow smashers:
And since it's Wii...... Hell I love SSB, but shouldn't we try to reach the next level? You know what I am talking about. I love Nintendo, I truly am. I personally believe, and I am serious about this right now, that Nintendo and only Nintendo could deliver a true 3D fighting game through the SSB franchise (can we call this game a franchise? lol well, that's for another day).

Wake the F up people! All those 3D fighting that is out right now are total bull ****s. Absolutely BS, they are NOT 3D, they are glorified polygon crazy spinner on a free rotating rotation of 2 attracting stupid axises. Since when does that count as a true 3D fighting game? Would any modern FPS game play be structured like that? Hell no, that's why when it cames down to it, Tekken sucks, DoA sucks, Virtual Fighter sucks(yet very respectably so, since it's very sophisticated deep, yet a lost cause is a lost cause), and by God, SC sucks.

Don't even try to get cute with me by saying how I don't understand or emotionally touched by those "games,” b/c I did. Until I play SSB, then I just woke up. Can't you follow me? Are you still there? All those 3D fighters have lost their ways or practically dead, not b/c the progression of games but rather the formula or “their formula” never existed or balanced in the first place.

Want an example? Forget about examples if you haven’t understood or motivated by me till this point then what’s the point? Who was the master of all fighting games in the 90s? Capcom, Capcom was arguably the King, (ken king of smash, lol…..ok respect haha). He has got the formula of 2D fighting or fighting game down to a pin. Till this day, 2D fighting game developers are still trying to play catch up to one of the greatest game, both historically and technically speaking, that was know as Street Fighter II. But when Capcom tried to make the jump from 2D to 3D during the golden age of SF, they have realized that IT JUST DOESN’T WORK. Plain and Simple, boys and girls, just like Sonic, 3D SF JUST DOESN’T work. If it haven’t and still haven’t worked for SF, then how did it work for the other fighting franchise, that live or die on 3D?

It’s all b/c of us. As 2D fighting games come and go. SEGA tried to compete, they have failed. SNK tried to compete by copy and paste, they have failed. So what do they do when gamers want a fresh fight game by flunking their cash over endless sequels of SFII? They all went 3D. What a joke if you ask me. But we were so in-awe of this new breed of games (3D), and so famished over a new fighting formula, that we cheated to ourselves to this very day.

When is the restricted camera angle going to end? If we can only view the actions from one true angle, then why they told us that it’s a 3D fighting game? I say stop, I say enough is enough. If any of you have watched the ways of Mew2King or KoreanDJ smashed with their space animals, then you would know that Nintendo has finally improved the foundation of modern 2D fighting games, and went beyond what SF would ever dreamed of to accomplish. Now, I ask you, and as the question in hand of this thread: Is it the time for Nintendo to start to create a true 3D fighting game for us?

Nintendo make a 3D fighter? Why exactly?

Also, a lot of people seem to like the modern traditional fighting games, so I think many people would disagree with you on all those franchises "sucking." I couldn't care less about nearly every fighting game besides SSB and Power Stone, but aren't there still traditional 2D fighting games like Guilty Gear still out there? And what does the modern FPS have to do with it? Would you want your flashy, combo-heavy fighting games in first-person? No way. Would any modern fighting game be structured like that?

Oh, and I don't quite understand your logic when you try to argue that Nintendo could make a great 3D fighter if, according to you, every other developer failed.

Oh, and why is the camera such a problem? If it were a free-movement fighting game, the camera would still end up fixed.

Also, Sonic in 3D can work; Sega just needs to invest a little money in Quality Assurance for their games. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 had pretty fun Sonic/Shadow levels.

Anyways, I'd rather have Capcom make Power Stone 3.

No.

It is the time for Nintendo to release Brawl.

thats how smash bros is you idiot, thats its style

why would you make mario realistic? why would you give halo an rpg element? why would we want to make a significant counter strike sotry mode?

why would we want to do this? games have to hold true to what they are, this is what makes SSB DIFFERENT from all the other fighters

... Guilty Gear is pretty much the king of 2D fighters nowadays. SFII doesn't really compare to it, in my opinion. Also, I believe SNK should be given more credit than "copy and paste" but yeah.

I can see what you're saying though, I kinda agree.

Just because a fighting game only works in 2D on a 3D map doesn't mean it sucks. I mean, that's all Paper Mario is!

i can sorta see what your saying when you break down how modern 3d fighters work. but i still disagree as games like SC are very deep and fun to play. SSB is still better but yea

No, Super Smash Bros. should not be 3D. By adding platforms for you to jump and move around on, it is already better then the other fighting on the market. Most of them you just move fowards, backwards, or in a circle, but in Smash you move forward, backwards, up, and down giving you more freedom.. Making it 3D would be an unnecessary and,in my opinion, unwanted feature in the game.

This thread is ridiculous.

Soul Caliber's fighting engine is made so it works perfectly with how it was thought to be played. It would be completely different if they changed it into something super. It just wouldn't be Soul Caliber.

And Guilty Gear is a 2D fighting game, and it's BRILLIANT. I would NEVER EVER work in 3D.

And Smash Bros.(maybe the most unique of them all) being changed to something futuristic and real would be absolutely absurd. All good fighting games have their own playstyle and that's what makes them so unique and lovable.

What I'm trying to say is just this:

Leave the fighting franchises that are actually great the way they are. If a new game comes out with a super realistic fighting engine, then kudos to them, but if something already works then there's no reason to completely fix it.

Remember Mortal Kombat switching to complete 3D? What happened then? It changed the whole franchise around so it was a completely different game, and overall it sucked.

A 3D fighting game like the one you are probably thinking of would have to be a platformer or something where you can free roam, except instead of the goal being to get to the shiny yellow Power Star, the goal would be to beat the crap out of another person.

It's a neat idea, but I don't know what it would take to make it work well enough for it to be amazing. Another thing too, for that type of fighting game, everyone would need their own screen, so split screen or online. An annoying set back. I dislike split screen. I guess the console of choice for this experiment would have to be the DS.

However, it's tough to say if anyone will ever try to do something bold like this, from what I hear, Power Stone for Dreamcast was kinda like the game you are explaining. My friends seemed to like it, but I've never played it. They described it as "Smash Bros. in 3D". I don't know if there was a camera that just panned around the 2D action.

I think that having the camera pan around 2D action isn't so bad though. The fact that your characters always pretty much face each other allows you to concentrate on the action at hand. Also, rolling around your opponent or sidestepping around their attack can easily be defined as a 3D maneuver, and Soul Caliber and Virtua Fighter do that well. And they play great, they're fun games!

Anyways, I like your rant, RoyalRook. I could just imagine a fired up talk show host just letting loose with that bombshell. Nicely doine.

Someone needs a spell checker! (OP)

If your referring to a game with Jade Empire dynamics (hoping you've played JE if your looking for 3d free-roam fighting) then you have to ask yourself something. How loose would the battle system be? Faster characters w/ projectiles could strafe around slower characters giving them damage, and never (and I mean NEVER) get hit at higher level's of play. Only the fastest characters would be picked (IMO) and the game would probably end up a lot like Halo. Now if you took away projectiles (or nerfed them to AVOID turning the game into Halo) then you would want to shrink the stage, so that slower characters would have a chance, and the game wouldn't always be a hit-and-run chase. Your typical stage would be somewhere between Final Destination and Homerun contest. And the characters would (I guess) try and gladiate other characters off the platform. This is saying it just wouldn't look right for you to kick a character from that 3d First person viewpoint and have it go flying away. So from what I've said, what you think your game would play like, because right now it's looking like epic fail.

Smash Bros? 3d?!?! WRONG! Dont fix it if it aint broken! By the way. 5 tekkens=pwnage. 4 SCs=pwnage. WHY? Because they started out 3d, and were great. What if those games became 2d? It would not be as good AT ALL! Dont change dimensions if a game is already good. For example: Mortal Kombat+3d=SUCK! So dont change SB. You're making 0 sense.

Blah blah blah
Please explain to me, or any of us, what Smash Brothers would gain from moving into the third dimension. The gameplay is amazingly tight and the relatively fixed camera angle serves it well.

Anybody remember One Must Fall: Battlegrounds...? :p

I need thinkers not sheep, it's a give and take discussion. Forget about power stone, if I want a better game I would rather play custom robo, but you don't see me get all so excited for a sequel for that mess. Hell, why don't we just get another pocket fighters if the "respectable" developer (loser) doesn't even take themselves seriously anymore? Last time I checked, Sonic Team (losers) WAS pretty rad development team, so if their 3D sonic game sucked and sucked hard times after times, then there is really not much to argue anymore about. psss SONIC (loser).

I can't possibly describe my anticipation for the release of Brawl. I was NOT talking about Brawl's direction, but rather a future Nintendo project which follows up Brawl's footstep. There can only be achieved so much in a 2D fighting scheme, without be too flashy, and go down the Capcom VS. series. We don't want to let SSB go down there right? I am just saying, we are already going to have Final Smashes, exactly how much long do you think we can be spared of some kind of super par like the SF series?

Btw, you fracking idiots...... that pageant reference is a low blow. But then again I guess all west coasters think a like.... like a dumb beach blond --- EAST SIDE, YOU MOTHERFRACKERS (kudos for those who get the joke).

I personally do not enjoy 3d fighters too much. They feel too much like a party game similar to Fusion Frezy and Mario Party. Although one would think a 3d fighter should add more depth and value to a game, I think it's the complete opposite. The current style smash brothers uses is 100% perfect. Nintendo shouldn't just dump 10 years of work just to move on to full 3D. They should continue to build on a style that has seen nothing but success. It's never boring and it's great fun for everyone.

I can see what you are trying to get at though. It's a good discussion. In my opinion, though, I'd have to say that Smash is too much fun right now to be messing around with it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
